?North Melbourne? obviously think we are ?

They’re not wrong ?

Very happy. 8 will turn into 9 & 9 will get us Weightman. Take it to the bank.

I think we've overpaid big time. Looking at the draft value index this trade only evens out if our first round pick is pick #34 next year, which is obviously impossible. Now the draft value index doesn't tell you anything about the individuals available or the overall draft quality, but it just feels like a desperation move. Take out the pick 50 and I'd feel like the trade is fairer.

I don't think the points matter in this one because of the compromised draft next year. Let's say Melbourne finish 7th, that's looking like being end-of-first under normal circumstances, and if the Club wasn't planning on using 50 this year, the swap is 26 and approx. 16/17/18 for 8 in a non-compromised draft.
I like it a lot!

In another thread, 'inanunda' stated that it was time for us to 'grow a pair'.  We just grew 'em!

Only taking 2 picks in this draft.

We have to use at least 3 don't we?

Splitting the pick I'm guessing.

I think it means we wanted to split 3 into say 5 and 8 e.t.c

dvi is meaningless next year as the draft is completely compromised

not only are something like 15 of the current expected top 30-35 (depending on whose assessment you believe) set to be father-son and academy selections, but gc17 have freebies galore in pick 11, and darwin / academy access

Pick 50 this year is neither here nor there but it's a shame to lose the second round pick

No reason we would do this unless we had someone in mind for pick 8, or we are about to split pick 3.... this week just got interesting again.

God I hope we get Papley with pick 8.

Agree. Think this will force GWS to split now as we are in a better position to bid on Green as if they match then gives us more options at 8

I am more excited now than at any time during the season ....how sad is that!!

were keen to split pick 3 but it sounds like we were only willing to do it for a really good deal.

Not sure about our capacity to target a star in terms of cap room

I still think we might split it with the Giants for pick 6 and a player.

if we could go to the draft with 6 and 8 and get say Finlayson, Caldwell, Daniels to go with it

Jon Ralph just making it up as he goes.

Not really.

I read that as:

- We are willing to part with pick 3, now that we have pick 8.

Hence, traded in a pick to give us both currency at trade table AND still have a top 10 pick.

Surely we're not going to the draft with both picks?

Now is the time to bite the bullet.

Pick 3 + player for Cameron. GWS nabs Greene. Win win.

I immediately assumed the same as Ralph. Perhaps he's joined the dots with the Gun Forward thread.

Hi Jon ?

What!

You weren’t bouncing off the ceiling when we beat GC by a point?

I was bouncing off the ceiling but not from excitement.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
