So summarising the above advantages Lions have over Demons:

  • Full club acilities (even if not great better than the make shift we have)
  • Better/more stable forward line
  • Stable and proven medical/fitness staff.   Ours are being overhauled and Burgess impact not yet known.
  • Stable and more experienced coaching panel.
  • Better odds that they play finals in 2020

Our 2018 and their 2019 success net out.

Our advantages:  Two blockbuster games at the G:  Anzac Eve and QB.  And staying in Melb might give us a tiny edge except we are next door to the Pies.

Not a betting person but not liking our chances.

If the Lions are playing well every game at the Den is a blockbuster.

What about less plane travel, to a bloke who has suffered possible back related hamstring injuries?

Good point but is it enough to swing it our way?  We have more long haul trips because of Alice and Darwin (and 2 to Perth in each of last two years).

Darwin gone.

On a side note, Lions brought in 4 players in last  couple of years who finished top 10 in B & F and 2 last year who won and finished 4th. Good recruiting.

Take it one step further. Which coach would you prefer to play under?

I’m not sure whether he toured our “world class” facilities and if the tour was guided by the charismatic catatonic Goodwin but I’ll bet my right nut that he was more impressed with Fagan and the direction Brisbane are headed.

Spot on to those suggesting that we can only land players with superior dollars or no other suitors. Take a look at the “big” names we’ve landed and how many others were in the race. Especially after our inflated offers were put out there.

Would Fagan have taken him on a ‘journey’ though? I bet Goody did.

Huh?! But isn’t Clarke in charge of everything at Hawks?!

When Clarko wants a player from another club the Hawks do the deal even if they are paying a high price ie O'Meara and Wingard.

This is probably the reason he’ll choose Brisbane over us. Which forward line would you like to play in?

Cameron, Christensen and probably Rayner as well.....why would Brisbane need Elliott?

They probably don’t need him but they certainly want him.

Plus he could be a forward mentor to those young players. I’m sure he was sold that line at the Lions.

If Elliot signs with Brisbane, it would be another indictment on Goodwin and co at the hands of Brisbane. Their progression and performance this year across the season showed up Goodwin and the club, and now we may lose a free agency race against a team that started 2018 at 0-8. I know we've really been no better than Brisbane over the past decade but 2019 has been an absolute dagger into our reputation and appeal to players, fans and media alike. Even Richmond was able to get Prestia and Caddy over the line after their pathetic 2016 season. We stand to get Langdon and overpay for a Frost replacement in Tomlinson, when the former probably would have been cheaper to keep.

I would say it's pretty much a certainty Praha.  Not an if anymore.  I doubt we were ever on his radar in a serious sense.  Might have helped bump his price up a tad.

I still maintain we were used as a pawn in their negotiations with Collingwood. Now that Collingwood don’t appear to be blinking they are looking at serious alternatives. I’m not sure we were ever a genuine chance but that could just be the MFCSS talking.

#ChickenChat: apologies if this has already been reported i got it 2 days a go and forgot to post it - Jamie Elliott about to back flip on Hawks and head to Brissy

I’m going to call BS on this. He’s clearly taking already well established facts and making out if he’s in the know.

Who wants last nights lottery numbers? I forgot to post them yesterday morning.

Also if you believe Hawthorn they never spoke with Elliott.

It was posted on here from memory that  Christensen is out of contract and might not be offered another one. If that’s the case I can see why they would chase Elliott.

Getting a bit loose on detail in your haste to outrage, or what?

Of course, none of us really know, but most reports say Frost wants $650k while Tomlinson deal is for $500k. And Tomlinson is a free agent, whilst Frost could generate a draft pick. Not that they would play in the same position anyway.

And "another indictment on Goodwin and co at the hands of Brisbane"??? That made me lol! We're you shaking a fist in the air as you wrote that?

If he decides after the best and fairest that he was staying at Collingwood then why would he fly up to Brisbane?

If he was coming to Melbourne then same again.

I don’t think he has made up his mind yet and is deciding This weekend between Melbourne and Brisbane.

I’d expect a decision/announcement on Monday unless another suitor enters the arena.

Which is why I stated earlier that in Mahoney's interview, he stated that if anything were to happen, it would happen in the next week. Mahoney's not stupid, he would have known about Brisbane's interest during the interview. He knew Elliott would be making up his mind this weekend. I think we're still very much a chance.

Much to get excited about next year with the ‘O’28 leading our forward line.

Our problem is not Oscar and he will not be our worst player next year. He is not a turnover merchant. Personally I think he will have an improved year. Love to see him put on 5kgs of muscle.

Elliott may well go to Brisbane but just because he toured there doesn't make it a done deal.

He'd be an idiot not to go up there on an all expenses paid trip to assess their offer compared with ours and catch up with his brother.

It could also start an auction between MFC and Brisbane which would benefit him.

It would’ve been ludicrous to think that, at the end of 2018, any free agent (already based at a Melbourne club) would choose Brisbane over us, if they were to make a move (assuming commensurate offers from the Lions and the Dees).

It shows just how bad 2019 was for us.

That said, I’ve heard that we’re still up to our eyeballs in this one. It’s not over. Not yet anyway.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
