Pessimistic tonight. Our top players are underdone compared to the Cats. And, the Holy Trinity along with Hawkins, Taylor and Co will want revenge after the semi. And in front of a baying crowd of fans.  A couple of new faces for the Dees also underdone.

My optimism is that despite tonight we will get a lot better as the season progresses, we just need to win some games to keep us in touch.

Anyone going tonight at that windswept hole of a ground surrounded by one of the worst group of supporters needs a Bravery Award or other compensation.

I know that behind that macho womanising, drunkin, huntin, fishin façade  you really love me Ernie.

I do love you Uncle in a platonic way of course.

I think that lurking behind that coarse exterior and fantasy world of depravity, there is a sensitive, intelligent older man who really does like gardening and fine wine.

In my case, I have not accepted the new world of diverse sexuality or LGBTI.

I still like to think a man is a man and a woman a woman, and behave accordingly.

So I love you as a man loves a man in the old world way. Perhaps its called mateship without the bonding.

Josh Caddy and Campbell Brown having a chat on channel 7's new pre-game show...

I can barely understand what they are saying.

Why would you let thes guys on tv?

Kudos to any Demon fan who is game enough to show their face at GHMBA Stadium tonight.  Not because you support the club, but because you have to sit among the worst set of supporters on the planet.  They are arrogant, dumb and ugly.  When you add vocal to the mix, you'll get spittle on the back of your head all night and a bunch of unintelligible words that only someone from Corio could understand.

Good luck and God bless.

I'm getting quite aroused.

We simply must fight tonight. We have to show something.

No reason why we cannot play a small ground

just remember last year down there, we were so close to winning well, but we let go

Don’t do it again...

I'm having an enjoyable pre game experience with a Hoegaarden ?

Just about to go to the fridge and get ourselves out a lovely cold can of Guinness stout. Brewed in Dublin of course. Hopefully it will go well with the West Coast weather back 'home'. Love the Boyoos to smite the smug "unbelievers" in the hoops. Now that would be a historic victory up there with 2015. ☔

your going to early

Why so many so glum? Go back to any of last 3 games V Cats and add one of comp’s BEST 1-1 defenders to our side as well as some polish from KK & that’s tonight - If you’d of known we’d add that next time we face Geelong after the finals we’d be 50pt favourites.. weather helps cus it’ll be a gritty contest and I expect our boys to be simmering..

Dees by 15pts

Yep they’ve started already. Long way home they are telling us.

yes .. that has become a problem in recent times.

i understand better early than not at all

We beat them and end their season in the finals, but Fox Footy fixates on Tuoy's after the siren shot.

That seems a tad extreme chook. If things go awry I shall simply give the maid a jolly good thrashing.

I hope you got her a new Geelong jumper. The old one would be in tatters by now!

lets go dees kick the crap out of the pussys

Get him Jack!!!

Get your [censored] sorted Melbourne. FFS!

We are a messy shambles.

We look out of sorts. Just no cohesion.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons have the Bye next week but then are on the road once again when they come up against the Gold Coast Suns on the Gold Coast in what could be a last ditch effort to salvage their season. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
