Clearly it's me stating I'm oblivious of this year's draft, but on the surface, i.e. some video footage, I can see the attraction to this particular player.

To extrapolate my comments as some sort of slight on fellow Demonlanders shows a "special" type of person.

I liked your initial post for a reason if you're in any doubt.

No doubt, I was just being a smart [censored].

so 72 hours until the pick trading deadline. you'd expect we should do something by then?

does anyone know when the live trading begins on draft day?  or is it just at the first pick?

I think any trading we do will likely be done on draft day.

Not too sure on time it starts, I assume there's an agreed time the draft begins.

I think the club will take Kickett before Weightman and it then depends on who's left for the next pick and what that pick is.

Doubt Robertson or Stephens will be there, but they will be in contention, if they are.

Giants wouldn't do this without confidence we won't bid on Green IMO i suspect they'll be grabbing Luke Jackson at pick 4 if we go for Hayden Young.

Interesting. GWS must know we won't be bidding on Green. Otherwise we have the potential to ruin their draft night and burn their future pick for no gain.

Edit: Axis is right if Jackson is their preferred target. They've played it pretty well. Still don't want them to get both players though. I suspect we'll pick Jackson and they'll take either one of Young/Flanders/ash and Green.

It's good play from GWS if they want Jackson. Basically they get us to choose between Jackson and Green .... if we bid on Green then they get their preferred player in Jackson. If we take Jackson then GWS get Green and an extra pick.

It does mean that Green is well and truly in play for us if we want him, because GWS won't match.

But why would we not? What do we get out of it?

Is it a standoff? We play their bluff, bid on Green, they don't match and take Jackson at 4?

In related news...

A source close to the situation indicated the Crows were on the verge of trading pick four to GWS, who will give up pick six along with a future first-round pick ahead of the pre-draft pick-trading deadline on Friday.

Crows set to trade pick No.4 to GWS

Officially a done deal.

We will get the player we want most likely even if it is Green. If GWS matched our pick on Green they would lose the extra top  4 player and would effectively have traded for nothing. This way they get who they want after our pick and then get Green later.

One thing to factor in is that Green has a younger brother who apparently is also pretty good and if we got Green I wonder if the brother could be switched into our Academy zone? Anyone have the answer on that?

Wonder how stuff like this gets ticked off from the AFL, assuming Green does get bid on by Sydney at pick 5, with the discount they need 1,502 points. However, they only have pick 40, 59 & 60, which add up to 733 points. So they will be 769 points in deficit but we know that can carry forward into the next season, but they've traded away their first. If they finish higher than 12th then they'll loss their 2nd round pick (although they do currently have 2 3rds for next year - but these will be pushed back). I suppose it might create a fire sale situation where they have to actively trade a number of players to get extra picks/points next season.

The younger Green wouldn't qualify for us, unless he has parents who weren't born here. We don't have the same rules as the northern clubs with our academy.

Would GWS really pass up on Green?

Green is rated a  definite top 3 if not Pick 1.

It wouldn’t surprise me if GC take Rowell and Green and pass on Anderson.

You're all over it; GWS win either way.

Best result for them is if we don't bid, but I think they're comfortable with letting us have Green as it would cost them so much having pick 4.

I think we're set on Jackson personally, but would be comfortable with Green.

GWS win because of the generous academy, but it won't really impact us too much. We'll either get Green or Jackson (if he is the choice at pick 3), while GWS would have to weigh up matching Green with taking Jackons and Young (1 player vs 2). It will reduce down who might be there at pick 8, but again that might not have made any difference to us at all, or might encourage the splitting of pick 8.

Only way I think GWS trading up to 4 is that they are super confident they can split it into 2 top 20 picks if we bid on Green. Which makes sense/ Green was def going to be bid on before 6 and then they would of looked to split it anyways. It’s a gamble by them that we won’t bid on Green, but they can prob get 2 better picks in top 20 for 4 than they would have for 6.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
