Luck is a word worth using in regards to May's injury, but so is diabolical.

What a massive fail he'll be in 2019. Let's hope he pays us back with interest in 2020.

I doubt it’s poor luck AF. May did not prepare his body like a professional athlete should and is now paying the price for it. The Demons are now paying the price for it.

In a sane world he’d be docked at least half of the $750+k he’s getting paid. It can’t be underestimated what kind of negative impact it must’ve had on the rest of the playing list to see this high priced recruit rock up to day one of pre season training with cheeseburger face and mudguts.

“Surprised by the different training standards” at Melbourne compared to Gold Coast? Spare me. Poor discipline and disrespect for his new coach more like it. Steven May owes the club an All Australian season in 2020, nothing less.

People keep bagging May for being unfit, and if it's from his own doing then yes i can understand being upset. However, could it have been the Suns, not having their players fit enough?

When Colin Sylvia went to the dockers he was unfit and they were trying to get him fit by giving hard sessions away from the club.

It seems everybody new that May was overweight and unfit prior to his recruitment other than our football department. Just read Demonland at the time. This has been a high order stuff up.

Worst excuse ever. The Suns allow their players to skip cardio sessions and eat vanilla slices at will? Please.

In an AFL360 interview, when shown clips of our club (eg May, Jones, Goodwin) implying 'our standards' are higher than GCS, Dew replied 'players set their own standards' and named GSC players who had, implying May hadn't.

As a co-cap May should have set the standards for himself and his team.  It seems he didn't and blaming his old club is very poor.   No matter how I look at it May has to take responsibility for himself.

You have to wonder about our due diligence into his training, game recovery and post injury rehab behaviours.   And the thoroughness of our interviews to determine how committed he was to getting the best out of himself.  Right now it looks like a club sooo desperate that we turned a blind eye to what others could see or could easily be known.

As an aside, 'our standards' aren't looking too good given the number of players said to have started preseason in less than desirable condition.  Pot.Kettle.Black.  GCS may well have the last laugh...laughing all the way to the bank.

By all accounts he didn’t show much interest in preparing for 2019.

A massive let down.

I hope they are sending Steven May to every school in Melbourne between now and his next game to read to some kids or do something constructive to earn his fat paycheck.

The Jetta injury is largely the fault of the club/individuals that let him play when clearly injured, and heads need to roll.

Play him at full forward with instructions to lead to the fat side.

You only have to post 36,235 more times to catch the number of ties beezlebub has posted, at the rate your going you will catch him at the bye round.

Amazing how the club can accurately assess it as an 11 week-er. Guess they can’t bring themselves to just write ‘season’. Too embarrassing.

What's the source for this mods..?

I see it on the side of the Demonland homepage, but the club website says TBA and the AFL site say TBC and The Age yesterday says that he's expected to be back in June...

[censored],  forgot all about young Salem,

Such is his fly-under-radar wayz...  a little like Jetta.   They go quietly,  getting things done,  without large fanfare.

AFL.com now say 3-4 weeks.

May was contracted to play footy. Not being able to should have him in breach of a performance-based contract. I don't think he will have a long career, he seems a bit lazy and fragile.

I don't disagree, but lets assess May at season end.

Attitude aside, his physical injury and history is now beginning to take on a chronic appearance.

The question is not just getting him back playing footy but once he returns will his body allow for regular selection. He's no longer a kid. And, what will this mean to his fitness condition. Has to be a big question mark.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
