The gift that keeps on giving.

??????

Wow.  The star pulling power that Demonland has is impressive.  I noticed that Maxy also gave Demonland a bit of a shout out in his B&F speach.

That these players and officials of standing keep rocking up to give interviews is a real credit to the manner in which the moderators and administrators at Demonland run the forum.  Well done guys.

a big second from me on that post RBG !

Not a question but could you get @picket fence to conduct the interview?

I see Josh's role overseeing the football department mainly broken down in 4 areas: Coaching, medical/fitness, list management and culture. Shorting of asking Josh to explain his own role I have a number of questions based on what I think is important.

Coaching: Does the club have a kicking coach? If not why not?

Medical/fitness: Repeated foot injuries, what's the plan? Has it been reviewed?

List management: I don't have a question here, whilst I think there's still work to do I'd give the team a tick on this one!

Culture: How are the players, staff and fans embracing success and what's the plan to embrace it whilst not getting ahead of themselves?

Well done Demonland admins. As a suggestion can send J-Money the link to the Jesse Hogan Trading thread as prereading for the interview and for him to pick his favourite 'mean tweets' to read aloud during the podcast?

Please tell him to stay until we've at least won three flags. He seems like a bloody good footy boss.

Can you ask him if we even factored in Lever's ACL history when we asked for a trade with Adelaide last year, given that we overpaid so much, it would be interesting to know that a) Mahoney even knew about it, and b) whether it came up in negotiations with Adelaide. Cheers.

Can you ask him will we pick up delisted free agents this year?

I would like to know how driven he is. Been only through bad times as an assistant coach and until recently as a football manager. What does he want to achieve and how determined is he to do it? What's his vision for the club?

You must be pretty smart to think of that, why aren't you doing Josh's job.

Maybe a couple of questions about his playing career which seems one of perseverance. Undrafted originally, traded, delisted then drafted by Port with one of the last picks which led to the ultimate glory.

Seems a long time ago and it would be great to hear about his determination to succeed. How did it feel having a premiership medallion around his neck?

Oh wow, nice get. Lots of topics you could ask Josh about:

1) how he made the transition from coach (Bailey brought him here as an assistant) to administrator - I recall him saying at one stage he didn’t enjoy coaching as he thought he would or words to that effect.

2) A bit of his time as a player. He was a battler/journeyman type as a player.

3) Some general background on what happens in trade week - are some clubs as hard to deal with as they seem and can that be an obstruction to getting deals done?

4) some specifics from this trade week - did the club have a view that Jesse going was inevitable eventually? How long had we been courting May?

Great idea. Give a guest who is giving up his time to the fans for free a grilling as if you’re frigging A Current Affair. If you want the podcast to be unable to attract guests in the future, this would be a good place to start.

This is a good opportunity to get him to clarify things that aren’t clear or explain the process in making the decisions, but levelling the questions as accusations from an ignorant position would just make us look like morons.

It might be a slightly sensitive question to ask of Josh, given he was somewhat touted for the top job, but I'd genuinely be interested to know how things are settling in under new CEO Gary Pert.  Has been a pretty low key transition and not without some frenzied media style controversy, but we shouldn't walk on eggs shells forever and I think it's time that the MFC members and suporters get in behind Gary a bit more and give him our suport as we drive towards the ultimate sucess.

All great questions. This was at the top of my list.

I think to further expand on that question, I'd like to know how far in advance they start making enquiries about a player.  For example, I think we said that we had been monitoring May for a little while, so at what stage did they circle 2018 as the year to attack?

This could explain why sometimes they don't bring future picks in to the equation, as they are planning on making a play for someone else that following year.

Hope that makes sense!

Yes great question.

Is he staying at the Dees beyond 2019?

He apparently applied for the role as CEO only to be pipped by Pert. I've heard JM was PJ's choice.

Given that, I'd be interested to know how Mahoney, Pert and the Board are getting along.

Mahoney is one of the most important components of our success as a football club. I'd like him to be with us for the next 3 years at least

Free blood nose with that question?  As if he wouldn't have known.

I'd like some closure on the Gaff chase. If you could broach that with asking "did we withdraw because Gaff wasn't interested in the role Goodwin had envisaged for him" (as per ProDee input) and do we now have an eye on Josh Kelly.

I appreciate in advance that this will probably be flat batted but I hope he can give us fanatic's a little more than he did the media at the time.

Thanks

Did we?

2017 Pick 10 (which ended up being Lachie O'Brien) and 2018 pick 16 or 17, depending upon F/S and academy matching, for a guy rated as the best young intercept back in the country with exceptional leadership...

Do you even follow the game much?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
