Lachie Whitfield

Given the recent article suggesting GWS want in on our pick, this could be the perfect opportunity to go after this guy. He's a free agent next year and if he leaves and the Giant finish a similar position, they may lose him for a pick in this teens.

I'd be trying for this year's first rounder and next years for Whitfield. I know there is some risk we finish low next year, but there's also the potential we get back into the top 8 with a better run of injuries and an easier draw.

Apparently the Hawks will be applying to the AFL to be allowed to trade their first this year, which they are apparently going to be approved. You just have to show the AFL you know what you are doing with this and they have discretion.

If we add this guy onto the wing, along with Langdon and the ball winners of Oliver, Viney, Brayshaw and Harmes in the middle I think we become a premiership favourite again.

Here's hoping we ask the question and make a serious play.

They would need to add next years 1st pick as well but a massive yes if gettable.

i think he is the best out of the lot

Good call mate. Add the run of Langdon (don't rate his disposal, hopefully he can improve) and Whitfield, and we're a vastly different side. If we can get out forwardline right with some natural crumbing smalls and work on our stoppage set ups, with a healthy Lever and May playing back there, we should be making finals.

I wonder if there's a way of bundling #3 to GWS for Whitfield and a first rounder that would be good enough to get us Ben King. Probably blue sky thinking here. Maybe we have to involve our 2020 first rounder as well.

Drooling at the thought of this.  Love this guy pure class.  Split our first pick.  Give GWS our then first pick and next year's first pick. Then trade our other first round pick after split to a top of the ladder club for their first round pick next year.   The depth after picks one and two in this year's draft not good.

If he was available and expressed any interest in coming to us, then we would be stupid not to do it.  Even if he hadn't expressed interest in us just yet, I'd be asking the question.

However, would the Giants want Pick 2 THAT badly?  Probably not.  You would hope the club tests the waters a little, but you would think the logical outcome would be their two picks plus a player of some value to get it done.

Drafting wisely, and adding someone like Hately to go with Langdon, would be a good start to the off season.

"Absolutely not," Scully said when asked whether the thought of getting rich from GWS's entry into the AFL had entered his head.

"There's been no approach (from GWS), absolutely not.

"I've got absolutely nothing to hide, and I thought I should come out and say something.

"I love the club, I love my team-mates and I want to be part of the future going ahead at the Melbourne footy club.

"I'd love to end my career a one-club player, and I anticipate that will be the case."

Not sure about you but I don’t want anyone with Scullys morals around at the Dees.

While you’re at it, you might as well ask Clarkson & Simpson if they’d like to step down from their head coaching positions to be a mentor to Goodwin. I wonder what other silly suggestions you can come up with?

To be fair, we are sensational at having a thread on every and any player that is even a 1% chance of leaving their club, or even a 0% chance of coming to us.

Having said that, Whitfield is worth at least a thread this year with the potential trade ideas around pick 2 and the fact he is out of contract next year.  He hasn't really given any indication he might sign yet so I guess it's worth the discussion.

Will he come over?  Highly unlikely, but we can dream after all.

Concept of tongue in cheek must be unknown to you it seems...and nice attempt at trying to cherry pick something from weeks ago for the sole purpose of trying to insult a fellow supporter, plenty of time on your hands it seems. Nice work.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
