Saints desperation might actually get them someone? On massive overs like Hannebery.

Just reported on SEN - Brad Hill doesn’t want to play for the Dees.

Ed Langdon in the box seat to land with us.

Doesn't want to play for the Dees cos were not prepared to sell the farm. Let the saints destroy their salary cap.

Alot of money coming off our Cap. Lewis, Jones (lower salary), Garlett.

Love that you're now referring to yourself in the 3rd person ET!

Interesting thing is, if you're saying a player is worth 900k per season, hard to then turn around and say he's not worth 2 first rounders, especially when contracted. i really hope Freo milk this for all it's worth. two first rounders, or one and a very good player or no deal.

We were going to end up giving up pick 2 for Hill anyway which I wasn't comfortable with

Happy to secure Langdon along with another outside mid and hopefully some forwardline scoring power

Well yeah, we won't be using pick 2 for BH, but the emphatic way our fan base has been proclaiming Langdons final worth as pick 20, reminds me of the initial evaluation of wanting two 1st round picks for Hogan, which then leads me to thinking that Freo will want more than p20. Will be hard to address all issues in one draft/trade period

Like every other club.

I'd say pick 20 will get the deal done for Langdon. what we've seen with Bell is he talks a big game but ultimately caves. he had a presser walking away from the Hogan trade, only to end up coughing up exactly what we were asking for to save face.

Pick 6 doesn't sound like exactly what we were asking.

Demons head of football Josh Mahoney this week said the club would be seeking a significant return in a potential trade, with two first-round picks shaping as a potential starting point.

“If you stack up a 23-year-old key forward and everything he’s done in his first 71 games he stacks up against anyone,” Mahoney said.

“We think he’s going to be right up at the highest that anyone has been traded for and we think that Fremantle have that opportunity with some picks that they may gain.”

Yep, we asked for a couple of top 10 picks, they offered one, we tried to meet in the middle with a top 10 and an early second round... after that offer was made, Bell walked away, only to end up agreeing to that trade later on.

the MFC came out and said at the time they were only asking for that first pick and 23 or whatever it was.

Unfortunately we wanted him out more than they wanted him in. Bell played it well.

On the other hand I said at the time he was injured and it could be a major problem and it may well be.He went with a suspect navicular and it flared again. They have the capacity to end careers.

The Hogan deal was unique. He is/was a unique talent but had off field issues bubbling away in the background and an injury ravaged history. The presser wasn’t a bluff Bell was genuinely walking away but in the end MELBOURNE wanted to do the deal Hogan wanted to do the deal, Freo needed a forward and players like Hogan don’t fall in your lap very often.

Our Total Player Payments is what I’d like to be thoroughly reviewed.  Based on our ladder performance over the recent past, we are clearly overpaying a great many players when we’re clearly so tight we’re never in the discussion for a Kelly, Coniglio, Hill, Cameron etc.

There would be players at Hawthorn, Geelong, Richmond that have performed so much better than many Demons over recent years and being paid far less.

For example, I reckon Ricky Henderson from Hawks would be runner up to Max Gawn in our B & F this year, however, I reckon Demons would have 15 to 20 being paid more than him.

AFL will eventually follow USA and publish salaries, can’t happen soon enough for me.

You do know that we have to pay a minimum amount of the SC, regardless of who's on our list? Iirc 95% of the cap?

I fully understand that but you can either overpay D, C & B Graders or you can pay them what they deserve and bring in better players.  I strongly believe Dees have done too much of the former

I suspect Nathan Jones is one classic example of many. Been a B Grader (based on my D, C, B & A rating system) but has been paid much more over the years than A Graders at Hawks, Cats & Tigers due to this AFL 95% rule.

You are spot on correct gwd.

But who are the A graders who want to come to us? Apparently Hill has said 'no' already. Langdon isn't an A grader. Coniglio didn't give us a look in.

Appart from Max and perhaps Oliver, who are our match winners who can turn a close game on its head?

historically jones was paid as an a-grader; he's about to be downgraded in player payment structure a c-grader

apart from the a-graders who have come to us in the last two seasons (lever and may), i would suspect gawn, oliver, brayshaw, t mac would all be being paid at a-grade level having negotiated new contracts over the last two years as well

Nominated Saints as preferred club. 6 year deal worth 5.4 mil and freo want their pick 5. I know he’s a good player but gee that’s seems like a lot.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
