"There's a magpie in the Woodpile".   It should not be in there, causing us mischief.

The Pies wanted May, til they dropped out and had to resign Moore... around that same time, just before More's re-signing... it became fairly common knowledge that May wanted to come to us.

We were into Ed Langdon, but Freo started to send suitors away... enter Tom Langdon into trade conversations... and Freo became interested, according to rumours..

Eddie would like nothing moore than to swipe deWeide from us.

Weide's contract ends next year... and we have not yet re-signed him, as far as I'm aware.

Eddie will not have give up this year on May.  Or on Weideman.

We would be so stupid to trade Weideman unless Hogan signs on for 5 years.

Weideman is the future. Hogan is likely one foot out the door already.

West Coast?

I hope you are correct. But we still have a surplus of key forwards and a lack of key back man. Sadly Hogan won’t be the one who will resolve this situation for us.

We are an injury away from having too many forwards and Hogan has played defence as a junior.

I reckon we are fine in terms of how we handled it. I can only go by what is out in the public eye, but it sounds like Hogan instigated it, we supported it but said we are happy to keep him if the right offer doesn't come in, which it didn't.

I think the club, from what I can tell, has handled it superbly so far.

Agree, I think it's more likely to put him off Freo for being neither professional enough or valuing him highly enough just to get on with things and get the job done.  They seem to want something for nothing.  Pick 5 isn't enough for Neale, but Jessie, you're only worth pick 11 and below to us.

I recon that Jessie should be thinking do I want to play for a club that values me (think we traded two first rounders to get access to him in the first place didn't we?) and treats me proffesionally and with respect or a bunch of bloody muppets that couldn't make pis in a brewery?

This will get done, will be a hectic final day though

I'm tending towards this

As a WC person, I have stood back and laughed year after year as the mob in purple make silly trade after silly trade, paying way overs for anyone and anybody who wants to move (back) to WA. (I'll put a few at the end for anyone who wants a laugh) So this one has amazed me. Freo have actually said 'you're asking too much and if you won't budge then we'll walk away'. That is so un-freo like!

As someone who admires the direction MFC is taking and how you are going on and off the field, while I admire the determination, Hogan is not worth two first round picks. I'd spit chips if WC paid that.

By the way, good pickup in Pruess. This means there will be no respite in the ruck when playing Melbourne. Sort of like NicNat and Lycett when NN was fit.

A few Freo comedy trades. This is why I am stunned they didn't fall for the two first round picks demand -

In 1994, Adelaide convinced Fremantle to give them Andrew McLeod in exchange for Chris Groom. Melbourne convinced Fremantle to give them Jeff Farmer for Phil Gilbert. Essendon also engineered a deal that saw gun players Mathew Lloyd and Scott Lucas go to Bombers in exchange for Todd Ridely and Tony Delaney.

In 1995, Fremantle delisted Peter Bell, later picked up by Nth. Fremantle then decided they wanted him back so they exchanged their picks 6 and 8 in the 2000 draft to get him. In the superdraft of 2001, the club traded away the first pick that it could have used to acquire superstar Chris Judd or Luke Hodge. In return they got Trent Croad. Then gave him back a couple of years later for a bag of crisps.

In 2006 Collingwood convinced Fremantle to give its first pick, and Paul Medhurst, in exchange for Chris Tarrant. And so it goes on.

keep Jesse and let him have some fun and success at the same time in the Red & Blue..

""bathwater"..., getting ahead of ourselves already, before Pre-Season has even started.

We are now right back in the bunch... with all clubs.

Lets not sabotage our own 2019... even before pre-season, with expectations it will all fall in our Laps in 2019.

Right at this time it's hard to have any respect at all for Fremantle. The Age has reported that Fremantle assured Hogan's manager that pick 6 would be included in a deal for him and that was then promised to Melbourne. MFC may not have even entered into discussions if this was not promised. If this is the case they have gone back on their word to Jesse, they have stuffed everyone around. I find it hard to respect anyone like that.

I have some well placed contacts. This is as close to the truth as I’ve heard.

Multiple clubs, player managers, and players are now impacted by Freo’s decision.

Fremantle’s reputation is shredded.

This could work in our favour....

GC are desperate to get rid of May.  Now that we don't have the 1st rnd picks from freo, we could get May for unders.

Then freo come back into the fray. We then can land pick 5 and 23 for hogan and also get May.

Yeahhhh, righto.

Sorry, I wasn't suggesting we had handled it poorly. I simply meant that sometimes a clean break is needed and unfairly (from what we know) the MFC may end up collateral damage in this process in Hogan's mind.

I could be completely wrong, but it is a possibility.

If Adam Treloar, Bryce Gibbs are worth two first round picks.  Jesse Hogan is ? % worth two first rounders.  To say he isn’t is short sighted and clearly haven’t seen many of his games.

I see what you're saying now mate, and you may well be right. Let's hope it's not the case though and Jesse decides to stay long term!

you miss understood my post I think.  I don't want Weide to go.

But the Pies will be heavily invested in getting Weide from us.   Offering him all and sundry to leave us.

The pies can upset our salary cap space; with blocking the Hogan deal... and us wanting May, (we May not get him) then hurts us with cap space... beyond this year.

... hence Weides contract extension, next year.

With the Hogan deal falling through Freos hands because they don’t know how too catch!

I have a feeling the Dees and Suns will work something out for May! I think there intentions have been forthright in getting the deal done...

On 7News a reporter just said: "Freo have left Lobb in the lurch too. They have now offered pick 11 for Tim Kelly whose own manager doesn't like Fremantle and wants him to go to WC. An industry source saying what they're offering for Lobbe is a disgrace"

Wow they really are on fire ! Not very bright at all

Few things going through my head currently off the back of today

1) why would Freo have done the pick swap with Port just to bail on Hogan? Strange.

2) why would Freo say this 5 days out from deadline day? Surely they knew that our demands would be 2x first rounders from the beginning. Strange again

3) we should leak to the media that Jesse Hogan will sign a long term extension with Melbourne if the trade doesn’t go ahead

4) why would hogan want to go to Freo next year after how he’s currently being treated?

Are Fremantle just trying to pizz off every single person involved in the trade period?

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
