You can’t seriously compare Jesse Hogan to Tom Scully ...

Wasn’t comparing the player, just the scenario. Running into the Dockers club rooms, away from the media, just reminded me of Scully at the airport. I find it amusing how these players try to play the straight bat when everyone knows the outcome. Just be honest for Christ’s sake

There's having faith in the list management team and there's expecting a fair price, not mutually exclusive.

Not really that far removed ?

Honest and say what? Does Hogan have a contract in front of him from Freo to sign? Does Freo have a deal with Melbourne in place? If the answer to both of those question isn't yes then there's little for Hogan to be honest about. No comment is the best approach for now.

So your educated guess is that the outcome we will want is a pick we can use on May and perhaps a player such as another A. Brayshaw ?  Or Cerra ?

It's not possible for us to know PD.

I think that Langdon might be in the picture. I'm not convinced this is all Hogan driven so we might be more accommodating than people think.

But I don't think we'll trade him unless we get our outcome.

I mean really we're just having a bit of fun here. We've got no idea. What I love is we are aggressively trying to improve our list.

They may laugh and he still may go. He also might not. It is obviously something that will be raised. I am sure a few scenarios will be raised before the deal is done.

What does literally live in WA mean BTW?

As opposed to metaphorically

Jesse's underover work needs work!

Takes Dees backpack to Perth.

Doesn't change from airport clothes for visit to Freo Facilities.

My read is that he won't say yes to Freo deal Neale to Brisbane for Pick 4. Management would be aware Dees will be seeking 2 first rounders.

Club has pushed him out the door, ridiculous 30 metre wind up kicks for goals struggling to make the distance, poor body language, injury prone, leadership issues, like the share market, sell at a high, it’s over, we want you to stay bro but you know, do what’s best for you, like leave.

How would gaff and Brayshaw go first training session of pre season?

The fact they will be in different suburbs should make it easier

Many won’t like reading that, Blue. But an element of truth in what you’re saying. Don’t reckon we’re fighting that hard to keep him to be honest.

Club has seen an opportunity to sell stock at inflated value. And is duly taking it. Good on us.

Probably two of the most accurate posts on this thread so far

Well, I’ll be happy to be proven wrong, but looks like Hogan is out the door. Shame because he’s such a talent and it would have been nice to keep the group that saw the beginning of our rise together.

But, it is what it is, and now it’s time to look at how we can maximise this to our advantage.

Personally, I see Freo giving us their picks 4 and 5 as the most appropriate compensation, but they may give us 5 and 10.

If we are to receive picks 4 and 5, trade pick 5 to GC for May + KK and then use pick 4 in the draft to secure Izak Rankine. I saw someone post earlier that Port are right into him, but if the Hogan deal is done, we should be too. The kid looks a gun - speedy, agile, and a regular feature in the highlight reel.

check out these highlights from his 2017 and 2018 seasons. I saw on his Instagram he likes to sing as well - he can do duets with Robbo.

No not pushed out the door, more the case that he would not commit to an extension beyond 2019 so we are moving early as you say while the price is right. Not because he struggles for distance on kicks for heavens sake. You pass on a potential 60 goal a year key position forward at your own peril and certainly not for a gorilla marking backman a la Sam May by choice. I think the FD believe he is going if not this year, then next year.

I personally think the Suns should draft the king brothers and that way they have a reason to keep talent at their club. Both look like guns too.

the king bros will go much lower in the draft i think.. every club from interstate will be put off and some clubs like saints and dees will be put off by the idea of years of development needed for them.. i reckon they may fall to 10-15. rankine could be a surprise first pick. also bailey smith. the other vic kid touted as first is a bit vanilla for mine.. we could even get the vanilla kid at 5 and it would be a good addition, but not ZOMG amazing.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
