The era we belong to thinks that way dc but the the current crop do not. It is all agents and communication by social media and  email. Face to face communication is the last option.

IMO sad but that is the way the world is in the 21st century.

The carrier pigeons fly faster and farther these days, and telegrams are also delivered within a few days

I think he has requested a trade to freo already before flying overseas, up to the clubs to sort it out now, both parties have agreed to keep things quiet. He'll go, just the negotiations and outcomes to follow.

100% this. Just hope we aren’t getting screwed over. I thought we overpaid for Lever, and I want us to get good compensation for losing the best young forward in the game!

My money would be on this scenario.

with so much up in the air and so much reported uncertainty, it strikes me as somewhat inappropriate to be holidaying in bali whilst the next possible 10 years of your life is decided.

i  know there are mobile phone services in bali but it's not quite the same

just some thoughts

Yes that’s what the club should start doing - act like his dad and tell him he cant have a holiday after a hard years work because some people online are wondering if he’s going or staying

The 16 weeks suspension and banned for life is an AFL Victoria rule and doesn’t apply to the AFL is my understanding.

Thanks. @RalphiusMaximus would've been more worried about the Lewis recruitment if it did apply

Pretty good comms these days and Bali is no further from Perth than Melbourne

It’s much closer actually. Roughly 90 mins flying time.

If this is true, we can all look forward to the obligatory interview (like Lynch yesterday) after signing streamed live from a Bali bar (or night club depending on the hour) beer in one hand, surfboard under one arm and a backpack full of cash. All while sporting a Dimmys knock off Freo jumper acquired from a local supplier.

Can you clarify - is it a site guideline that if one changes their username that one must indicate this in a sig block or in some other fashion? It's not addressed here: http://demonland.com/forums/guidelines/

I think it does matter because posters should own their posting history.  That said like @Nasher said I changed my username but it is pretty transparent.

Some of the best posters here like @Vogon Poetry and @ProDee have had various incarnations for various reasons but it's fine if it's transparent I think.

you know i'm not saying that, so why post such a contention. it's 1 specific week that's all

i know if it was me and if there was any chance of changing circumstances i'd want to be more available and involved.

but obviously if his mind is 100% made up, i suppose it doesn't matter, but there has been quite some discussion here that it might not be as black and white as 100% decided

Ageee with this, it makes the most sense. He’s toured the facilities and had a medical, it’s just going to come down to getting the deal done. I’m actually not so confident that one will get done this year.

I think the exact same thing but so many players do it for some reason.

Such is the footy world these days DD, I wouldn’t be surprised if he got fitted out with gear, photos and interviews pre recorded before he left overseas.

Uncontracted and restricted/unrestricted free agents are very different things.

An uncontracted player must be traded, either for picks, players or a combination of the two. If an agreement can't be reached then that player has to nominate for the draft and hope no other club picks him up.

A free agent can walk to the other club without a trade, however often the club they are leaving will receive a compensation pick from the AFL.

While your point that most players reach their destination is correct, the two types of contract situations are very different.

I understsnd the rules

My point is players have the freedom to move as they please.

The current rules allow clubs to dig their heels in but whats the point when a player is then uncontracted next yr and its easier for them to leave to their clibof choice. Ie tim.kelly and jesse

Sad but true I guess. I have tried to block that possibility from my thinking. Maybe Jesse is smarter than we give him credit for and he knows that either way, it is going to go down to the last minute and he will be back by then, ready to be directed to the correct change room for his presser.

Alternatviely, maybe he packed a reversible jumper made up for the presser.

triple ton? get it done lads and ladettes.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
