I remember Essendon doing something similar to the childrens hospital appeal on the phone lines and raised significant $$

I presume that the build will be completed in phases?

Not sure about the phases yet mate. If I hear anything I’ll pass on here if / when I can.

Would suspect it’s likely, but that’s entirely my judgement.

very unlikely i think

we have a long term agreement to partner with casey

plus the advantage of having caulfield and casey is two elite facilities, not one

How is it an advantage? A proper elite training facility at Caulfield should negate the need for a second one.

Folks decrying the various negative reactions to this news certainly have a point. It is obviously a step in the right direction.

But even though I’ve seen our lack of base as the most glaring stain on our club’s metaphorical tuxedo, any potential jubilation is tempered by the fact that this is a solution to a tediously-long problem that should have never occurred in the first place.

Casey is our aligned VFL team  can’t just dumb them … they can both share both facilities

i notice the caulfield setup also has a dreaded northern  stand which no doubt would be a red flag to deeluded 😮

four teams with different programs able to experience different environments and tailor the training based upon different set-ups is the ideal situation for the years, decades, and hopefully centuries to come

i am very, very curious to see how the filth, the baggers, and the tigs manage everything in the future

the latter already tried to augment their oval availability and got blocked at the pass

Hooray! Finally some progress!

Our Home Base at Caulfield Racecourse will be an incredible achievement for the Melbourne Football Club. A Home Base is in many ways almost as important (if not more!) as winning Premierships!

This idea of a Home Base at Caulfield Racecourse was first suggested by former Demons President Stuart Spencer way back in 1990.

So only 34 years in the making...

The concept art is appealing. We definitely need a Melbourne Football Club history museum for our thirteen (and future) VFL/AFL Premiership Cups!

I am expecting we as Melbourne members will have to pay for a significant portion of it. They should of started the Home Base fund in 2021 after our Premiership. We would of all been very enthusiastic!

Either way, I expect a few fund raising events like the "Debt Demolition" back when Jimmy Stynes was Melbourne Demons President.

All I suggest, is that the outside of our Home Base buildings are red and dark blue similar to our jumper. A bit like the style they have at Punt Road for Richmond with the yellow and black.

And AFLW which I think you might have meant instead of VFL.

Sad sack Mel it’s half full not empty!  Some things take longer but are better for the delay.

not surprised by the amount of negativity

i am going to guess that we will wait for a year to have the business case approved before first sods turned 2026; building open in 2030

BTW when are you “guessing “ what ladder position the Dees  will finish in 2025 - 2030.

Oh and what will you have for breakfast in 2027.

I am guessing it’s all too much for you  and you will have brain overload and give up.

Good luck !

Great news. So far, so good.

I do wonder however if there is a plan B or C also being investigated (at least locations identified) in case the Caulfield project hits a fatal roadblock moving forward. If there are still other options being looked at as possibilities, what are they? I know Yarra Park ended up being a “no go”.

I've only been to Melbourne a handful of times but always found Fitzroy Gardens to be quite pleasant. And just a short stroll from the east end of Collins for our fans to attend training.

A MFC player will not grace it this decade. Think 2030+ better then than never.

Congrats OD You are the first Demonlander to record your 100th NEGATIVE comment. Record pace and why stop now Your 2030 prediction is so you.

Just remember both you and I might not be here if 2030 is the opening date.

I am far more positive than you and in time for 2028 or middle/ late 2027 might be a total completion date.

Makes the Bombers  20 year Finals drought look like a Century or at least like our Flag drought of 57 years.

Where is your private Feasibility study?

How much money has been given to Geelong from both Federal & State governments to build "Taxpayer Park". Not sure how much they provided but there was talk of around 300m. I'm sure someone will be able to access figures to verify.

I have just read that Albo has set aside $600m for the NRL to include a Papua NewGuinea team. Seems to me there's plenty of money going around from Canberra. Tap into it Dee's.

I’m not sure if finally developing a home base for the oldest professional football team in the country he governs is a stupid enough idea to qualify for Albo’s support

I conducted it last time I was in the gardens and concluded the guy walking his pet sheep there could offer free rides to keep the kiddies entertained.

Yes. They should have.

It was a stupid business decision, cost us millions and pokies are still rampant. The pokies didn't disappear, the dollars just went elsewhere. Meanwhile AFL and clubs happy to cosy up to gambling companies.

I hate the pokies but while they exist I'd rather the money go to the MFC than to Woolworths and Coles.

I have to agree.  We got conned into virtue signalling all the whiles the AFL say one thing and do another.

Anyway...we are where we are and with any luck that will one day be Caulfield.

A new beginning.  And in many ways I do see it as just that....a wonderful opportunity for a real re-set.

Hawthorn can have their Tip

Just because he has different opinions and ideas to the current board people, does not mean he is anything other than a committed Demon supporter.

to say otherwise, is like reading Sky news to get a negative view of Donald.

, I'm sure it can't he helped though and the Caulfield asset gain will outstrip holding the Bentleigh Club.

It needs to be kept in mind.  That this is Crown Land. It’s leased.  We will not own it, will perhaps own the building.  We can take it with us when we leave.

Not sure about asset gain.

Yes at Caufield races surrounded by problem gamblers who fund the joint

Generally after the business case is developed the permit process begins. This could slow things down. Theoretically funding could be secured after the business case, just won't be 'shovel ready'.

For one reason or another , as it were, I'll put aside the funding issue...if there is one.

The idea of permits etc can be the quagmire. That said if G.E. is indeed onboard ( at least atm in their current guise ) this may not prove much of an impediment.  If they truly are happy to see this unfold then they'll  just stamp it and stand aside.

Back to money. I have a suspicion it's been hard  for the club to lock money/grants/commitment in as there's actually been no location to allocate to. Lots of iffy in the clouds stuff in the past. Here we have a location, heads of agreements, concepts and preliminary designs....I.e something specific.

I don't see $$$ as being any problem.

From a "build" perspective  much could be done simultaneously as two distinct parts/sites. 1) Admin and Training 2) Ovals/Pav .

Should be able to do 18mnths/2y wo to go once greenlit.

We're  not building docklands  here...  it's not that complicated.

Go Dees

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
