On form, he's not worth a first round pick, let alone pick 5. He's not in the top 5 full backs in the league at present. He's been poor-average for the past 1-2 years. Most believe that's due to not wanting to be where he is now, but there's the chance he's just not capable of playing the way he did a few years ago.

If all we got for the best young key forward in a decade was an average full back and a token pick I'd be very disappointed.

must say that is my concern...

I'm big for trading Hogan for value but I don't see equivalent value in May and change.

The only way you can justify it is to say that Hogan going forward is not as important to us as he was perceived going into the 2018 season.

At the start of the 2018 season I firmly believed that Hogan at CHF had the ability a la Jack Riewoldt to win us a flag.

Am I going crazy but in what world is Lachie Neale worth more than Jesse Hogan?

Like seriously....

1 is a decent mid who is an accumulator who has happened to win 2 B & F's at a rabble club whilst never coming top 10 in the Brownlow.

the other is a 23 year old key forward who has the best numbers at this age as any key forward in the league. Once in a generation player. The thought that Freo will get Hogan & Change for Neale makes me want to spew.

I simply do not get it....

me either @GCDee

but it seems that this is where it sits

from my perspective i wanted 5 and 6 for hogan

instead we're losing him for...not a great deal

I think 5 & 11 is a very fair deal for both parties...

or 5 and a swap of future firsts...

Just feels like we aren't getting value here and looks like we are going to over pay for May.

Is there a chance if we get pick 5 we don’t bother with May, go to the draft & maybe get one of the King brothers?

Or see if another club will give up a gun player for pick 5?

so....you want to go to the draft to get a kid with possibly as high a go home factor as the one traded...then wait ....a few years for him to go back...all the whiles the "window " open ?

yeah.........nah....for me

Edit.( Thanks Billy for the correction  they are Vic ? )

Hopefully we can euthanise this thread soon.

On the contrary, if we hold on to Jesse now and repeat the same effort next year, we can easily surpass the No TS no BS thread for posts.

Aim high, we can do It !!

I would take pick 5 and offer it around for something like an 8 and a 14.  Or 8 and next year’s first. Give either to gc for May and kk, and still be back in the first round

You are correct..my apologies Billy.. got confused with others ( non twins as well lol )

Still a no though. All for drafting talent. But it's on ready to go I'd spend that 5 on.

Grant you you did suggest such, but May fills a big need.

I can't be stuffed going through all the pages - last I heard Freo had released a statement saying they weren't pursuing this anymore? Am I missing something?

I understand what you are saying, but it's too much of a simplistic view.

May is the best available defender on the market (given McGovern went to Carlton). A strong bodied mature defender is the biggest missing piece in our structure. It could very well be the difference between a premiership or just making up the numbers. I bet West Coast fans didn't go into the grand final thinking Barrass will win them a flag. May doesn't need to be the best defender in the league, have Lever for that, he needs to be strong, reliable, able to contend with bodies that Oscar simply can't, and free Lever to play an intercept role, one so vitally played by the likes of McGovern and Rance.

I don't want another kid on the list, I want to complete our team and win a flag. Hogan is surplus to our needs, we can win flags without him. We can't win flags without another good defender. May covers those needs, and if we win a flag with him in the side, I bet nobody here will give two craps about the picks we traded for him. Just like everyone quickly forgot the Lever trade when he was dominating prior to injury.

Fair point DJ.

Your comment about Riewoldt is also fair.

Some footballers can turn it around but many don't.

That's the dilemma with Hogan.

Unfortunately, its not about equivalent trade. I wish it was.

I agree that getting May for Hogan and another pick does not seem equitable.

However, Hogan has indicated a desire to return home and will not extend his contract beyond 2018, suggesting that if he does not go now, he will go in 12 months.

Like others, I would love for Hogan to stay but at the same time don't see the point of having him around only for another season when he has telegraphed his intentions.

Hogan returning for only one more season is the worst of all scenarios, unless you speculate that he will help win a flag in 2019.

So you go to the May trade scenario.  The Club obviously believes that is our best possible deal.

However, May is not of equivalent vale.

Its simply about getting the best trade possible and avoiding the predicament that Hogan stays for another season knowing that he is gone in 12  months.

You’re missing out on the therapeutic goodness to be gained from taking the opportunity to needlessly speculate, be outraged and wring one’s hands.

I'm a bit confused about all the wrist slashing.

Option One:  We trade Hogan to our advantage (as determined by the FD)

Option Two:  We keep Jesse who is an elite talent.

What's the problem?

The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
