Apparently we beat out a number of overseas clubs, two AFL clubs and an A-League club for his signature.

This bloke clearly knows his stuff.  Great coup for the club.

Terrific and the first step to becoming a true professional club. This is the exact appointment i want to hear of, going hard and getting their man, a very well renowned operator and beating other clubs and sports to the punch.

Now lets adopt that attitude to players and better assistant coaching group. Show the supporters the club has a single minded approach to righting the wrongs of this season.

Is it too early to start the 'It's all burgoes fault and we need to sack him ASAP' thread?

I have no expertise to comment but given his background, in the EPL and AFL, and the fact Fox says we beat others to the punch it's welcome news. Moreso because it is setting us up for a proper preseason framework already in place.

People here bag Misson but at the time of his appointment he was welcomed as a well-credentialled operator and he certainly lifted us in his early days. This year though, some heads had to go as our preparation was clearly below par.

Not having  a shot at ypu pitmaster but I'm not sure it is possible, or fair, to categorically say our prep has been poor this year (unless you have both inside knowledge and the relevant expertise).

You might be right of course or our fitness issues might be down to bad luck  but personally I'd hate to see misso's reputation get tarnished and for him to cop unwarranted,  ill informed criticism.

Great news for us.

It is some rare good and encouraging news which gives supporters and players something to get excited about.

Will also help allay fears prospective players might have of joining us.

Source?

Maybe other clubs weren't prepared to pay the asking price, just saying.  Its good news but not sure its a coup!

Let's hope he's here for at least a medium term of 3 years plus.

He has a history of moving around to further his career.

Perhaps it's time to settle down and get the job done at Melbourne.

This is taken from the Herald Sun article:

The Demons beat several overseas clubs, at least two other AFL teams and one A-League club for his signature

I'm probably going a bit far with the coup talk, but the bloke has a pretty good resume.  The proof will be in the pudding of course, but it's a positive announcement.

This is a big get for the club; a genuinely world-class practitioner.  Well done to everyone working behind the scenes.

Without wanting to dampen the good mood, and i am really happy with it, do we know the length of the contract. The press Release says we have secured him for the 2020 season... surely its more than a 1 year deal.. surely?

The club, and in particular Mahoney, has been coping alot of flack in recent times but let's face it over the last 3 to 4 years. Whenever it comes out in the media that the club wants someone they've had a pretty good strike rate at getting deals done

The Age is reporting Mahoney saying:  “He’s passionate about the role and genuinely excited to get started, so he will be great to have on our team for years to come.”

So all good!.  Maybe the press release should have read 'from' 2020

Or actually encourage a couple to choose us.

Rest assured I have neither inside knowledge nor expertise. What I was getting at was that players were clearly underdone in the opening month and while that may have been unavoidable given the extraordinary number of surgeries, given how the season developed some element of our preparation in the context of those medical issues has left us poorly positioned to compete.

Like you, I don't want Misson copping unjustified criticism which is why I reminded posters that his appointment was welcomed and seen at the time as part of the club's growing professionalism.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
