Oh, it's noted. He also didn't show up until late in the game tonight.ย

I don't actually think he is a Melbourne supporter. Just probably hops across different forums to do the same thing.ย

Now thatโ€™s just speculation with no hard facts.

Facts like Taylor opting to draft Casey players over the best available.

ย

I think we do need to start to look for sme mids, this coming draft. Both Jones and Lewis need to hang up the boots, we need to bring some younger players to fill their spots in 2020.

So do we draft in ready made mids, say from other clubs or draft young players, hoping they can play form round one?

You're clueless mate. These picks were the highest we've had. A recruiter should nail these picks... A pick in the second round should not be an stab in the dark. Picking weideman when he had question marks all over his endurance was a blunder. Name one player we have drafted recently bar Oliver that would get a game in a top 4 side??

Brayshaw, Tracc, Harmes and Salem were all picked by Taylor. Fritter and a fit Hannan are handy too.

Trading our top picks was the responsibilityย of Mahoney and TViney rather than Taylor.

But I guess you knew that Mr Cluelessย ย

Didn't think I would come up after Saints game but the Anzac game is bigger than football. Saw a lot to like in first quarter but then the anxiety kicked in and we stopped taking the game on. The amount of skill errors was dumbfounding. We remained rugged in the clinches and kept within striking distance until the final quarter. The thing that stood out was our lack of synergy... players are playing for themselves... no consistent link ups between mates... no chain of events. We get in each others way more than assist each other to gain a clear passage.

I thought Max was excellent. Hibberd did a good job on Dusty. Melksham played out the four quarters. Salem maintained good form. Hore continues to be a good contributor down back. Smith was the only forward to stick a few good grabs... he chased hard as well.ย

Weiderman needs a break at Casey. Hunt was all at sea. Jeff didn't give us much. I've never seen Fritsch mess up with his ball handling to that extent before today.ย

Good post Wayne there were positives tonight

Effort

Players obviously being aware not to rush in to contested possession on mass and get burnt on the outside for the first 3 quartersย

Defending deeper and not giving easy goals away out the back

Forward structure needs a lot of work and we're still a long way off but a couple of things to like

Apart from Grundy who is good around the ground and maybe Witts??? Is there any other ruckman playing consistently well at the moment?

2 tackles inside our forward 50 speaks for itself.

Turnovers speak for themselves.ย

Sh-t disposal again by hand and foot, against the slickest side in the comp, will get you a loss every day of the week.

Brayshaw and Oliver, our 2 key mids, got plenty of the ball and simply butchered it. Goody can't do much about that.

We need to go back to the drawing board and identify our weaknesses and then develop a plan to remedy them. That includes bringing in pacy, skilful players and making changes to our assistant coaching panel, who clearly are struggling with devising a simple game plan that we can play to.

Yes injuries and surgeries have hurt us, but so has our list and gameplan.

2 goals in 3 quarters is reminiscent of the Prelim last year. It is just unacceptable.

BTW, I thought Hunt and Petracca were pathetic tonight.

For those who keep knocking Frost, I suggest you watch another sport. He has tried his guts out this year.

Petracca needs a rocket up his rear end .. ย looks like has a poor engine & question his fitness . No second effort & cant hold tackles which goes back to fitness ..ย

Hunt strength was running out of defence with his speed but his kicking lets him down .. is not a forwardย

Brayshaw, Trac and Salem were no brainers at that pick. Early picks.

I give him Harmes, that was a good pickup but a broken clock is also right twice a day.

I am aware pick trading is not Taylor, else I would also be talking about trading out 3 first rounders for injury prone defenders.

Passed on de goey twice ...ย

We also need to look at why we through the side around every minute of every quarter. I donโ€™t think more than 6 players actually played in the one spot all night. At one point, Huntbwas playing out of the goal square. Players are thrown all over the place. The first quarter structure showed potential and then we threw it all around. Went defensive. Why? Iโ€™m fknnn fed up.ย

The soft underbelly of this club will never be gone. We are a weak club and our list is full of over inflated egos and lazy underachievers. We look flat footed, unfit, slow and lacking in any skills.ย

Nice to see Goodwin trying to mix things up, but his game plan stinks and we will never win games of footy by having a completely empty forwardline. I lost count of the times we had not a single option to kick to going inside 50. Tony Lockett couldnโ€™t kick a goal playing for this sad excuse of a team.ย

We are in a world of trouble as realistically our list has no depth and we have no foreseeable improvement to come.ย

Our skills are deplorable, but worst still is our inability to do basic defensive things. 17-3 tackles inside 50 is disgusting. 76-57 tackles another damning stat.ย

We are lazy, we donโ€™t spread hard enough, we donโ€™t tackle well and we continuously lose our opponents in transition.ย

Far be it from me to pick on a single player, but why did we bring in ANB?ย Houli tore him a new one and he laid one tackle inside 50. One.ย

So many players are out of form or in decline and we just arenโ€™t getting near it. Even our best asset, our midfield, is really down on form.ย

All in all this season is a massive bust, and sadly we have 4 more years of Goodwin and his silly media smile and his [censored] political talk and very little tactical nous.ย

Did anyone see ANB crumb a front and center contest and had Tim Smith running past him into an open goal only to then hold onto the ball and get tackle.... ?โ€โ™‚๏ธ

That was funny

Look at Richmond, they playย like a team, for each other.

We arent doing that.

Too many trying to do things on their own.

Those "high picks" were 2nd and 3rd rounders. Taylor is amongst theย lastย  who should be sacked.

But of course, you'dย know best

Canโ€™t blame Taylor completely but our trading strategy is starting to look second rate. We have coughed up 3 first rounders for key defenders obviously believing we had the other bases covered, e.g. no need for some leg speed, outside run, I.e. quality wingers, small defensive forwards. We now seem to have deficiencies everywhere and with our injuries, no depth at all. Looks like it is back to the draft and hope to find a first round gem.ย

As did 2 other clubs.

Again, hindsight.

Oh, you forgot Mitch McGovern and Ed Langdon as late picks he missed, like most other clubs.

Didn't see you promoting De Gory on here?

Edited by Moonshadow

The drafting of the last few years has lacked.... risk. Our early picks no one would change at the time, hindsights different. What i dont understand is we filled our midfield with competitive ball winners. Nothing wrong with that we have very good contestef players. Early pick on weid which hes not a jonathon brown, development and better "connection," will see him more productive. Trades we'veย  bought high and sold low, may really high, he's 28 alreadt isnt he? So jason taylors had second rounders and later.

What he's picked have been safe players. Spargo, sparrow. Just safe picks. Once you get to this part of the draft, normally you could throw a blanket of a bunch. So why not pick the kid that does something really well? Might not be as rounded but have something the safe ones dont. Howe and his ability to read the ball and mark, elite disposalย  as long as they have good contested numbers too, he selected oscar baker who fits this, kicking can be a bit floaty, but has above average speed. He may or may not work out, but if they do, you end up with a point of difference to the safe not anything special pick.

No I'm not a full time recruiter but I saw de goey play at oakleigh and everyone knew he'd be a fantastic playerย

That was a great crumb, I was surprised he took it cleanly. I wasn't surprised it ended up in no score.

That is the first time in a long long while I have been bored at a footy match. Well after 1/2 time that is. I mean in that first quarter we were going ok. But at 1/2 time and after even though we were only a few goals down it felt like we were 6 goals down.ย

Even when Neal-Bullen kicked that goal in the 3rd I just couldn't get excited.ย

Anyway at least I have a 10 day break to worry about our next game.ย

Oh on a side night. Well done to all involved in the pre game ceremony. It was really well done.ย

I didn't post on here back then.. you have to be conscious of the size of dominant players in u18, Petracca dominated cause of his bigger frame. De goey was skinny as an u18 player and stood out with his skills and ball winning abilityย

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, weโ€™ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: โ€œThen came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.โ€ Today, weโ€™re back in the same place although oneย difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, โ€œIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, โ€ฆโ€ย  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
