Not sure who we are into, but would like to see what we would get in return for Frost, OMac, Petracca, Garlett, Hunt, ANB and Viney.

This year will define us and we need to be ruthless. We have severely overestimated our list.

agree with the first 5.. but to suggest you trade Viney is borderline ridiculous. he has had a pretty shocking 2 years with injury.

Lets explore options, but lets not get carried away.

I dreamed when Viney arrived, he would be a star of the comp. he is currently our 3rd or 4th best midfielder and has lost his explosive 5m pace. Just want to add more layers to the side with guys who have some currency

He still has the potential to be a very good footballer.

He has struggled for for continuity in recent years, which can make any player look average.

Yep. He’s terrible too.

I haven’t updated that fave player thing in 3 years. Clearly.

apologies - I wasn't having a go at you - more of an acknowledgement of a disappointed reality of Jayden

2017 - 1st pick 29 Spargo 2nd pick 31 Fritch

2018 - 1st pick 27 Tom Sparrow  2nd pick 33 James Jordan - Too early to say stuff ups.

Plenty of lemons went before Fritch and not many stars after him. I think Sparrow will be OK

Spargo & Fritch have played 50 games between them, even Freo who picked Brayshaw & Cerra have less games from their first 2 picks (picks 2 & 5) Yes I would rather have Brayshaw & Cerra but we didn't have pick  2 & 5

I was referring to first round picks. We have given up 3 since 2017, and right now have little to show for it. I think Fritsch has taken a step backwards this year, just doesn’t seem to be playing with the same flair and Spargo will continue to struggle due to his lack of pace and size.

Grab anyone with PACE SKILL AND A HEART

draftees : Matthew Rowell, Hayden Young and Noah Anderson are my clear top 3.  But I think as bad as it has started, we will finish above Kangas, Suns, Blues, Lions or Dogs. Likely 13th spot. Pick 6.

Brodie Kemp, Caleb Serong or Dylan Williams are the young agile mids that have appealed for likely additions if we get a low pick around 5-7 range. Brodie Kemp will rise and rise given he is ready to go round 1 2020 type.

For trade period, pace, skill and heart.

1. Ed Langdon (Freo) is most likely. MFC 2020 1st round for Langdon and Freo 2020 2nd Round.

2. Zak Jones and Swans 3rd pick 2020 for MFC 2nd round pick.

3. Tom Cutler from the Lions. Probably trade Jkh to Lions or perhaps Josh Wagner.

Cutler back in for Lions. Will monitor him closely.  If we offered a 2-3 year deal, he and his manager would have to be tempted.

Whatever we do maybe it’s time to look outside picking up players from Casey or is that as far as our talent scouts travel??

How much spare cash have we got to throw around? we have spent the majority on it on two defenders who aren't playing at the moment...

We’ll have a bit with first Watts then Hogan shipped out. Lewis and Garlett will be off the books at years end. With staggered contracts I think we’re expecting to be able to snag a decent trade target this year.

Anyone know much about Jeremy Sharp? Winger/halfback that likes to run and carry the ball from the little I’ve read. I don’t think we’ll finish bottom 2-3, all though since our season is over I wouldn’t mind getting No. 1 pick, so Rowell and Anderson will be gone.

Not defending our woeful season to date... but every team that has beaten us is in the top 8.  We’ve had a challenging fixture to start the season.

Our 1 win has come against the only team we’ve played currently outside the 8.  More wins will come.

...because they beat us by a big margin that gives them the %'age to be in the 8.

I don't find it consoling ?

The Watts and Hogan money was spent on Lever and May respectively and by all reports are our two highest paid players.

You may be right about some sal cap space with Lewis and other players going this year but I don't expect it to be huge especially with other existing player contracts to renew in the next 6-18 months.

If Jones goes then it may free up a fair chunk of coin.  Otherwise, we probably won't have many chips to spend.

I thought we were offering 750k to Gaff at one early stage in last years race, while we still had Hogan? Or was this [censored]?

Sadly the Lever trade is speculative now. We could have a ten year player and future Captain or an average half back with injury concerns. Time will tell as it will with May.

Could be.  I recall that during the year we signed Brayshaw on reportedly good coin.  At some stage we re-signed Max and Jetta who deserved good coin and I think TMc was also re-signed.  So maybe we used up the Gaff money for existing players.  I really don't know tbh.

Its worth noting that sal cap rules allow a carryover of only 5% so clubs cannot build a $bank.  So not sure we would have a kitty for this year anyway.

I can't seem to find a link to support this, but I could have sworn since signing May, the Club had said we've still got money in the cap to target another FA at the end of 2019.

I'd say Jones' 2014 contract is almost certainly heavily front-loaded and I doubt his retirement will free up much coin, nor would Lewis' likely front-loaded contract.

I also recall that said but not sure it came from someone at the club or a media commentator.  And, I guess it depends where on our pay scale the FA lands.

As you say, if Jones' and Lewis contracts were front ended then their won't be much extra coin so with the AFL rules of not banking sal cap I don't see where the money for a highly paid FA will come from.

As an aside, if we use our sal cap to bring in another player at the top end of our salary range (ala Lever and May) while our existing talent are kept in the upper middle range, I wouldn't blame their manager's starting to looking elsewhere.
