This is a question of curiosity. Why are so many prepared to put the player...before the club ??

Thats not to disrespect or dismiss the worth of anyone...but clubs win games/win premierships..  So says the great North Smith..and he knew a thing or two.  Maybe we listen to his words a bit more and the curse might lift ??

Im not the only one here suggesting a balanced reappraisal of his worth/position  to Melb is warranted.

These are professional footballers who whilst playing for a jumper are actually incredibly well remunerated.

He was brought in as the classic messiah /silver bullet type draft.  Getting him will fix everything.  He's but one player. At times very good, at others woeful in attitude. There may well be reasons for that but just like fitness..you cross that line  you better be focused....or go sort life out. Thats not said in nastiness...just maybe what some need to do..Other players have.

He struggles against better sides.. Arguably isnt helped by some coaching/selection  but what is..is. If he get nullified in games where his real footy ability would be real handy..what value that ??

Im not opposed to playing him down back @binman will recall we discussed this exact notion in other thread  only to be howled down by those ...you know...know it alls!!

I dont think he's ideal as a mid either...smart yes...slow to react at times.. that burns play. Hes a very talented footballer...i just dont know what his position is now at Melbourne.  Too many better coaches have figured him out.  Ours needs to too  and quickly .

Cant agree more.

Well Dr they should revoke your accreditation, i wouldn't even contemplate it then. Cerra? what has he done? and a first rounder, your kidding right.

Were talking about a Key position fwd here. Kicked 47 goals in 20 games and playing sore after the break

We gave up 2 1st round picks for Lever, Hogan is in his early 20's why wouldn't we ask for that.

He's suggesting what you're advocating.

Cerra was pick 5 and will be a gun plus a first rounder is the equivalent of two first rounders.  Actually, in my view it's better, because Cerra has already shown what he'll be.

That said, I want Hogan to stay and suspect he will.

Hard not to be Old Dee if you have been a Dee supporter for as long as both of us have been.

A long sales life dealing with a large number of companies both large and small has shown me that less than 20% are run by honest straight shooters.

The rest are less than honest in their dealings, the bigger they get the more dishonest they get.

Sadly that is my experience.

Freo trade half their midfield to get Hogan then have nobody to kick the ball to him meaning he would need to play midfield.....right. I think Freo need to get over their obsession with OUR player and worry about building a half reasonable football team.

According to Jon Ralph who spoke to Jesse’s Manager, he is going nowhere. Loves the club and players, just got his licence and happier than he has ever been in Melbourne.

Think we can put speculation to bed .

Believe me, nothing would make me happier if the hulk came out and signed a long term deal and put all this BS to bed. It would have to be a unprecedented, holy grail type offer to even consider trading.

Paywall but I think I get the jist of it.

Just says he is happy in Melbourne and has no interest in going to Freo who are rebuilding.

I still think he needs to sign an extension in the off season.  Surely he nor us needs another contract circus next year.

I understand that Melbourne supporters are disorientated by finals, but guys, we are actually playing finals. Can we stop talking about hypothetical and frankly idiotic trades, and actually enjoy FINALS?!

You have plenty of time to talk trades after finals.

FINALS!!!!!

Actually it may help us as a distraction... (the supporters).

And help the players, as WE do not leave them under too much focus... so lets keep on talking trade atmo, until after the Elim' final is over with.

After that week we can shift the eyes up a little.

Rest assured, the players will be focused on this coming match.  And probably benefit from us not scrutinising them too closely.

Oh man. How has no-one said this...

Remember years ago when we were desperate for Judd to choose us over Carlton? Feels exactly the same.

Honestly, I love the rumours about Jesse leaving. Just keep the WA fans praying while we feast on what he produces for the next ten years.

A trade of Hogan ,though possibly unlikely , is however possible. The seeds have been around since he began his AFL career.

There are many aspects to this. One I find bemusing is the dismissal , abjectly, of an offer that has yet to be tabled. Yes talks do go on out in the 'non-official' world. Often theyre to gauge the market. But like a real estate auction is often doesn't get real ( or even start ) til it's almost over .

Of course no one is going to say anything other than a straight-bat reply.

Nothing may eventuate but the merits and such are still valid questions.

May the righteous bang their drums ( gives them something to play with )

The seeds are there because people decide they are there.  Clearly the bloke loves being at the club and loves living in Melbourne.  The seeds are planted by those who need something to write about.  Outside of signing another deal, what else does he need to do?

This 'anything is possible' stuff to justify you continuing to waffle on about it is rubbish.  If anything is possible, then why not start a thread on every player leaving because, you know, anything is possible.  It's tripe.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
