Danny Hughes

Now I know everyone will hate me for this but I was just watching highlights of the NAB cup game against the Doggies last year but from I saw first footage of Danny Hughes I was mighty impressed! Yhe guy reminded me of the young Cameron Bruce back in 2000. Very skilled and knows where the ball is and has a good leap. His skill level was still fantastic in the wet. I'm jumping on the Danny Hughes bandwagon this year! I'm tipping he will be the one promoted this year. I hope he can turn into a very good player like our Cam has.

PS Jace Bode looked rubbish.

Danny Hughes and Jace Bode both played 15-20 games each for Sandringham, so surely you can form an opinion on the evidence presented in these games more constructively than you can one Escort Cup game. Remember, Andre Gianfagna also looked like a 'superstar' in that game, and he barely played a Sandringham senior game after that.

Hughes reminds me somewhat of a more skilled and slightly bigger bodied Cam Hunter, he looks good for Sandringham, but would get slaughtered because of his body shape in the AFL. He'd have to have an absolutely stunning season for them to be promoted onto our senior list.

Danny Hughes & the Escort Cup.

Wasn't he the winning skipper in 1987

Hehe, he sure was! Me and a few mates are having a DVD night this Friday to relive that match

in its entirety now its available on DVD from the club. To think that was 20 years ago is staggering,

I remember it like it was yesterday! I think it was called the Panasonic Cup by that stage...

This is a big year for Danny. Bode, Neaves and he are all second year rookies and will need to be promoted onto the senior list to be retained. Neaves is a monty to be retained, and as AFL socialism requires at least three draftees, Danny will need MFC to delist five players, at least, for him to be retained.

As this means six for Bode and from what little I know of him, this means he is on very shaky ground.

Danny needs to kick on this year; It is now or never.

I think you can be rookied for 3 years now but I agree that would only be exercised in special circumstances.

The only thing Bode achieved last year was getting rubbed out for a week for Sandringham.

Looked like a fish out of water in that Darwin NAB Cup game and haven't heard any positive feedback about him at training or in the VFL.

Would have to turn it around something chronic to get elevated on the senior list you'd think.

I find Bode puzzling. He came to the club as rated to be picked in the draft (reasonably early...30s?) and with a rep as a state level 200m runner. He loooked hopeless in the NAB cup last year, making it understandable why he was overlooked. After a long season he makes a bit of progress and gets some gigs in the Sandy ones toward year's end (like Buckley). I then read he runs like a crab and later is in BB's project group along with Dunn et al to improve their running techniques and ultimately speed and mobility. It's quite odd.

Nevertheless he's got another year to develop and improve so good luck to him. The rookie list is giving him the time he obviously needs.... he's certainly got his work cut out for him.

That got me last year too because I've seen plenty of athletes and particularly 100 and 200m sprinters and Bode didn't look like one on the football field last year. I don't know if he had a problem like OP but if he did that might be the explanation.

Hughes can seriously play. He was the unluckiest bloke to dropped for the VFL grand final. Look out this year he will fire.

He would have to be favorite to be promoted to the senior list should it become available.

GO HUGHES GO!!!

Apparently he did pretty well. He hit Yze with a pass that had to be 100% spot on cos it was very risky, but he hit perfectly.

Demonlanders, i think we might find that the fellow writing these 2 posts is none other than Danny himself or a close friend. Look at the name of the fella, "Demon38". Isn't that funny how Danny Hughes also wears 38. SPOOKY!

I am not Danny Hughes, I follow Sandringham and I have been keeping an eye on the bloke from when he was kicking goals in the 2's. I rate the kid. There were a few in the 2's that had/have a load of potential.

No disrespect demon38. We're just taking the [censored]. And no disrespect for Danny either.

But geez that would be funny if a rookie came on here to pump himself up or alter supporter relations. Someone like Newton coming on trying to get everyone to call him Juice. Or Miller coming on to start a blue with Freak. Or chopper coming on to.... well... actually, I dunno that he'd have much to say.

I know a few months ago someone over at 'ology I think found out Colin Garland was a member of bigfooty, and bagged out the skipper!

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
