Smith confirmed out with a flu. Wonder if the club knew yesterday they would have been better off pulling Pruess out of the VFL game.

Haven’t they heard of fluvax?

What's the fascination with Preuss @dazzledavey36?  Surely he would be selected if they felt he could contribute for the entire game, so if they're not selecting him, I would assume they know that he can't?

Um there is no fascination from me. Smith is a tall forward who occasionally rucks. Same as Pruess.

Pretty simple to work it out that it would be based on swap for swap.

Totally. If not actually selected Preuss should've been on standby for today's game.

Disaster Smith going out. Pressure on Weid just went up another 30%.

On a side note, this slide they run with for Big Freeze needs to be 5m longer and have a bigger jump at the end. The punters want to see these people flip and freak out then hit the ice water with a big splash. Only big Fev has pleased the crowd so far!

So a forward comes out and Josh Wagner comes in.

Awesome selection swap.

Preuss cant play forward oh wait a minute!

Hey peeps. Just got here, MCC today and brought my dear old Magpie loving dad :s.

Come on Dees.

Petracca’s statistically had his worst six weeks since his first six games for the club four years ago. He’s averaging just 70 SuperCoach points and has kicked a paltry 10 goals from 11 games as a permanent forward line player. Those are horrible returns.

It’s amazing how divorced from reality our supporters (and the media) can be when it comes to this player. He’s either a chronic underperformer or simply not that good. I think it’s probably somewhere in between.

The similarities with Colin Sylvia’s career path are eerily similar.

Supercoach stats aren't very meaningful in explaining whether a forward is playing well. Petracca's pressure is good, he wins the ball in tight and uses the ball well. The onlys thing letting him down has been our overall ability to move the ball quickly in the first 8-9 rounds, which is getting much better, and his finishing which I think will click today. Dees!

Petracca - Composite Weighted Averages,  to Rnd 11 2019 vs 2018

While i haven't had the chance to isolate his last 6 weeks,  he is way off last year's output this season Chook and is now ranked 5 places lower also.  In other words 5 others have gone passed him this season.

Pressure is ok inside 50 though as you say.  Ranked 4th for tackles inside 50 (averages) out of the regular forwards that play through there, behind Jeffy, ANB and Bull Smith (in that order).  The other upside is score involvements where he is ranked equal 4th alongside Clarry at 5 per game.

Turnovers are his biggest worry however, ranked 4th highest behind Hibb, Melk & Gus.

His kicking efficiency could be slightly better but not horrid...64% to Rnd 11, 66.2% at Rnd 9 (see table below).  Has dropped four places in two weeks.  Plenty of others behind him though in Clarry, Jones, Gus, Hunt, Harmes, Melk, T-Mac and Jeffy to name a few!  My understanding is the AFL average sits at around 68% so not too far away.

image.png.a0e4ddca9cc3403bac696a937fcdece2.png

Out of 35 players this season who have played two or more games he is ranked 17th in DE% sitting on 68.43% to Rnd 11.

Preuss must have ran over Goodwins cat.

Cant get a game to save himself.

Very frustrating for me as a supporter so I can only imagine how frustrated Preuss is.

Wouldnt be surprised if he requests a trade at the end of the season if he continues not to get a game in the seniors.

It will be close but the filth will probably win. Hope to beat them later in the year.

Thanks @dazzledavey36. Can Wagner play forward? Or is it going to be a re-shuffle that puts Salem / Fritch forward?

JWag taking on the role of Fritschkreig, who goes forward, would be a decent result for mine Trig

must beat them to many filth friends who bag me until this time next year

Flying the red and blue flag all the way from London!

Go Dees!

The failure to name Preuss as an emergency is just another of Goodwin’s selection mysteries this year. Especially when we knew Cox was coming back in. He has smashed us in recent games, and while I’ll back May and co to do the job, if he gets off the chain the egg will be all over the selection committees face

I think he was named as an emergency but obviously lower down the ladder to be recalled of the 4.

lol, Clarrie with another dumb handball option when he could have kicked the bloody ball.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
