Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

New MCC President

Who knows how much it will help the MFC and, while it isn’t mentioned in the article below, the new MCC president is a passionate Melbourne supporter and comes from a family of passionate Melbourne supporters. If there was ever a time to quietly cement the MFC/MCC relationship now would opportune. Mike is the perfect replacement for the current president, Steve Smith, of the MCC who played over 200 games for us

Perfect.

Even if he doesn't overtly favor our club, at least he isn't a rusted-on supporter of a co-tenant who might make our alignment less beneficial.

Good news IMO.

And Happell’s sport of choice “Real Tennis” , gee, a real down to earth pursuit and just the one to further cement the image of the MCC with non members!

Former Demon champion, Steve Smith has finished his term as MCC President.

Michael Happell has taken over.

I have a feeling he's a Carlton supporter. This is regrettable.

I know it's not absolutely necessary, but surely it's desirable, that the MCC Pres has an affinity to the Demons.

This, in my opinion, shows the importance of MCC-member  Demon supporters(of whom there are many), exercising their vote, where possible, in favour of Demon -connected candidates in committee elections.

I hope some Demonlander with more familiarity with Happell will correct me.

Hi. While our relationship is distant, Mike is a cousin of mine. And I can confirm our extended family are and have been Demon supporters forever. Mike has fallen in line with the family tradition- passionate Melbourne.

I have fond fond memories of going as a teenager (in the 1980s),with my aunt, Mike's mum (and three of her mates), to many suburban grounds to follow the Dees. The soups these older ladies brought in their thermoses were always comforting, often in the face of defeat. Until that amazing run in 1987 ...

Thanks, Mark.

When I posted my query about your cousin, I didn't realise the topic had been already raised, though I thought I'd  checked pretty thoroughly before posting.

I'm glad we've got another Demon enthusiast in the role. I guess they don't publicise their affiliation to an AFL side in case it arouses concern amongst the many (majority) of non-Demon MCC Members.

Is your cousin Mike related to the journalist, and former Uni cricketer, Charles? I suspect so.

During my 40+ years MCC membership I think most presidents have been MFC supporters. The last non MFC supporter was Paul Sheahan (Steve Smith’s predecessor) who kept his passionate support for the Cats quite well hidden. I also believe the majority of board members are rusted on Dees supporters.

I should probably know this as I'm an MCC member, but the MCC announcement states that the new member of the Committee, Annabel Brebner, is "Chair of the MCC Football Club". What is the MCC Football Club? (Soccer? An amateur football team separate from the MFC?)

Good. Now someone needs to make sure he doesn’t fold to the pressure of banning walk up seats for big games. The greater unwashed complain the mcg isn’t full for big games due to a bunch of seats at the top of the members being left empty. I say,  bad luck.

They are in the vafa, I don’t really understand it, the MCC has a great football division with men’s and women’s teams.

Couldn't agree more. Those seats have been paid for (many times over). That no-one happens to be sitting in them is irrelevant.

There’s also often thousands in the bar and lots of empty seats in the public they are just in 1’s or 2’s so harder to see. If they had their time again they’d change the top half of the top level to public seats but open up more of the ground level to mcc members. You’d then get more bums in seats from the same crowd.

Booking individual seats ruins the walk up culture that is a huge part of the club and makes Footy a mixing social experience not just an outing.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
