I said elsewhere that imo only Clarry and Max are untradable.

Don't want Gus to leave, but as long as it improves significantly where we are going and doesn't [censored] us up further. I think Cerra has more upside than Gus

Got to give something to get something.

I understand that bolded sentiment, Moonie, but are we actually improving our list by getting rid of Brayshaw?

It would take a very, very good player for us to receive for it to be worth us offloading Gus.  Yep, Gus' year wasn't as good as the year before, but by heck, he's still a quality player.  I don't think it's as difficult for him to get back to his best compared to the improvement a number of others on our list have to make to get to Gus' 2019 form.

I think the only reason you would do it if we could get Hill and Langdon.

Other than that I don't see the point unless we need salary cap relief.

Sure, I get what you are saying.

However, I think we have a number of good players who best play on the inside. I put Gus in that category, as well as Viney, Oliver and Harmes. Next year Trac should get more midfield time. And we have Swallow coming up too.

We need outside runners, we have none of any real quality. If we trade Gus + 20 and get Hill and Langdon, I think both parties would be happy. Perhaps some later pick swaps as well to even up trade points value, as I rate Hill above Gus at the moment.

Then there's what we might do with pick 2 (or 3). King from GCS? Or Anderson or Hayden Young in the draft. Or split the pick? Interesting dilemma.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to keep Gus in the red and blue. But greater than that, I want a better, more balanced list that can return us back into finals and beyond. Having 5 inside mids and sfa outside players will not do this.

It would definitely take more than Gus to get Hill and Langdon. IMO pick 20 would probably be included

No I understand that. I was more saying there's no point trading him unless we are getting a very good player to fill a hole in our list.

My preference is to keep it though as I think he can become our second best mid behind Viney. I'd like to see Harmes and Petracca play for mid/forward as both are dynamic, with Brayshaw spending the majority of his time in the middle.

Gotcha. I read your post wrong.

Btw, no love for Oliver?

So, now that the Blues have missed out on Coniglio, they will be desperate to add another onballer to help Cripps. they dont need more young blokes, they need help for their star player.

Im just throwing this out there as a discussion point, because if we want to get ruthless we have a guilt edged opportunity that could really transform our list in one period: Happy for feedback and debate.

1. Trade Brayshaw to Blues for pick 8

2. Give our first pick to GWS for 11 & 13

take picks 8, 11 & 13 into the draft /or at least 8 & 11 and use 13 for a good RFA like a Shaun Higgins  as an example(would get 3 years out of him and we need class) and use pick 21 for Langdon.

OUTS: P2(3) 7Braysahw P21(approx)

IN: Pick 8, 11, 13 & Langdon

This is just a discussion point, some are in the camp of keep Brayshaw, some are trade him? i have wavered every day, right now I'm 50/50 on it. Just putting it out there as an idea, as i said, happy to be shot down.

can't trade him because i only picked up the Zurich cups with him on them.

Sorry Mahoney etc.

I don't like the idea of Brayshaw leaving for a variety of reasons.

But if a hypothetical came up that resembled yours, I'd take it in a heart beat.

And I agree with going after Higgins.

Yeah i hear you, and i think i am the same but some part of me thinks he may not be happy, he might not buy in and should we trade him?his best is obviously really good, but i think he borderline a liability this year. Im very torn on it, and will probably end up really happy if we keep him.

If Brayshaw is part of the Langdon deal I would want Cerra in the mix...I reckon he has a lot of upside and Lyon hasn't helped his development to date.

It's a tough one both have plenty of upside and years ahead of them, Brayshaw is so much of what we already have in abundance, whilst Cerra is a good user and decision maker

Interesting times ahead

The chances of a player being picked at pick 8 or 9 being as good as Gus are slim.  50-50 chance to get a player that will play 100 games even

I'm backing Gus in 100%.  he is still learning, and will come back hard next year.

only 23yo. played 80 games so he is in the sweet spot over the next 5 years. came 4th in the BnF and 3rd in brownlow last year after missing the first few games!  he is a beauty who had a poor year

This is a really good point and you are right on all accounts

Devils advocate position here, what if Gus isn't happy and he just coasts along?

if he is not motivated enough, the LG, coaches and club need to help here. if he is not committed enough that would be dissapointing but I doubt this is case. he has best mates at the club and comes from a strong football family.

he seems driven to me.  I suspect a young player lost confidence when the wheels of the team fell off.  its amazing how bad players can look when a team has lost confidence

to me he battled through the season and still played some good games - still 5th in the demonland POTY. but obviously looked poor at time

Pick 2 & Gus for Hill & Langdon.  Get it done (always wanted to say that! ??)

I feel we need a little sweetener coming back our way.

Any chance they'd throw in Hogan as steak knives?

As long as it's his good leg BBP!

Brayshaw to Freo for pick 6 then send pick 6 to gws for there 2 first round picks 11&13 maybe send some academy points there way. Draft Anderson with pick two and deal or draft with 11 & 13 (Kemp Flanders Stephens)

GWS will need points for Toby Green's bro.

GC will get pic 2 as a priority pic from the afl and will most likely take Anderson.

If Gus's old man ends up as the CEO of Freo, then that'd be the only way he walks (IMO).

Then we'd be waiting on the outcome of the Tim Kelly decision before we knew what they actually have to deal with. BHill going to the Saints is likely to net them pick 7 or 8 depending on the PP and big for Green. Would they then have to split one of those picks with say GWS or Bris to be able to have 7 or 8 plus (13 and 15) or (17 and 21), in that case would they need to give pick 7 plus pick 15 or 21 to the cats for Kelly.

So Freo might only have pick 13 or 17 to trade to us, plus Langdon, would that be enough for Gus? If they don't get Kelly then they'd have picks 7 & 8, would Gus plus 22 equal pick 8 & Langdon?

Brayshaw's had a poor year, but I also think Goodwin has played him incorrectly, maybe it was a form of teaching to develop his game but it certainly didn't work. He likes the guts and getting into the packs, I feel like he began to second guess some of his natural instincts and it impacted his confidence.

He's certainly better than what we saw this year, he's one that should be setting himself for a massive off season.

He's a keeper.

I think Brayshaws form did start to trend upwards in the last 3-4 games with more centre bounce time. it's pretty clear that is his best position.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
