I think the number of players in rehab in January and even February had a big impact on our ability to spend enough time doing match simulation. To meet it seems that on reflection, hindsight being a wonderful thing, Goodwin had wished we'd spent the limited match simulation we had on the fundamentals to our game plan, rather than adding layers. As a result we went into the season with a game plan we couldn't execute.

That was exactly the point he was making.

So his a good bloke to people in the industry and signs players like Preuss to 4 years or Vandenberg to 3 years?

Any GM can get players on long term contracts because it’s what the player managers push for.

You really have no idea.

You're just working that out now?

We will never know if he's the one reviewing his own performance.

Surely you are capable of coming to your own conclusions without relying on some sort of review?

Josh is a professional who is highly regarded among senior figures. Look elsewhere for the answer to our season, it ain't here.

Sorry to disappoint Swyl, I have just flown back in from Italy arrived home 3hrs ago having been overseas at a family wedding, (which I eluded to in other posts).

Nothing changes the rumour mongers are still playing Chinese whispers adding little bits here and there.

Interesting to see the so called Dud in Mahoney has managed to get Burgess and Richardson on board, imagine 2 sort after footy people chosing to come to this basket case

This coming from the guy who was calling other posters Harry hindsight the other day.

That said Richo Won 43 games from 126 and the ladder positions while in charge during completed seasons with St Kilda were 18th, 14th, 9th, 11th and 16th. They were 11th when he left this year. St Kilda's list isn't the greatest, but he certainly didn't do much with them. This isn’t a Clarko we are talking about here.

If we were engaging him as head coach, perhaps you'd have a point.

But we aren't.

Agree

There's some on here who seem to think Mahoney and others in the FD wouldn't have been doing all he/they could from early in the season change things up to get  the club back on course for 2020+

Enlighten me, where has Richo been previously successful playing the role as head coach support.

2013 at Port when they finished 5th.

Finishing 5th once in a decade is hardly anything worth raving to home about. You would think the way people are going on we just landed Roos, Simpson or Clarko.

We just landed a coach with a mediocre track record who was sacked and looking for a new job, he didn’t even need to leave another club to come to us. But yeah, master stroke by Mahoney

Answered your question though didn't it?

He's pretty highly regarded as an assistant coach, especially in development. It's not going ti single handedly change our fortunes, but hardly think it's something to be complaining about given where we're at and how much we need experience around Goody in the box.

Misson was also ‘highly regarded’. Let that sink in. Most over-used term ever being used on Demonland right now.

Ok then, let's go for people held in terrible regard...

If Goodwin is such a good coach why all this talk about him needing help in the box.  I know all coaches have support but the talk in this club is almost such that Goodwin is in trouble unless we get him a former coach to help him.

i am bemused about all this.  I would get rid of Chaplin for sure,  as some other assistants.

Or people with a track record of success.

Again, that was already answered. If you're not going to accept facts then there's not much else I can give you mate. Have a good one.

My perception is that it's more that he's an inexperienced coach with potential and needs experience around him to learn and develop from.

Hardly consider finishing 5th once in a decade ‘success’, but each to there own. Personally I hope Demons perform better then that but I guess to some people 5th once in a decade would be enough.

Stop stating facts please PSD.

It’s much more interesting when people are simply making stuff up.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
