Considering he has only been in a professional environment for a couple of months, I think he has great promise to be a good role player.

I dont think i have ever seen him play? Can anyone tell me what kindnof player he is??

Does he also go onto the rookie list or the main list?

Wow. Lockhart only played 21 games for Casey last year including the vfl grand final.   Informed???

Lockhart showed enough to be close to AFL ready last year. With a preseason now he could be very handy as a backup for Jetta or a lockdown mid.

Definitely shows we nearly drafted him last year.

Lockhart probably equal with Hore for best 1st year player.  Hannan Fritsch Hore Lockhart.  Good talent out of VFL and our Casey link is working out.  Mitch Lewis is another one still to watch at Casey

Have no idea what this even means. You are either simple or can't grasp the context of what i have been saying.

From my first impressions of Lockhart this YEAR, is that he looks a natural footballer. He is surprisingly a strong mark for his size, quick, a good kick of the foot and has good nous of where the goals are.

He is the exact reason why Spargo and ANB are arent getting games and thats a bloody mighty achievement for someone who didnt even do a AFL pre season and spent the summer working as a labourer.

With more games and experience he will only get better.

You said he is battler. Well i can tell you he's not.

Lockhart has heart. That is the sign of a battler. Battle ready.  He is one player I would be happy to run out on GF day to give 100%.

DD says never knew Lockhart before March 2019.  Must live in a very dark cave.  Only played a whole year at Casey in the Demons team !! DD either lacks a neural nerve or is just hollow.  Assume both.

I didnt watch a Casey game last year because

1. I dont give two [censored] about Casey players

2. I have much more important things i prioritize in my life then watch a VFL game. Like playing my own game of footy on a Saturday or spending my Sunday with family and friends. I have a life mate.. unlike you i dont sit on my computer all day scrambling to watch meaningless VFL games.

You will also find majority of people had never seen Lockhart play as some live interstate and wouldnt get live games on tv.

Again you have failed to understand the context of what i am trying to say.

This is the last you will hear from me on this, as i have now come to the conclusion that you're simply not with it.

Anyway my point is Lockhart has a heart and plays that way.  Great competitor like Jetta.  That’s the point.

Unfortunately ineligible for a rising star nomination (23) as recognition to his start to AFL career.

21 possessions (10 contested), 432 metres gained (#1), 8 inside 50s, 5 score involvements, 2 goals.

His stats don’t tell the full story either. He is a smart player under pressure and he doesn’t fumble. Two things we are crying out for.

We’ve found one here.

A lot to like about today's game. Has some natural football smarts, is clean with his hands, and has a piercing kick. Small forward position isn't an easy role to play though. There aren't too many small forwards that play consistently aside from Walters, Ablett, Betts, De Goey. Others tend to be in and out of games, so hope he can continue to develop and play other positions. Spargo and even JKH (in his first season) both looked promising at times but are now in the VFL as they aren't elite forwards or able to play other positions when things aren't going their way

I’d just like to put my flag in the ground and say I’ve claimed him!

Love his composure in traffic, especially around goal. Stands out like dogs balls when other, more fancied, teammates are so quick to dump it by hand or foot when under pressure.

When I watched him against Collingwood last week in the VFL he was 2 steps above everyone else. His speed and power around the contests were phenomenal.

The fact that he is already making a huge impact with NO afl pre season behind is amazing.

Has huge upside.

Jay has the 3 P’s - Pace, Poise and  Polish. Quite remarkable for someone that has come in without experience or a proper preseason. A great get and a big contract extension beckons.

He played a terrific game yesterday.

He played with the poise of a far more experienced player. If he continues this development he'll be a gun. Kudos to whoever spotted him in the wildlands of Taswegia.

Jason Taylor ..

But according to some on here he is a dud recruiter...

Have liked his game from the get-go: as others have said, he has real footy smarts and keen determination, but also he goes so hard at the footy, regardless of the opponent. Yesterday, there were three occasions that I saw, where he crashed the contest against much bigger bodies.

He and Marty Hore have been great pick ups this year - long term Demons, both of them.

He’s the sort of player that is picked up as a mature age recruit by another club, has the game against us that he had yesterday and we all think “why can’t we pick up a player like that?”

This season we’ve picked up two of those types, Hore and Lockhart.

He also worked hard the other way and intercepted in some plays down back.  Not just the talent.  Bloke is willing to work his [censored] off.  Great signs!

Great first goal.   He could be the small forward we desperately need.

Lockhart is about the only thing keeping  me interested at the moment.  Has kicked some lovely goals already.. has great goal sense.  I feel he may snag a couple of bags this season as he gets more comfortable and our mess of gameplan is (hopefully) sorted out.

If Goody moves him from the forward line I will scream.

Knew he was going to be a gun player.  And I was right as always.

It is quite hard being a genius. Some days are much harder than others especially with all the pressure that comes with it,  but you do what you can to get by.

Really like the way Lockhart goes about it. I think we’ve definitely found a player. Interesting to see how he goes off a full pre season.

@Drunkn167has been singing Jay's praises since he joined Casey.  Jade Rawlings probably kept his name front and centre for Taylor.

I think he may have a similar trajectory to one we did miss in Papley (although he’s no mental giant going by his election day interview).

However we’ve done quite well in this department of late.

The dogs & pies would be asking why they missed out on Hannan & Hore, while we still managed to get Fritsch & Lockhart.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
