I'll be happy if he plays a preseason game footy - he will need a hit out and he is critical part of our back 6 (the most most critical?) so needs some match team with Omac and co to build synergy and 'connection'.

I'll be very unhappy if in that game he shirt fronts a roos players and gets suspended

Unfortunately he's just as likely to finish out the game with a bag of ice glad wrapped to his hammy.

That suspension he got last year was an absolute joke.  It was worth a small fine, at best.

Be that as it may (pardon the pun) it was unnecessary and stupid to even risk a suspension. Save the tough guys stuff for games played for premiership points

True.  I won't argue that.  But it was still a silly decision on the tribunal's part.

He had lots of form Wiseblood.

I doubt he is the sharpest tool in the shed.

You might be right rjay.  But that's life.  I don't expect the club to always tell the 'whole' truth.

Maybe they believed it wasn't too bad and it's taking a little longer?  That happens from time to time.

Either way, May has done the bulk of the pre-season and should therefore be in pretty good nick regardless.  Here's hoping he can be right for Round 1.

I spoke to May at training (queue Dazzle telling me I'm a fanboy) and had quite a chat.  It was a cyst that was giving him a little trouble, nothing major.  My understanding is it got infected and they are dealing with that.  I can't imagine taking a cyst out would cause any long term damage.  But he's hardly done "the bulk of the preseason".  He did the block before Christmas and has done the week in Queensland but other than that he's not been in training.  It's a shame because he's lacked the chance to work with the other backs in match sims.

I'm going with Chell on this.  I reckon he'll play the second match and will play game one.  Here's hoping anyway.

Maybe (pardon another pun) but given the elbows that Ablett was throwing around and getting away with during the season proper I think we can all agree that the tribunal is inconsistent and would appear biased towards certain players.

Im not so sure about this.

May was standing still, the Berry ran straight towards him, and May took 1-2 small steps and braced. Berry didn't look where he was running or prepare for contact, which was ridiculous because he handballed because he knew May was there and then kept running to potentially recieve the 1-2 handball. Did he expect May to let him walk past? He has to be responsible for being aware of players within his immediate area.

If May didn't bump, the Brisbane player would have ran into him. His only other option was to step out of the way,  which is ridiculous.

Here are multiple angles:

Have you meet him OD or is this just another cheap shot which is something for which you certainly have "form".

Cheers Bob.  My 'bulk of the pre-season' comment was based on the fact that, compared to last season, he had seemingly done everything asked of him up until the injury, which I feel would still leave him in a good spot leading up to the season.  You guys would know more than me on that, but compared the pre-season he had last year, he looks to be in a better position to be ready for the year ahead.

He looks in great shape and his "match sim" form was terrific before Christmas.  He also did a lot of running in rehab prior to Queensland so here's hoping.

Very promising, and terrific news if your source is on the money. Though I’ll be happier if they just hold him off till the actual footy starts.

“We expect Angus Brayshaw to be available next week following his elbow injury and both Steven May and Max Gawn are to be considered for our second Marsh Series game against Hawthorn in two weeks.”

Well your info is certainly seemingly more credible than mach5’s. Is this the same source that told you months in advance that Harley was keen to play for us?

Leon can speak for himself of course, but just from the perspective of someone impartial; I've found him to be a very very credible poster who puts up spot on information.

Petty (groin?), possibly Wagner the only ones who might be longer-term concerns?

The injury issues we have are all down to one thing and one thing only - training.

Blind Freddy can see what the problem is here - if they didn't train they wouldn't get injured, so stop all the training sessions.

Are you serious 64?

In sport athletes have to train and prepare!

What  else Do you want Pete season to be?

sitting around the centre circle playing poker or maybe two up?

Mach 5 is like Poita and a couple of others on this site.

They criticise most Club decisions And are negative By and large.

Only offerings are over the top generalisations, and comments not backed up via any source or detail.

Basically all fake news and unsubstantiated opinion!!!

They are MFCSS paid members, they are the sort who are always negative, and might not be demon fans.

so if the recoveries for Gus, May and Gawn come to fruition, we could have zero best 22 players injured by round 1.  and the majority of the squad having done a good preseason.

oh my.  No excuse Demons

Anyone got an idea about the need for coyness?

“The Demons were coy pre-game about Fritsch's late withdrawal, saying he was out with an illness, but Goodwin set the record straight.
"He (Fritsch) had a little infection in his knee, he's been on the antibiotics so if that's a sickness then that's a sickness," he said.

It just seems dumb. If he has a knee infection why wouldn’t you say he has a knee infection? Just seems pointless

I've added Jones to the list with his Shin Corkie, Bayley Fritsch with his Knee Infection and Joel Smith goes back on the list after coming off it when named in the team but then not playing even though a spot opened up with Fritsch's omission. Wagner and Jordon who played the day before were suited up on the bench as emergencies so Smith goes back on the list until he is available to play.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
