If we lose Hogan, Kent, Vanders and Tyson and get May , Preuss and Kolojashnij in return then that is unders.

There has to be another big fish in the pipeline somewhere.

Hogan is two top ten picks, one goes to GC for May, we have an extra to trade or high pick from so called super draft!

Kent played 5-6 games for season, his 3rd or 4th round pick can go to GC for KK, who they said to go look for a trade, so can’t expect much in return.

Vanders played 5-6 games for season. We will get something extra in a trade for him, probably 3rd pick.

Tyson 17 and most weren’t great, looked rock bottom on confidence. He goes to North for Preuss, plus possibly a 3rd pick.

So we end up with a top ten pick and 1-2 extra 3rd round picks on top of May, Preuss and KK!

Still rather we keep Hogan!

The epic meltdown in the proceeding few pages based entirely on the events in one poster's imagination has really spiced this thread up.

I've been thinking since last year's Watts' thread that this site may have over-corrected with too many steady, middle-of-the-road inside posters. We could probably do with a good trade-week and some fresh injections to re-balance the Demonland list.

I think Freo are playing  hard ball with Neale so that pick is not actually on the table fr us to try to grab. They will let that trade go to the last minute. Why not? Suits their purposes to go slow but we, on the other hand, will need to act early if we want May. Probably means we will argue fr pick 5 and their next years first rounder.

I've always thought it was exactly that. It seemed to make sense back in the days when some clubs had state of the art training centres and others trained at the Junction Oval (cough), but now? Oh wow, you've got weights in your gym that aren't from the 1970s, and plaster board with no rat holes and... wait,  what's this? A rowing machine?! Oh my God, sign me up now!

I think it almost identical to what it was, meet the coaches and some key players, they try and convince you the game plan will be based around you and your skill set. This is where the club is going and we need you to get us there oh and here is $1.2m a year for you..

and look at this nice car park we have for you, along with the cool ice bath and the best dietitian in the West..

Barely fired a shot all year (even when he had a chance and knew we were a firm likelihood at finals) and seemed almost satisfied to avoid stepping up.  Instead satisfied to play out the remainder of season in the McGoos and allow others playing a similar role (Hannan & Spargo) to get a guernsey.

Had a few chances this year and not getting any younger / faster.  If we happily trade the likes of Vanders without a fight and instead hang on to the likes of Jeffy we have failed badly this draft.

Putting up a fight to keep a bloke away from his family who's father just died would not only be a fail for the club but a failure at humanity.

Hogan may have signed after his father passed away? Nevertheless he still has a 1 year on his contract & you could direct this at Freo also. Club is understanding if he wants to go home but need to be compensated  for a gun forward!

I was talking about Vanders, I would expect the club to offer him extras to make life easier for him if he was going to stay but not force him to stay if he wants to leave.

Rosco is not easy to work with I believe, not sure if Hogan has ever been barrelled by Roos or Goodwin who appeared to tread lightly around him, bet they locked Ross away when Hoges toured the “facilities”.

And as I've posted before, I think the Hogan trade is being driven by the club. Sign a contract now or move on. Which is entirely fair as Hogan has said he likes it at Melbourne and if he did sign a 2/4 year extension and things changed next year and he decided he wanted to go back to WA, then we trade him then.

This situation is easily solved....or easily explained.

Those that can't see this will continue to experience angst.

I have none. Good luck to all concerned..but better luck to us

Do you think we haven't already spoken to Freo, before we softened our stance on looking at a deal?

I'm going to have an exclusive. I'm going to be able to tell you all exactly what's going to happen with every trade. It will be 100% accurate. I've got the inside info straight from the people doing the deals. I can assure you anything you hear or read before then unless it comes from Mahoney is going to be total BS.

I'm going to disclose it at 8.30pm on 17 Oct. :)

And no I'm not the Trade Whisperer although a lot more accurate and useful.

Clubs learnt from the 2016 Gipps fiasco when both Adelaide and Carlton went public, dug their heals in and ended up with egg on face.

The process for a contracted player now is:

  • player talks to other club,
  • clubs talk to each other,
  • if deal can be done player announces request for trade.

All this happens behind closed doors.  If no deal can be done no player trade request.

Numerous trades in the pipeline right now are following that pattern.  A few examples:  Hogan, May, Vandenberg, Wingard, Neale, Shiel.

So, don't be fooled.  Contracted player will say nothing until clubs have things sorted.  In the meantime everything else is fugazzi!

Your going to have to do better than that to try to rattle me.

I’m not trying to rattle you mate. I don’t mind the abrasive nature of some of your posts as it just adds another layer of difference to this forum which can at times become a merry go round as evidenced by this thread.

But, there is a thing called hypocrisy that you may be familiar with. It exists quite a lot on this forum with some posters potting away at others and throwing barbs that actually add SFA value to the conversation but at the same time thinking they are. I get that you sometimes are fed up with the “hysterical nature” of this site which is your perception and that’s fine. I get bored reading it to be honest but it does seem to be your one wood in a golf bag that only carries a few clubs.

And by the way, it’s ‘you’re’ not your.

Keep posting big fella.

The more I think about it, if Freo will play hardball on Neale we are better asking for Freo's pick 5 (will be 6) and Freo's 2019 first round pick. There is likely to be some other swap of picks done.

Hopefully the next move would be for Carlton to offer up one of their 2nd round picks for Tyson.

We can then go to the Swans with this 2nd round and our 2019 first round pick to get a hold of their pick 13, potentially with swap of other picks etc to get the points right.

We would then trade pick 6 and probably a few other picks and swaps etc to get May.

Out: Hogan, 2018 Pick 6, Tyson, 2018 Pick 25.

In: May, 2018 Pick 13, 2019 Pick (likely 5-8 range)

Then let Taylor and co. go to work with those picks.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
