If we don't split the pick with gws could we trade a future first and our second rounder for pick 9 (gws has Essendon pick). Gws Do it so they don't have to use a high pick on matching a green bid and we do it to get 2 quality young guns on the list this year. We are gambling on our self to finish higher next year. Just thinking outside the box

I honestly think that a trade involving Pick 3 will happen on the last day. I say this because there are several teams that want our pick for various different reasons. I imagine we'll be negotiating with most clubs to get the best outcome possible. We should win this trade because of the high amount of interest involved. GWS want it, West Coast may need it, Freo may like it, and so could Essendon.

Edit: Personally, I think Essendon would rather take Picks 5 and 9 to the draft. If they get them.

Essendon could end up with 5 and 9, for Daniher (9 in from Papley to Carlton).  That would be the perfect pair to split the pick on.

Your forgetting the dedoro factor

I’m surprised that something that smells so much like A rs e hole (and starts with ‘D’) got through the filters here...but I know what you mean!  He certainly has an overblown sense of worth....

Seems the most enticing for us if that eventuated. We would have to add to that deal though, maybe pick 22 if we can use our future second for Langdon. Bombers would be asking for our pick 3 and future first instead I'd imagine, but even then I'm not convinced the would prefer that to 5 and 9.

Why would Essendon want pick 3 any more than we do?

Exactly. I can't see a 'split' scenario that would be likely as it currently stands. Will be interesting to see how this unfolds though.

We have secret info that picks 3-15 is an even talentpool and no other club knows it?‍♂️

In the end, GWS will have Pick 3.

I’m hoping we trade it to GC for Ben King and then GC on trade to GWS...

Terry got Jack Riewoldt after splitting a pick.

On the other hand we missed out on Kelly.

Quoted from my posted in another thread.

"GWS finishing higher than expected makes the pick split a bad option. Mahoney said on radio today that Pick 3 is on the table if we received an offer of two top 10 picks. If that's what we're demanding, 11 and 18 won't cut it. If we can get one or two top 10 picks it'd be worth it though. Would love to land say Flanders and a Stephens or Weightmann.

Regardless, I'm happy we're going to be drafting in the first round again this year. It's been too long and has contributed to our massive drop off."

I can't see that article linked either, but I'm assuming it has excerpt from Mahoneys interview this morning where he stated two top 10 picks would be value for splitting pick 3.

I want Ash and Stephens. Getting involved in Daniher talks and securing 5 and 9 would land us both of them. Not sure how we get it done, we’d have to sacrifice several other picks going out as well

He had 2 chances to grab Buddy and missed them both

Split it please. There's daylight between the top2 and the next bunch, we got [censored] over massively. Though knowing Mahoney he'll split it into two 3rd rounders or someshit.

Yeah, you know him well, mate. :P

Josh Mahoney “ we want two picks in top 10”

JOSH’s next weeks deal - 3 for 12 & 18.

We cave every time...

I don’t understand the dislike for Mahoney. He worked the loophole which landed us Clarrie. For that I am eternally grateful

What loophole was that? I know we picked the Swans Academy player (Mills?) and the Swans matched the offer so we then picked Clarrie. I don’t class that as a loophole though.

Suns want Billy Stretch? Pick 3 + Stretch for Pick 2. Gets Billy where he wants to go, They get mature talent and for only a one pick downgrade. Make it happen Dees. Go [censored] yourselves AFL.

dude that's the most ridiculous post I think I've ever read on demonland.  and that's saying something.

stretch has basically no currency yet you think he is worthy of a 1 pick upgrade in the top 5. lol. Yes, he is worth an upgrade. An upgrade from 75 to 74 perhaps.  geez, I hate when school holidays are on.

explain to me why essendon would do that?  they lose a top 10 pick just to go from 5 to 3? crazy talk.

Crazy talk, indeed.  Would happen if they really wanted someone and didnt think their pick (which will probably slide at least one place) would get them.  Who knows?  No one else appears to have enough value to split the pick, these guys might just, and Dodoro is not known for rationality...

just a hunch, but i get the feeling the reason we want to split the pick, is  we are keen on weightman, more than anyone rated above him and i hope this is what happens, i also hope the club is keen on gould, if we get weightman and gould and it costs us pick 3 i say do it.

lets just say we end up if picks 9, 10, 22, 40

9. weightman

10. gould

22.  one of worral, tahney, day, or taylor

40. pickett

we take the best 2 small forwards, a skilled medium forward and a aggressive good kick back flanker

jetta may gould

salem lever jordon

langdon brayshaw petracca

worral mcdonald elliot

weightman weid fritz

gawn oliver harmes

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
