If we had have spent less time with gambling investments, kissing our own buns, when not fighting about losses, and whatever, and more time doing some more cajoling the benefits of MFC working with MCC we might not be in the position either.

    Councils are responsible for upkeep on local roads and parks etc but State and Federal Govts. for highways and link roads.

    Please tell me what this has to do with AFL footy and MFC and our season ahead.

    Nothing to do with employment either for our younger players local  or other wise. 

    Let’s move on and get back to the footy as the major importance.

    No surprises there with the already huge initial costs blowing out. No-one saw that coming 😜

    Hardly an expert in this area but I find it hard to get my head around the AFL demanding that they build a stadium to a certain level in order to have a team but then impose big fines to the Tas government if not half completed by Oct 2027 and completed by the 2029 season. 

    With the Tassie government capping their commitment at $375 million they're going to have to sell quite a bit of land..

    The grab I saw from Albo's presser also indicated that the Federal commitment to the Tassie stadium was a fixed figure ($240 m) so (1) not a surprising comment and (2) throws a large issue back to the Tasmanian State government. Instructive for us as the Caulfield project develops - assuming there will be a sizeable (much smaller than Tassie of course) contribution from the Feds?

    The concept is akin to the jewel and its surrounds. Very popular for NFL grounds.

    Take an industrial site, build a stadium and then sell the surrounding land to investors who then build and lease franchised restaurants and sports bars etc to various operators.

    If done well you get a new entertainment complex. If done badly you have a group of uninviting windswept fast food joints attracting business maybe ten times per year.

    It's useful to remember that the original owners of Docklands in Melbourne lost a fortune.

    a bit different with macquarie point though, jim. it is essentially part of the cbd. but i don't know if there is much state owned land around it to sell/develop. the adjacent cenotaph area is probably locked up in a trust. might be difficult.

    I have been away (overseas) for two months, and to my desbelief they haven't fixed all the potholes along Dandenong Road. Should start with that 😡

    The only public announcement is that Mt Scopus has signed an option to buy the land. I would expect another announcement when the actual acquisition occurs. Details of the option details were not made public. The only other public statement from the school referred to signing enrolments at the new campus in 2030. Might that be the MFC's timeline for completion too? We'll know more perhaps we see our next Strategic Plan?

    Yes but it’s not MFC that are responsible. It’s State  or local Govt Write to them or your local member. Not our problem. .

    Kinda our problem, there's clearly not enough money to even repair roads. How can the State govt give us anything for the MFC home?

    As I have previously pointed out our Caulfield base is in conjunction with Community development in that area. That will ensure that funding is much more available so local communities can g as in use of much of the facilities.

    Aaron Morrison, CEO of Racing Victoria, has said that he believes Melbourne FC can co-exist in MRC facilities if it delivers strong outcomes for racing. 
     

    Broad answer but sounded as though we have his support.

      A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints.       What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
