It's funny you say this, I remember Max Gawn being described in a similar way and when he did put the hard yards in to become who he is today he certainly did bring others along for the ride. I think Petracca will always be a bit of a big kid in being energetic and a bit of a lampoon at times, but if he puts the right attitude in at the right times then I think he will reach some of the hights we all hoped for him (and will hopefully bring a few others up as well).

I noted that in his interview he mentioned two trips, one with Salem and one with Clarry. Two guys that you would argue are big futures for our club and it sounds like they didn't just sat back knocking down beers.

The most pleasing thing out of the Trac interview is to hear we nearly have 2 squads out there participating in drills.

Our injury toll of last year has been discussed at length and the effect it had on our season but to hear Trac say some of our match sims were 10 v 10 ( he’s probably not even exaggerating) makes you realise just how bad it was at times.  Some say poor management, some just bad luck, either way not much can be done on the track with numbers like that.

Stay fit boys and hopefully with a near full list we can get a few early wins to hit the ground running then who knows, we just might get on a roll in 2020.

I'm hoping for the same outcome but in a different way. I hope Viney voluntarily and willingly gives up the co-captaincy. It may be hard for him mentally if it is stripped from him. But if he chooses to give it up, either because he wants to concentrate on his own game or because he sincerely believes in a single captaincy model and thinks that should be someone other than him, he should be of a better mind to continue to do what we want him to do.

The club as a whole needs to lift their game in terms of engagement with fans on social media. They never answer supporters questions but are happy to like posts praising their video "documentaries".

He was terrific last year. As he noted he had surgery in the preseason and so never got fully fit. Which made it hard for him to stay in games for 120 minutes.

But he was super consistent accross the season and our best forward. His season was massively underrated. Was ok the previous year too.

Last year he started to show some maturing,  after much needling from outside, about his attitudes/approach,  over the whole preseason.  He finally started to work harder around Rnd 8ish.

He was under the pump off field, and he should have been.

Just a Roosy put it on him, when he played basketball breaking his ACL;  before the start of his time with our team.

 

He is responding to the chatter of his efforts and so he should have.

He's been a talented plodder to this point in his career.   And he much needed a push.  So far so good.    All be it without a ball being bounced by the men in white/green/blue.

What a load of rubbish...

He did his ACL at training, nothing to do with basketball.

He's not responding to chatter, he was not a plodder...

He had a good year last year and we expect he will build on it this year.

He's a kid now man who has not been happy with his own game to date, he reckons he can play better footy and he's taken the initiative to make it happen.

I don't know where you're getting all this responding to chatter, much needed push.

He's a proud kid, now man and he wants to do better.

These are solid numbers. Remarkably consistent. An average of nearly 20 disposals a game is impressive for a player who has mainly played forward. Has been resilient and played though injury. these are nnot the numbers of a plodder

This is his 2019 stats compared to DeGoey, a player he is often compared to. Now i'm not suggesting he is as good (yet) but the numbers are remarkably similar, as evidenced in the Supercocah and AFL Fantsy scores and values. Of particular interest are the score involvements, tackles inside 50, metres gained, one percenters, contested possessions and stoppage clearances (note his career averages are actually better than DeGoeys in almost all categories, with a notable exception being goals, 0.9 to 1.3).

DeGoey is much more damaging,  regarding lifting his team, and creating wins.

Look obviously we are not going to agree on this.

But i reckon you are being super harsh in regard to his work rate and the implication he has not shown enough hunger.

He overcame an ACL at the start of his career and this year is his first preseason that has not been interrupted in some way. And despite this has barely missed a game since his debut.

This year is really the first time he can get really fit and he seems to have grasped that opportunity. Id on't see any lack of hunger, this year or in previous years.

Did you look at the 2019 comparison to DeGoey?

I wonder if the club got caught up in the facebook pivot to video lie. 

For those not familiar the numbers on facebook videos were inflated, causing many media organisations to focus on video coverage instead of text only to later find out the numbers were rubbish.

I'd rather watch an interview than read the quotes, and the video footage is better than any description of training but I do miss the job the diary did of providing some behind the scenes stories about the players and coaches. Hopefully we get some of that in the documentary.

I did say that trac wasn't as good yet. As you say degoey is more of a match winner.

But whilst stats of course can be driving they are almost identical in bb every category. 

And i think sometimes with a player like degoey if you don't see every game, like we do with trac  it can be easy to overrate their week to week performance.

De Goey is one of the games most dangerous forwards, he has height, pace and dual sided skills around goal that make him incredibly hard to stop. The goal kicking record is there to see.

Petracca battled really well in an awful forward line, often playing closer to goal than ideal and getting awful delivery. As a forward he’s at his best higher up the ground where he can turn a 50/50 contest in to a clear scoring chance. He’s not nearly as dangerous one on one. So don’t knock him for last year but don’t compare him with JDG either. Both are wrong.

The way the game is played half forward is a bit of a devalued position, it’s a lot of unrewarded running. Tracc can be a B+ or A- forward, but to be a true A grader he needs to bring his ball winning, tackle breaking and spearing kicks to the midfield.
