Training Ground?

I would really appreciate a PM of the article.

The gist is that they are looking to extend the size of Goschs and the state govt is looking to make a contribution to the project.

It doesn’t give much more detail than that.

it's basically a write-off from quotes that pert has given to media - particularly vis-à-vis training at full-sized casey ground has been an advantage - with a bit of added info the budgeted funding from state gov will contribute to a feasibility study that has been proposed to extend the size of gosch's to a full-size afl equivalent oval

noting revelatory about it

This is the crux of it:

"It is understood the Demons want to increase the length and width of the oval at Gosch’s Paddock.
And in a positive development the Victorian Government announced in its 2021/2022 state budget that funding could be made available to the Demons for the training ground upgrade.
“Funding is provided and held in central contingency for a range of AFL/AFLW and VFL infrastructure and community projects including Gosch’s Paddock upgrade,” it said.
But the funding is dependent on the scope and cost of the project which the Demons are working though."

"An announcement could be made in the coming months about a feasibility study into a facelift of the AAMI Park facility which could help give the Demons more room."

Interesting timing if you're a conspiracy theorist... ;)

I hope we get a public toilet at least for that money

Sounds about right for a government contract!!!

So nothing concrete or new, and exactly what was said at the last AGM.

Possibly depends on how it's been worded there though.

My interpretation of this article is that it's saying the results of the feasibility study will be known, rather than the fact that there is a feasibility study underway (which is what was said at the AGM from memory).

I'm pretty slow mate @Lord Nev, what do you mean by that?

There were rumours that the current government weren't keen to work with Bartlett. No progress made while he was there. Roffey (who has good relationships with key decision makers) comes in and not long after it seems there may be genuine progress from a government support perspective.

It was smuggled out on microfilm in the bottom of an almond latte takeaway.

its in the spreadsheet and it is the same source who provided the info for my Golly Gosh posting from some months back.

Mind you, with government money you haven't got it until its spent.

This seems like a pretty half-arsed result to me, if you'd even call it a result

I don't think so.

There's quite a bit of room at Gosch's - an imaginative group of like-minded individuals could really make it work.

The locale is perfect and the precinct is ripe for an upgrade.

I did a bit of basic measuring on a map and if the Rebels move out to Melton and only one rectangular field is required they could switch that to where the Gosch's oval is now and at a certain angle could put in an MCG sized oval where the rectangular fields are now. This fits in with someone I know saying they saw a group of MFC people with some MOPA and possibly Govt people walking somewhere around those rectangular fields with something that looked like plans. This is directly adjacent to where I think the most likely place is for a facilities building over the existing car park at AAMI Park facing Goschs. So those facilities would look directly over the MCG sized oval. Too good to refuse.

To be fair that sighting might mean nothing. But then again it might mean something.

Glad to see that there has been a tiny bit more progress on this front about the Melbourne Football Club's Home Training Base.

Besides the men's team breaking our Premiership drought the number one priority of the Melbourne Football Club Board needs to be getting this Home Base done!

I am also not against the concept of a 3rd elite training base, for AFL, AFLW, VFL, VFLW and NGA as well as a member's social club for the Melbourne Football Club at Caulfield Racecourse. This would also be ideal right in the middle of the Demon's traditional heartland. Nevertheless, let's worry about getting something done within the shadows of the MCG first and foremost.

I suspect basic economics makes a 3rd training base unviable. The ongoing costs of all these facilities have to be paid for somehow. If a 3rd training base can be made self-sufficient, then I'm all for it. I just don't see it happening.

Trouble is that you have to move Storm as well as Rebels, they both use the same field at the moment.  Or move Victory and use the the soccer fields  area.  Or get approval to cut down some trees and expand the current Gosch's field.

OK. I didn't realise there were separate soccer and rugby fields there. My theory would have worked if the soccer team was leaving and you just had the two rugby teams who could both play on the one field which could be put at the existing Goschs paddock. I guess they're not going to put different sports lines on the one training field like we all grew up dealing with. Red lines for soccer, white for rugby or whatever. That would solve it.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
