In short, I think it's newsworthy and while I don't work in the media, if I were editing the Herald Sun, I'd publish it.

Well, the Herald Sun achieved their objective in selling more newspapers and creating controversy didn't they? By dredging up old news and besmirching further the reputations of some good people without putting it in the context of the faults of the system of the time and the fact Melbourne were not the only ones to make coaching/selection/surgery/resting of players decisions during a number of seasons.

I don't care whose decision it was to publish it. It is still a low act and shameful. 

Oh, and where are the papers about what substances were injected into those young boys at Essendon, perhaps jeopardizing their future health? If they want to do some investigative journalism how about tackling that.

The transcripts. Up until now it's all been conjecture. The Herald Sun (somehow - and that's something that the AFL should be worried about) has got transcripts which definitively tell us what Bailey and others said in their interviews.

the release of documents well after the event is a long practiced and ethical means of investigative journalism.

It's called public interest.

I welcome the practice and await with interest the tell all story on the Essendon saga. It will come.

The Hun's cheer leading for Hird and all his sycophants when viewed in the light of this piece is bloody sickening. I won't say that it makes what we did right but when the time came to ask the hard questions when young men's health was at stake, we got crickets. The media boys club got around one of their own and spent the next three years deflecting.

I don't see why they wouldn't do it again.

Usually, I go into a match with a sense of dread after stuff like this blows up. I had plenty of experience with that feeling as circumstances, self inflicted and unintentional, have caused us to self destruct over the last 20 years. But you know what? I'm genuinely filthy over this. I hope to god the team comes together over this and makes a bloody statement.

This is an attack on us as a club to do nothing more than sabotage us. Fork the Hun and their little Aussie battle demographic of Hird apologists and the easily amused. I loathe that paper but I want us more than ever to stick it right up their clacker.

No it possibly won't DJ although I do hope that you are right

Essendon are well protected though ... where as we are the easy scapegoat.  There is nothing fair about this whole caper but that is the world we live in. 

My way of dealing with it all is to lose my emotional attachment to the AFL but at the same time strengthening my emotional attachment to the Demons.

It's the MFC and that is it now.

I see the Essendon saga tell all being in the form of a book serialised in the mainstream press. Likely author.. Caroline Wilson.

She will need an inside source and I suspect there are some that are ready to tell their story albeit anonymously. There have been some fantastic US political campaign bios written on a similar basis.

I'm not going to elaborate because this is in my view a filthy beat up timed by the HUN for today. If they were truly investigative reporters they would look at why the several other clubs who did exactly the same thing as Melbourne (Carlton - the club that Brock McLean went to did far worse) and got away without investigation. The Melbourne angle isn't news any more except for the Essendon interests at the HUN who showed their true colours during the drug saga.

There was already one put out by Chip Le Grand. Was very much on the Essendon side of things.

Jake hints at it here but if they're going to rehash the Melbourne thing again I wish they (someone in the media) would put it all out there...dig into why Libber recanted..look at Collingwood and WC results...replay the Wallace/Tiges story.

Look at Carlton again and again, explore the link between them and the AFL chairman.

Do a thorough job on the AFL and tanking.

And my point is further supported by the amount of times in this thread alone that there is mention of these clubs doing it themselves, which helped lead to premierships.

The bigger story is how Melbourne was not found guilty of tanking and simply bringing the game into disrepute given the evidence at hand which the AFL had the whole time.
