Port are pretty bad.  You'd have to be a shocking side to drop a game to them.  ?

But seriously, with the amount of talent they have on the park, there's no way they should be this bad.  They have absolutely no confidence and their defensive zone is being torn apart by the bombers' pace.

Interesting to see how well Francisis playing given nobody wanted to touch him this time last year.

Also interesting to see Watts.  He's gone backwards this year.  Zero contested work, not even close to winning his own ball.  He has however been good when others get the ball to him.

Very average Fri night game. I suppose both teams have their minds on Bali and a are in self preservation mode

How did we lose to this rabble.....pfft.

He’s got a decent handball I guess..

Long going on about a good sign for Essenscum and how they have won 5of 6 outside of Victoria and it bodes well for the future, nice to heat considering we have won I think 6 of 7 outside the big V

Best thing McAvaney has said all year.

The 8 is set!!!!! Yeeehhhhaaaaaa

I was pleasantly surprised with Essendon ruining Port's finals chance!

I personally don't give a crap who we lost to. We're in finals baby and nothing that happened in the last 12 years matters anymore.

And some people were entertaining the possibility of BJ coming to us...

S**t bloke of the highest order.

Well, after all that, we would've made finals regardless of losing our last 3 matches.

Guess the egg is well and truly on my face. ?

In the finals last year when port lost all the talk was that they needed to get competitors who would fight to win. Who did they get? Some of the biggest front runners in the comp.

I’m sure a fair few on here would know I was a Watts fan and a part of me is still sad he’s not at the club for this moment of joy but even I know that he was a downhill skier that mostly only performed well when the team was doing well. He’s not the guy that’ll chase a player down chasing him for 20m.

Port made their competitiveness problem worse by their recruiting.

We lost to Port because we failed to take our chances and were dogged by some woeful umpiring. Like a few others this year we found way to lose to Port rather than them finding a way to win.

No one more deserving of not playing in a premiership.

I'm more into rivals-watch so the game tonight wasn't on the radar.  Zero interest.

The Cats aren't losing tomorrow so that's another no-watch ... so then it's twilight time but the Pies will almost certainly win so let's face it,  we're playing for 5th spot on Sunday.  But you never know.

A win on Sunday probably means we'll probably play Geelong for the right to play the loser of 1st vs 4th ... which would be Hawks/Syd/Rich unless Collingwood find a way to lose tomorrow.

Lose Sunday and we possibly finish 8th (if the Cats absolutely smash the Suns) but that would put us in the same scenario as is we finish 5th.  So we're back to the 5th or 8th outcome - except we'd be the away side finish 8th.

But does home or away matter if you're good enough to win anywhere?

I am truly shocked, what a twist, this wasn’t how Goddard’s Bombers movie was supposed to finish.

Bam! ?

Just cam home from the game and it was a borefest, very average team Port. If only we smashed them we had the chance.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
