Looks like we chose Filopovic over the Big O, McInerney. The big fish we let slip away...He joins Stefan Martin, laughing all the way to posterity.

Every single club can say the same about a stack of different players. McInerny last through to pick 37 in the rookie draft, so every club passed on him over 100 times.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Sure is. Foresight is better though...

As long as Casey keeps developing VFL players into AFL standard we are going to be in the box seat to pick up some gems. But we can't pick them all. We have already got decent footy out of our fair share of VFL recruits.

Fritch and Hannan are both best 22 from VFL and we picked Hannan out from under the dog's nose. Lockhart and C Wagner have shown little bits in a struggling side. And there's a case to be made Keilty might get a chance if not this week then soon. We really shouldn't be complaining about our VFL recruiting.

He is playing the role that we need Pruess to play. Sit at full forward, compete, crash packs and hit the scoreboard. But also give Gawn a much needed chop out.

We also missed out on drafting Alistair Lynch who slipped to pick 50 in 1986!

That's not my point you silly sausage: Lynch was never under our nose in our kennel, so to squeak.

I was being facetious, but in actual fact, we had four draft picks before Lynch went.

We used all four picks on Tasmanians but not on Hobart's very own Alistair Lynch.

So he would have been pretty close to our nose.

We missed out on recruiting Michael Jordan in a cross-code deal, he was right under our noses because he thought about visiting Australia one-time....ridiculous thread.

I have no idea if this guy will make 50 games; haven't seen him play.

You can talk about hindsight, but I will just refer to list-clogging.  Who has clogged the list in the past 2-3 years that have prevented us from pushing up a project player.  We persevered with Spencer for too long and Clarko also sold us a 'pasties' .

The next Shane Valenti, or possibly even James Magner!

But seriously, it is too early to be having hindsight! :D

If you stacked them together they'd still be shorter than the mighty Brisbane Big O.

This is an idea that probably should have been tried.

I followed this draft quite heavily. I, by memory, was under the impression we were to take him (most likely with the 41st pick that was used to get Keilty) but Brisbane scooped him.

We stole Hannan from the Bulldogs.

Lots of stories of players “under your nose”.

Speaking of Hannan, we are really missing him in the team....  one of my fave players.

You really try and shoehorn your anti-Lewis rhetoric into almost every topic and have particularly doubled down this week in the face of hard evidence (0-7) to the contrary. It reeks of desperation.

Come over to my place and lets watch the PF again.

The worst on-field decision this club has made since the Neeld era....just behind the Lever trade.

Credit to Big O but he's playing well in a team that's clicked into gear. Makes a big difference. Do we really think he'd be performing at a high level in the current dog's breakfast we are putting out on the field? He's performing above expectation but I'm not crying into my cornflakes over this particular oversight.

Finlayson was pushed to full forward against the Tigers on the weekend and looked a natural on the way to kicking 5 goals. Could be one to keep an eye on. If he can be pried away.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
