That’s the rule, but it’s not the first time we’ve let bygones be bygones, there are a handful of posters active in this thread in the same boat. This incarnation is wearing pretty thin though, especially when he had the hide to tell Andy to make sure he was moderating fairly, given that rule and our generous application of it.

Had the weirdest dream that Hogan was the Bass player in my band and he told me he was joining another band after we did one last gig together.

That happened in a band I was in. And he (bass player, not Hogan) took the lead guitarist with him!

I'll never forgive him.

For those wondering how we are going to fill our list vacancies: if the Hogan trade goes down as mooted (May, Kolodjashnij and #23) we will have 7 vacancies and 7 draft picks between 23 and 91.

Options to fill vacancies:

  1. use the late picks to make rookies (Keilty and T Smith) senior players then replenish our rookie stocks in the rookie draft
  2. have a senior list of < 40 players (38 is the minimum)
  3. take delisted players, which don't require draft picks so some draft picks remain used.

If 3. the unused picks can be traded to a team needing draft points for a higher pick.  Pick trading can happen on Thur and Friday.  Then again during the draft as we have Live Pick Trading this year.

How many picks we take to the draft is yet to be seen but we have plenty of options to fill our list.

I think we are a big chance to go into 2019 with 38 or 39 on the senior list. There is just no point in bringing in 2 players in the ND when you could probably get them with more flexibility in the Rookie Draft.

I’d accept May, KK and 23 as a break even. What we do with 23 is up to the FD and I would back them to use it wisely.

Anything short of this would be a fail as far as I am concerned.

OK just for a moment stop to consider why we are trading, what is our goal?

If we think that replacing Hogan for May is a bad deal because Hogan is a better player we are missing the big picture. If we have 3 Hogans & no Mays and our aim is not to have the most talented side but to win premierships we do the deal.

So a win at the trade table means our side becomes better & we have a better chance to win a flag. If we can make our side better we do the deal, forget 23 & 30 vs 15 or 5 vs 8 & 11 or Hogan vs May KK 23. If Hogan out enables us to be better we win.

The bombers totally bent us over in the Melksham/Hibberd trades didn't they? And we got robbed trading up the draft to nab Oliver and Weideman. Plus Adelaide are riding high with those draft picks they acquired for an AA defender with born leadership qualities.

Have some faith for Christ's sake this administration has earnt it

After 383 pages thats the most sensible post i have read. Well said.

This is the result when nothing of note happens in the trade period.

Reporters just make stuff up!  https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-trade-whispers-young-fremantle-players-could-be-circuitbreakers-for-jesse-hogan-deal/news-story/6d5dbe87393d2fb06af54e56b7e89861

The excommunicated demon fan, Tom Morris hypothesises that a young gun Freo player might be part of the Hogan deal.  It is an embarrassing article as it is so obvious he made it up (par for the course I guess).

The other mechanism is trading future (2019) drafts picks for earlier picks this year.

I understand GC have more picks than they can use this year and mostly high picks,  but they need points for next year's academy players.

So 2019 1st rounder might get us overs in this year's draft when we have spots to fill.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
