Dean Kent just limped off at Saints training and likely to miss this week and maybe more.

So, who will play first - Kent or AVB?

Oh thank you LH, exactly what I was going to say.

Maybe neither for us.

I am neither here nor there with Richo - I am wondering what the powers that be, see as the value that he would bring, and for what role?

Would rather try and get Balmey back.  Success seems to follow wherever the old statesman goes.  Love his " say alot but give nothing" banter with the usual press injury questions also!

Mmmm, let's not crucify Goodwin for similar traits though eh.

I think Goody's been copping it more for the "after match" pressor responses EG.  Not sure he even deals with the standard injury stuff during the week.  In fact i can't recall who does down there.

You certainly haven't seen / heard any of that the from myself.  The whole pressor scenario is a complete sham/circus with pretty much the same inane questions every week.  Don't really care how Goody handles them.   What he's doing/saying within the four walls is all that matters IMV.

Personally I don’t see the appeal. Goody doesn’t know how to set up and play at the ‘G. We need a coach who has come from a successful club who’s home ground was the same as ours.

Richo had no issue playing the G when he met us.

Won 3 of 4 meetings at the G.

I think that was more to do with his opposition rather than the venue.

Yeah - let's get Malthouse. Could be a director of coaches?

20 or so people who contribute to the Herald Sun were asked at the start of this season who would make the top 8. Malthouse was the only person who didn’t tip Melbourne to finish in the 8. He was lambasted at the time. Maybe he’s not a crazy old coot.

As someone said he is very much the alpha male and I cant see him fitting in and supporting - he would want to be the dominant force. Pass.

Ha! Madhouse hates us. Had always have us outside the 8.

Regardless, he's a crazy old coot

It's not about having any claim to fame on the G...nor having won a bit of silverware. It's really about having a footy brain and a normal brain that knows when to do what. I for one wouldnt judge anyone per se just  because of a StKilda association. There is no stranger fish than the StKFC. But he seems a reasoned and experienced football mind that seems capable of bending like a tree. We've got to many rock -types currently.

Hell...he has our lot sussed.

I saw him over summer down the surf coast with his missus. He was cracking it because pedestrians were walking on the wrong side of the footpath.

I hope he gave it a stern dressing down and kept it in its place!

Malthouse was probably telling the tree how poplar he is.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
