Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Out currently having a coffee with some of the under 16's Murray Bushrangers development coaches to start planning for our up coming pre season.

Just got told that Demon recruiting officials are up in the North East Border and Golburn Valley region to interview a couple of bushies boys.

Lachlan Ash will most likely one of them and along side Ben Kelly and Cam Wild.

What are your thoughts on Ben Kelly as a prospect for us?

Ash would be a sensational pick up imho.  One of the best line breaker come ball users off HB along with Gould.   Anderson obviously the pick of the three but no chance for us.

Neither quite at the level of Young by foot over short / medium & long range and probably by hand either but still in their own rights very solid users.  Ashes read of the play and run would worry many opps even at this early stage i reckon.  A few years in the system and could be something very special.

Gould and Ash very courageous in the air also.

To me this suggest we might not be taking Young. I don't think we would take both Young and Ash.

He's a 200cm defender who came back as an overage and was told to work on his intercept marking and offensive attributes by AFL clubs as he is quite quick for his size, but wasn't using it as much as he should have out on the footy field.

He'd be a good prospect for us because he can also swing into the ruck if need be but also take the big talls like McKay or Lynch who are around that 202cm marking forward. Good prototype defender.

No not at all.

Since draft camp, Melbourne are having multiple interview with prospects like Young, Jackson, Ash and Robertson.

It's not like Ash is out of the ordinary. Club is just getting all their formation in check now and doing their due diligence with a few draft prospects.

Agree, it sounds more like a scenario where we take Jackson @ 3 and Ash @ 8.

Again, Melbourne are YET to make a decision at 3 and 8. Just doing what all clubs do around this time and just chase up more information and background checks.

You blokes are reading way too much into this.

I believe you that we may be reading way too much into this, but how can you personally be sure that we haven't made a decision at 3 or 8 already?

Because we are still 2 weeks away. Don't you think that is a bit extreme and silly to have  made your decision when the player you may want at 8 might not even be there.

I do know for a fact most clubs who are in the first round usually don't make their final decision until at least 48 hours until draft night.

I just don't think that, with 10 days till the draft, you can state that there is no chance that we have locked in who we want at 3. It is possible, that's all I'm saying.

It's a close decision and they will take all the time required to finalise it.

There's more than just pick three involved, there are other contingencies to consider.

If the decision is between Young and Jackson whats exactly the rush? A lot can still change in 10 days. The recruiting team along with Goodwin and Matthew Egan will sit down over these next few days and have a few meetings over this and do more extensive back ground checks on both boys.

They will also decide whether they do place the bid on Tom Green also? If they do then then that's Jackson and Young gone, and completely throws a spanner in the work in the 1st round, especially if GWS don't match the bid.

Trust me, club hasn't made their decision as of yet.

I think Ash's draft range is about 6-15 and given trading pick 3 is still not out of the question and trading pick 8 is a distinct possibility he's a good chance to be on our board at multiple stages.

I don't think follow up post exams interviews or further time with the coaches should change a recruiters decision on pick 3, Jason Taylor surely has a preference. Even a Charlie Curnow drink driving shouldn't change a pick now - if character was a concern they wouldn't be an option, if character wasn't a concern you'd pick them anyway. But the realities of a trade and a Tom Green bid mean there has to be contingencies even with the first live pick of the draft.

When it gets to pick 8 there's going to need to be about 10 different contingency plans. If we took pick 3 and were seriously considering the Cats trade of 8 for 14/17 I wouldn't be surprise if we met with about a dozen players between the end of the exams and the draft. A few for the top pick and then up to about 10 who could come in to consideration at 8/14/17.

Ash has a couple of things we don't have.  He has the Leg speed, poise and spacial awareness to cut at the right time, drawing opponents to him as he delivers the ball.  Taking important metres with pace, and setting up forwards.

He can also play wing and IMO, could play small forward flank, with these qualities.  I think he could become a dangerous half forward.

A bit like an Aussie Rules version of a running back MFM.  Will be exciting to watch wherever he ends up.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
