I live at Taylors Lakes, no spare land here coach, perhaps they could pull down Thunder Dome and build it there.

The VFL/AFL have been &^*#ing us for the best part of 50 years. We've been too incompetent, too slow or too poor (pick whatever justification you like) to see what's going on.

I am very familiar with MFC and the Asian market as I am the person who put the idea to the Club for a students welcome day some years ago. I set out a whole strategy for attracting international students to Melbourne home games. The only difference being I proposed our members could sit with students and explain the game to them.  I specifically gave  the Club information on international student numbers in Melbourne  as well as the opportunity it could represent for our corporate market. Sadly none of my emails were ever acknowledged at the time although the proposal was taken up the following season. When I finally received a response from the Club they informed me the key people in the Marketing Department had left the Club. I then advised them I had other ideas for the concept but they never got back to me. I was not looking for any recognition or money, just to have a better opportunity to further discuss my ideas.

It’s a little naive to think the club haven’t had the same ideas and haven’t tried to implement what you’re talking about. 

As someone once said, there’s never a shortage of good ideas inside a footy club, but you have to pick and choose carefully which ones to spend your limited resources on trying to achieve.

Love to know who the someone who once said, "there s never a shortage of good ideas inside a footy club". And the MFC, that  well know Silicon Valley hub of footy ideas. Naive perhaps. On the other hand there are 17 other Clubs who didnt think up the idea and only one, MFC who took up  my idea the following season.

Casey is part of a growth corridor which is home to our VFL team and where we run clinics to build our supporter base and membership through young families in the area. It works for this purpose. 

We shouldn't consider a permanent training base that is not within an easy walk of the 'G'.

Anyway, the original point to which the travel time relates was it is the admin staff that would have travel difficulties to Casey more than the players who tend to live east and south of the cbd and travel outside peak time against the flow of peak traffic.

 

well i live at burwood, so well clear of the mcg and inner east and the shortest distance (google maps) to casey fields is 45km. no way i could do it anywhere near 30mins even in off peak. I'm also not too far from the monash fwy or dandenong rd.

realistically i'd allow an average of 1 hour (and each year it gets worse)

Thanks OD, was probs thinking more on the north eastern side of the Calder to Taylor’s Lakes on the empty paddocks that boarder the valley that the maribynong runs through, next to the Keilor public golf course.

PS I don’t actually want the club to have their training base there, was more a point that Casey is a hell of a long way away from the G.

As I understand coach it is in the Tullamarine flight restricted area. However there is no way  the establishment that is the MFC could stomach a facility in the northern surburbs so neither of us will have to worry about a site.

This would be the logical choice. The troublesome residents in East Melbourne can get on board or GAGF. We might need to send in some hevaies to fix them up.

It’s called sportshost. We’re already doing it. I have been part of it via our central Victorian supporters group. It was advertised during the Saints game. Lots of new arrivals from overseas being hosted at demons games by rusted in supporters. I did it last year with a group of Indian guys. They loved it - and hopefully now Demob supporters.

Building over the rail lines would be $$$ but probably the most logical choice. All of that space that could be utilised and the NIMBYS wouldn’t be able to do a thing about it. It would simply add to the MCG sporting precinct.

My original point was we won't be moving the club to Casey as (several hundred) admin staff (who live in all parts of Melbourne and often rely on public transport) would be more affected than players.  Still think that, even if it takes players an hour several times a week to get there.   Casey is not an option for a whole of club venue.
