Absolutely wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Good.

Can't believe that some around here wouldn't back this FD by now.

Some could argue we paid too much in the Lever deal (not something I advocate), but sometimes you have to pay a bit when you're buying.

In the Jesse scenario, as a few posters have already mentioned, we hold the whip and Freo are doing the buying.

You watch. They'll pay two first rounders or he'll stay in Melbourne.

23 year Key Forward is worth 2 Top Picks.

Take it or leave it. A contract still stands at this point

"Yet the club is prepared to give a fringe ruckman a four-year deal."

What a load of crap. What is the connection? This is the sort of low caliber reporting that gives journalist the reputation that they seem to deserve.

1 We want two early fist round picks for Hogan if he wants to go home to WA.

2 We offer a ruckman a 4 year deal offering more game time than he gets at current club.

3 Journalist brains have been stolen by interplanetary travelers as a bit of a joke on the planet earth.

Therefore Damian Barrett will be Melbourne's new Ruck- Full Forward on a 9 year super $18million deal according to sources. Preuss returns to writing and Hogan receives huge offer to reprise role on TV series. FFS

It’s almost a case of how do you even critique such stupidity? Talk about a tenuous link.

“Melbourne wants two first round picks yet are willing to have cocoa pops for breakfast”.

It’s just been a very interesting feature of 90% of news articles on the Hogan trade story that the journos do not want Melbourne to receive decent compensation for the player. Here again a snide little backhander mentioning the irrelevant, unconnected detail of the four year offer to Preuss.

I very much doubt clubs like Hawthorn, Essendon or Collingwood would be written about this way, with the none too subtle put downs and “the poor child is getting a bit ahead of his station” mindset.

It’s good to see. Shows that the Demons are finally starting to rattle a few cages and put a few noses out of joint. Ie. We are at long last relevant again and it’s got the Establishment a bit worried!

Great to hear we demanded picks 5 & 6, too. It won’t be that in the end of course but you’ve got to set your markers high and talk tough in a trade of this nature. Freo are the ones who will end up looking right gooses if they can’t come up with a satisfactory price for the player. Tapped up the under contract key forward they’ve been chasing for five years, got their supporters hopes up by bring Hogan over to see their weights room, but then wouldn’t value him high enough to compensate his current club and it all fell through? Would be highly, highly embarrassing for them.

We’re talking about a Freo that finished a very disappointing 14th in 2018 and looks set to slide further into the bottom four while their cross town rivals sit high on the hog and dominate the competition. Make no mistake, Ross and a few others will come under some serious heat over there if the fortunes of the Purple Haze aren’t rapidly reversed.

They will pay up for Hogan. We just need to sit tight and occasionally talk tough. Might not exactly be 4 & 5 we end up getting, but they will pay up.

Melbourne the Third Best Club in the Competition will get what they want, as is our entitlement........

Aside: Hogan is in Bali primarily to surf. That means his foot is 100% or close to it.
Hogan may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he wouldn't risk a $million contract (from either club).

I agree SWYL, even though I don't think that will end up happening.

Would you be happy with a low first rounder (say, Pick 5), and a player like Brayshaw?  I see it as similar to the two first round picks, plus Brayshaw has already had a year in the system and shown he can play.

If we get Brayshaw the "Go and Get Gaff thread will take on a new meaning.

I’m interested to know why some posters think Pick 5 & Brayshaw would be a compromise option that would have appeal to Fremantle. Brayshaw was pick 2 for them, so in real terms you’re asking for picks 5 & 2 for Hogan (not to mention that the kid has already had a year in the system as you say). Where is the value there for Freo over picks 5 & 6?

Depends how they feel about picks.  If they want to hold on to one then they'll have to look at potentially moving a player or worth on, especially if we hold firm for two low picks.

Plus that doesn't take into account any further swap of picks (eg. Hogan and next years second rounder for their first this year and Brayshaw) or something along those lines.  I don't think it will be as cut and dried as Hogan for two picks or one pick and a player, as other picks may be involved in the deal.

I just can’t see them releasing Brayshaw or Cerra in a deal unless they’ve suddenly devalued one of them after seeing them perform at AFL level for one season. Both looked to be tracking pretty well to me for top five picks.

But you never know I guess. Of the two Cerra looks the pick. Almost no chance they’ll let him go.

freo trying to break the contract with Harley Bennell, which was signed in the last two months. this club is a ducking shambles

It is but if you can't see what Peter Bell is trying to do I suggest you looker harder.

Bell trying to keep Lachie Neale because Neale thinks the club is a shambles.

Bell taking the broom to the club and removing any 'iffy' components of bad culture. Bye bye Harley B.

Nat Fyfe is a questionable Captain - ask any Freo supporter.

Ross the boss has zero credits in the bank. I expect he won't see out the year as head coach.

Peter Bell might seem like a bit of a [censored] but the Freo faithful love him to bits and he will repay that faith.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
