Just watch the AFL squirm and spin their way out of this. They are not serious about drugs.

The AFL hate the WADA regime. They would much prefer to be like the major codes in USA and enforce their own policy.

First offence for PED in the NFL is a four match suspension.

Ahhh.....the good old days....

Isn't the reason that both NFL and Baseball didn't have a strong stance on doping in the past and the players stood up to being a part of WADA and the leagues have made these concessions.

This boy will be missing for 2 years at least, just silly

Well the NFL cannot function without artificial enhancement. Those freaks that play American team sports are not regular  humans.

Essendon demanding a re-match of last weeks game.

Can we demand the whole year be re-played?

We might struggle, Petracca’s already put on 10kg and Melksham is in Spain running from bulls.

Does this mean that technically we should have been in the GF last year? I thought the Eagles looked to be playing like a side on performance enhancers....

Perhaps we should share the flag with Collingwood? Well done lads, we've got number 13.

12.5 if we have to share it.

I'm annoyed that this has come out in the 24 hours leading up to their game tonight.  Would much prefer it to have happened tomorrow morning after the put Geelong out in straight sets.  Then we could've had Essendon AND Geelong fans going in to meltdown.

And for the posters questioning how this could happen - it's not the urine collecting officer's role to tell them not to tamper.  They just observe then report back to ASADA that the sample was tampered with.  Seems pretty straightforward to me, and makes that part of the process a lot more transparent.

This puts a stain on the impeccable record of a proud club. How could he have put the West Coast through this drama.

Silly boy !!

No 'tip-off' from HQ for starters.

Are you suggesting that the AFL tipped-off ASADA about needing to do the collection on a Tuesday?

Think you are misunderstanding what I wrote - what other people are questioning is how it (the tampering) could've happened given it was in front of a collector.

He was apparently caught red handed pouring the substitute liquid into the collection container, surprised he was allowed to play in last weeks final.

He’s come out today and apologised, admitting defeat. Silly Willy, such an awful waste.

Ethan, I think him playing last week was more about the processes that ASADA have in place.  From what I understand (which is limited), I think when it was flagged by the collection officer, ASADA are then required to fast-track the case.

We're only talking a couple of weeks.  Given how long the Essendon saga went on for, for ASADA to notify the AFL 23 days after the event, I think is quite good (remembering that ASADA covers more than just Willie weeing in a bottle).

This article explains is somewhat...

From that article:

"The A-sample didn’t return any evidence of a banned substance in Rioli’s system, but the finding was that there was evidence of urine substitution, which is known as a “prohibited method”

If it wasn't a complete substitution this makes it even stranger.

I wonder what he was trying to hide, it wasn’t game day so they don’t test for cocaine and weed.

Well Willie clearly wasn’t trying to hide his willy in the hole he was supposed to.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
