People getting excited on here about Harmes is great. I wanna see a few seasoned posters break it down though, how good he's been, why and in what ways...

He was Ablett like today. Viney, Harmes and ANB as the negating forward... Against Danger, Ablett and Selwood. Viney-Selwood, ANB on Danger when he's forward and Harmes on Ablett all day.

It was Richmond-like, the way we stifled them. GWS would get possession and then hold it up because there was nothing on, time and again.

Maybe that article by Gleeson in The Age that spelled out our defensive deficiencies in embarrassing detail, woke up our coaches? Hope not but the timing is some coincidence. Two weeks in a row where our frailty is nowhere in sight.

So two very good scalps on our belt, running into the pointy end of the season on high octane fuel and with a few teams between us and the cup that we owe some payback to. "Survivor AFL: September edition" is shaping up as a blockbuster.

I never even saw 1 GWS fan all day, both inside or outside the ground. I couldnt get over the absolute silence when they kicked a goal.

If you watched on TV you would have heard a loud roar whenever they kicked a goal.  Directional mike pointed at their 15 person cheer squad works wonders.

We were at the opposite end Sue. You could see the flags waving but that was all. You knew if they got a point, there was a lot of noise, all from Melbourne supporters! Ridiculous fantasy club from the afl.

Not anymore.

He was at North Melbourne but left at the end of last year.

Next week, can you scream "Kick straight, Tracc!" a dozen times? Or even 6 would do.

I thought this was as good as we've played all year. GWS despite their injuries are one of the form teams of the last 10 weeks and we made them look ordinary. 

We played with a hardness I haven't seen from a Melbourne team in decades and I'd go as far as saying there is no harder more physical team in the comp. 

We played almost arrogant,  dare I say it,  finals football today. 

Every team will fear playing us,  we are a seriously dangerous outfit peaking at the business end of the season 

The Trade Whisperer  @Ethan Tremblay    is quietly furious we are playing finals as it has delayed the opening of the Drafts and Trading sub forum, where he does his best work!

And it's great to see Weideman growing in confidence with each passing week.  Watching him clunk those marks, provide a tough contest when in the ruck and then slot a last quarter goal was awesome.

Really noticable that we had some behind the ball and it's press was less extreme

I can't remember the last time I saw us physically dominate a quality side as the boys did today.

The Giants were dangerous while they could get their chip, chip, run and long kick game going. They have some great athletes. But it was our pressure and legitimate physical attack on the body and the ball that put us on top.

Absolutely brilliant and terrific to see the Weid begin to deliver. He is an alternate ruck the like of which we have not had for years, takes a nice grab and as we knew - and saw - is a superb kick. Spargo too is under rated here...his goal assists today were crucial. But he does have to do some work on his deliberate shots.

A really enjoyable game. Just wonderful to see Harmes and Vanders go to work. It really does seem anything might be possible, at least in the next few years if not this one.

Talking old days here dieter. I opened batting for Box Hill against Geelong in a Sub District game at Kardinia Park back then we used to stay over night and make a weekend on the P. Mum used to listen the cricket on 3GL

Oh guys, another contested win!! And I won the office footy tipping comp bc my beloved Dee's won today!! Cannot believe it!

A long time since I have felt like I do tonight: relaxed. Yes - a Melbourne supporter relaxed. Strange but beautiful feeling. 

I cannot believe the development of Harmes. I actually had him in the "consider for delisting"  category at the start of the season. Couldn't see any strengths emerging and he had the football appeal of bluetak. But wow - am I ever glad to be wrong. Fierce, runs both ways, has developed a lethally accurate kick and he has the footy nouse to stifle the opposition's best player.

So glad to see Weed play the way he is. Unlike my earlier view of Harmes I have always believed in this kid. 

And my man Brayshaw. He is our key to moving the ball through the corridor. His gut runs away from trouble through the middle of the ground are my favourite part of our game. Star.

Agree. And thar has to be put down to good coaching. Credit where due. 

Some of the decisions around passing (unfortunately execution can still let the down) has been first class. Great example was harmes to kent last week. Spargo to vdb today was another.
