Who the heck is going to relieve Max?  An underdone, skinny Lever? Frost?

Or are we going to run Maxy into the ground as well.

Laughable team composition!!

Disgrace not to give match some chopout for the effort he has put in this year.

Hey Kev I got to training at 9.30 and it was all but over at 9.47! Do you know what time it started? This is twice I have shown up for the captains run at the advertised time to see them walk off after 15 or 20 minutes! I am not expecting a 2 hour slog for the captains run but 15 or 20 minutes of low intensity drills and some goal kicking seems hardly worth setting up for, let alone advertising to fans!

I was there about the same time (9.30). They must have been out from 9 o'clock.

Just as dissatisfied, the captains runs and the cancelling of the two Wednesday trainings.

They must have there reasons.

Two talls out, Preuss did well at Casey.  Who will relieve Max in the ruck?   Spargo?

Three talls out actually, May, OMac, Petty and none in, oh well not to worry.

Maybe Hore goes forward ( he did a lot of goal kicking at training today) but who helps out Max? Given up trying to read the logic in the selections this year.

Not needed this week.

Sydney used McLean last week as their starting ruck.  Grand total of 9 hitouts for the game.  Aliir used as 2nd option...10 hitouts.  Ben Reid took a few forward ruck contests, only 9 as well.

Hysteria. ..over what.

This is a nothing game

Its about a nothing  club run buy a nothing mob that seems to know nothing about football  ...despite inventing it !!

No one's  hysterical.  Pretty much no one gives a [censored]. I dont. This season was over halfway through  game 1.

The only thing  remotely  akin to hysterical is the idea there's much reason or rhyme  about anything  we  (mfc) do as being organised.

At the moment some still talk interestingly of demon football minutae as though we actually  can impact.

Im sure some would post a thrwad about the changing list of lifeboat  captains for the Titanic.

Im sure the usual suspects  will feign outrage.

This game. ..the next are irrelevant.  It's  marking time. Ask a professional  theyd agree if reluctantly.

This takes something away from Chandlers debut i dont mean to dismiss that. Good luck lad.

We're  17th. Thats a remarkable achievement. ....maybe not.

Why this FD hasn't  been summarily  dismissed  is anyones  guess.

Those that feel offended..oh well

This week reinvents the Kruezer cup...havent we come a long way.

Flash back to AFL X with Trac in the ruck?

Ffs. Spargo couldn’t get a kick at a donkey farm.  Really.  Chandler averages 6 kicks and 0.5 goals a game at VFL Level.  I had both as DELISTED at year end.  Worst side since 2014.

Sydney May be bad but we have put up the WHITE FLAG. DISGRACEFUL.

I will watch on TV but NOT GOING TO THE GAME.

You know we’re not playing finals when all our favourites such as ANB, JFK, Stretch, Spargo and a Wagner brother are all playing in round 22.

By my calculations, we have 17 injured/unavailable so ...

Though if you really want to see how bad things are, look at the Casey team for this week.

Interesting that Lockhart wasn't preferred over one of those - would perhaps suggest that he has hit a wall fitness-wise, understandable given his late entry into the AFL and lack of a pre-season.

Either that or it's last-chance-saloon time for some of the above.

Just a guess here, but you had Petty as a delist after his first game? And now?

You simply can't have a guy down for delisting after his first season, before he's played a game. Give the kid a chance.

Spargo will likewise be on the list next year. Let the kids have a genuine crack at it, they're not the ones to blame.

I don't subscribe to the idea that these elite sports people are tanking.

They have a mind set of wanting to win otherwise they wouldn't be in the top tiers of AFL.

The club would have plans much more complicated than my interpretations.

Giving players a go at this time of the year and given our predicament on the ladder, I can see the benefits of the shuffles. Especially on a Friday night. It is good for them and I hope they play well.

They want to feel good with a win and I think they hurt more than us spectators when they lose. (Basic psychology).

Ps. I enjoy the humour.

Agree Kev, most pkayers at this level have gotten this far because of their competitive nature.

I'm not sure about the selections myself but hey going tall with big lumbering big men hasn't worked since Tmac and Weid went down and now Petty out.

I think we can ruck solo against the Swans and use a 190cm + chop out. Smaller forward line is something different not that I think it will work but hey why not try it. I don't rate Pruess as anything other than Max's understudy and Hunt has been ordinary for most of the year and I've said on other threads he's trade bait for mine.

I'm hoping with this line up we look at running hard and spreading across the ground, which has been missing for most of the year

Not sure how we'll go but I shall tune in from the Amalfi Coast in Italy (over for a wedding) whilst hydrating myself with a few reds and Birra Moretti La Bianca's ( which I've become accustomed to), hoping for a win

Bedford, Bradtke & Jordon the only ones left at Casey yet to get the call up...

The cupboard really is bare 'Pennant'.

A lot complaining about selection & for the life of me the in's don't make a lot of sense.

That is until you look at who's available.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
