Jobe Watson will get Brownlow Back.

Featured Replies

IMO, with the new material coming forward about ASADA not noting the drug as banned, until 4 months after the Bombers stopped using it, even though it was a WADA banned drug for years, the AFL will find a way to reinstate the Brownlow win of Jobe Watson.  This is the loophole needed to reverse the stripping of his win.

The other 2 players who won the Brownlow in a tie as runners up, IMO, will also be allowed to keep theirs.

The Free the Essendon 34 will be loving it

Pity the spin will hide the real story:

“Thymosin Beta 4 was included on the 2010 prohibited list by Wada .... Thymosin Beta 4 has never been approved for human use. Whether a substance was on Asada’s former Check Your Substances tool has no bearing on its status as a prohibited substance on Wada’s prohibited list.

“It is impossible to list every substance that may be used for performance enhancement in such a tool, particularly those not approved for use by humans.”

Will the ceremony include a stripping of the Brownlow off Cotchin?

Is that the Brownlow he lost?

Yes.

Wasn't it deemed an illegal substance purely because it wasn't an approved substance?

No.

Interesting that none of the highly paid lawyers involved for years over the course of this saga managed to miss this somehow.

I'd say it's a classic distraction from the Bombers, because they aren't going to get what the fans want for a broken Daniher.

Has Robbo's paw prints all over it.

IMO the bans penalty, even though served, will not be lifted. As I recall it was like the Tanking penalty for not tanking, it was for bringing the game into disrepute. Given the club still can't tell the players what they were injected with, that will stand.

It's all a beat up by vexed Essendon supporting journos. It was known at the time TB-4 was banned, under the "not approved for human use" clause. If they bothered to inquire, as they are required to by the WADA code they're signed up to, they would have been told "it's banned for use by athletes." It was banned then, banned while EFC used it, banned still to this day. There is nothing new in this except that ASADA eventually got around to listing the drug explicitly by name rather than category.

It's like saying murder wasn't listed as a crime on the Vic Police website until the day before they went to arrest me for that murder I did a few years back. I must be innocent then!

You'd have to wonder what Essendon was self-reporting for if there was no problem with the drug.

You sure look innocent Mazer.

Looks like I'll have to silence you too. (wait while I check the police website to see which crimes are not listed today)

Misleading thread title - makes it sound like it's fact rather than opinion.

Unfortunately yes, but I didn’t want to call a thread IMO Jobe Watson will get Brownlow back.

In my defence though that is how the first line of the thread started, IMO.

Exactly - I seem to recall reading at the time it was a substance NOT approved for human use, and as such it was NOT legal for players to imbibe / ingest / inject.

Yeah, nah.

Nothing has changed.

Hi

I havent tested it on humans but it should be sweet

Its definitely legal, wada havent listed it as illegal yet

This is not factually correct.

It was listed, it just wasn't on their website. It's still up to the club and/or players to contact them before injecting themselves.

You've been sucked in by the headlines.

That's basically the story of TB-4. Steroid-like effects, and no test (at that time) to see if someone's taken it. Perfect! Genius Dank thought if WADA haven't listed it by name, we're sweet. And ever since, all the nuffie supporters have run around saying "but no-one tested positive".

I haven't been sucked in at all. Read my OP.

I am saying this is a way for the AFL to give Jobe back his Brownlow without losing face.

I am not going through the whole saga again.

What makes you think Watson gave the medal back....last time I heard he "couldn't locate it".

It is the record, not the little medallion that is important.

Anyone can find a lost medal in the street, it doesn't mean they were awarded it.
