Preuss should have played with the dees on Friday, i have to see this revolving door of player being dropped, being brought back in, being dropped, etc.. omac, anb, preuss.  stick with preuss

Apart from the odd cameo, Preuss has been shown to not be able to bring this form to the AFL. At all. He has been mediocre at best.

Reminds me of those clammering for Hore to be brought in after starring at VFL level. We did, and he was one of the worse performers yesterday. (12 disposals at 50%, 4 clangers, 4 marks from someone renowned for his marking, and zero tackles).

AFL/VFL are completely different levels, played at a very different pace. Standout performances in one do not always translate to the other (and that goes both ways), and we've seen plenty of players who consistently dominate in the VFL but fail at AFL level. Here's hoping that's not the case with Preuss.

Another solid year by Casey. It's an entertaining competition.

On Preuss,he needs some heavy analysis by experts to determine what changes are needed. For total dominance at this level to turn into irrelevance at AFL level there has to be something more. Sure he may not be a star but he should be capable of being a reasonable cog.

Thanks KC and to all the caterers at the various VFL grounds for their diverse offerings from Burra Burgers to Egg and Bacon rolls and not forgetting the Frankston sausage sizzle. Footy at it's simplest

Hore was a proven performer at AFL level prior to breaking his collarbone. That is why people were clamouring for his inclusion.

Isn't it just a question of fitness, an ability to run/work all day at a high level?

Give the Big P some time Bing.  Might not make the step up but 14 games is hardly enough time.  I'm not that optimistic either but he is 2 meters or so and a massive WIP.

Hore has one very ordinary game from 12, most of them top 10 performances and our best defender for the year after weeks out with a collarbone in his first season and you want to highlight his first game back?  Fake news Bing.  Not sure if you've been watching his other matches....

Given you are highlighting his stats... Barring another week like Friday, he is likely to finish in our top 10 for the year and the No.1 defender for the season on averages....

image.png.c6a3c5e88885a6627eb10f78eade5f09.png

No.1 Intercept player ahead of our big name recruits Lever and May.

2nd in rebound 50s only bettered by Salem with four seasons plus and buiding.

5th in 1%ers.

7th for contested marks....only bettered by Lever down back with seasons of experience behind him.

9th in meters gained.

13th in effective disposals for the season (averaging 11.83) .  Only just bettered by fellow defenders Fritschkrieg (12.14 - part of the season in defence), Lewis (12) & Hibb (12) with many seasons experience and premierships under their belt (Louis).

If he has a weakness it is his turnover count ranked 7th (lower is worse) but he still has Salem (6th) and Hibb (2nd) ahead of him, again with seasons more experience behind them.

The weighted score above accounts for and punishes turnovers.

A rare jewel in a horrible season.

Early days, but Marty is going to be a star if this season is anything to go by IMV.

It looks like the entire AFL list can’t kick straight for goal! 0.9 from MFC players.

Re Preuss: I'm neither optimistic nor pessimistic. On the basis of what we've seen I would have though he has a bit of work to do, but who knows.

Re Hore: I agree, he's been a great asset this year. However, my point was simply that great VFL form does not automatically translate to great (or even reasonable) AFL form.

Hope both of them turn out useful players for the Dees, fingers crossed.

I think he's too heavy

He does appear to be too heavy but that wouldn't make him drop simple marks. I reckon it's between the ears, and it won't help dropping him after every game.

He should've been played vs Sydney, as the ruckman, with Gawn at FF and chopping out. Would've kept some forward structure, trialled the 2 ruck game plan, and also given Max more experience up forward, not to mention a bit of a rest. It was a no brainer for mine, given Sydney's lack of a genuine ruck. Would've been fantastic to see him up against Aliir Aliir again.

Did he play mid or back?

Really disappointing game. To kick only 4 goals against the bottom of the ladder side is disgraceful. Really poor performance by Hunt I thought he was above VFL level. We don't deserve to make the finals. Pretty poor year all round by Casey.

HELP! by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons finished off their home and away season against Frankston at Skybus Stadium on Sunday with a narrow, unconvincing 6-point victory that left the door slightly open for a top eight berth when the VFL finals begin in a fortnight’s time.

While sunny skies prevailed over Frankston in the morning, the skies became overcast by noon and heavy waves pounded the bay nearby as the rains came in to greet the players as the game started. And conditions stayed dark and dreary for the remainder of the day as the rain lashed the ground making the spectacle as poor an advertisement for football as you can get leaving one to believe that the Demons certainly need some more help from above if their season is to remain alive.

The game epitomised all what has become of the Demons’ season. Injuries again left the team with less than double figure numbers of AFL listed players and those who took part kicked no goals and nine behinds in an afternoon of wasted opportunities and ended in near defeat as the fast-finishing Dolphins side almost reeled them in during the latter stages of the final quarter of an otherwise dreary low scoring affair.

The Casey Demons started brightly with Brayden Preuss once again dominating the hit out count and were seemingly in complete control of the game for much of the opening term. Mitch White booted the opening goal at the two minute mark and by 10 minutes in Jack Hutchins kicked the second to make it 2.2.14 to nothing. Incredibly, Casey kicked half its goals in that period and it still managed to win despite kicking only two goals for the rest of the game.

You can certainly put that down to the conditions but, sad to say, it appeared that too many players were going through the motions, tired and incapable of lifting, even when their season was on the line.

The exceptions were Preuss who once again excelled at this level and amassed an amazing 23 kicks, 8 tackles and 63 hit outs in a brute of a performance which along with the indefatigable Jimmy Munro (28 possessions and 10 tackles) willed their team across the line.

A few others like Josh Wagner, Hutchins and skipper Mitch White worked hard but there was certainly nothing in this performance to indicate that the Demons are capable of making inroads should the Magpies do them the unlikely favour and give them some help by disposing of the Hawks at Box Hill City Oval next Saturday.

Preuss is an adequate 1st ruck at AFL level, he was good against Carlton and Kreuzer in his one opportunity at it this year.

He's hopeless as a forward/ruck option and is unlikely to improve.

I agree with all of this but he should have played on Friday night to give us a target. It was the stupidest decision Goodwin has made all season.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
