Probably using the same pocket calculator they used when finalising Kurt Tippett's contract.

Must say that when you have regard to the various "no access" memberships offered by all the clubs the membership figures are all a bit flaky. Time for some transparency perhaps.

I'm sure any sponsor worth their salt has access to the detailed membership breakdown.

I was a little shocked to get a paper membership card this year as a premium member!  This is the first year in memory it is not plastic.  The club gone cheap this year?

Mines the usual plastic.

As is mine! ? (Time now for every Demonlanders to join up a mate! We are ahead of St Kilda, Bulldogs, North, but we shouldn’t be satisfied until our numbers eclipse the other ‘Melbourne-based’ teams, especially Carlton!)

Note: every Demonlander knows at least one so-called ‘supporter’ who is too lousy to take out a membership. Let Melbourne be awash with ‘red & blue’ scarves in 2019!

Might be temporary Soidee,  seems odd?  Mine too is the usual plastic as a few others have already mentioned .

Thanks people, I contacted the club.  They advised it is a printing problem and will rectify with the manufacturer.  Poor effort by the manufacturer and wonder if this is a wider problem.  The club must be annoyed getting a batch of these paper membership cards.

Easier to tear up should things go pear-shaped.

3,200 up on last year is a good result so far!

For those yet to renew, I just saw this on club website:

Renew by Friday 22nd March and be in the draw to WIN

You could WIN:
- Return flights and accommodation for 2 people to our Round 18 game in Alice Springs
- 2 x Tickets to attend Round 18 in the Territory Lounge
- 2 x Post-match access Change room passes for Round 18
- VIP training experience in Alice Springs

It might help the cause if the club put that in a story on the Home page rather than buried in a tab on the 'Membership' page.

Membership is now 37,856 - 4,500 up on same time last year and 7,200 to break last year's record.

And 12,200 to get to the magic 50,000 members!  I reckon we can do it, especially if the MCC/MFC campaign goes well!

10% plus up on this time last year is a great result.

I am curious as to why around 20% of memberships are bought mid season or later

You are probably right but it doesn't really help these days with finals tickets

Other than the GF most other finals are not sell outs and you need a premium membership (which in the main are already sold out) to guarantee a GF ticket

You sound surprised DD just Human nature. A reasonably large number of the sporting public like winners and only follow winners.

I don't hang it on anyone for NOT buying a membership. More to life than footy. Much more.

We should be gracious and thankful for those that do.  ... whenever they do

Some need to seriously pull their heads in.

I reckon 55k is possible if we come out breathing fire and are top 2 mid season

I have level one reserved seat with Guaranteed GFT, you no longer need the top memberships.

Well, we are not Richmond supporters, so we don't need one of those cheap plastic microwavable ones.  The paper version's will burn much better in the Mt Bulla ski lodge fire places.

That all said, perhaps this is a tactical move on behalf of the club.  The sacrificial membership card microwaving seemed to be just the tonic to bring on a Tigers premiership, so perhaps someone should organise a mid season bonfire of MFC membership cards?

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
