It’s time for Jones to really think about retirement.

Captains must stand up and show the way.

At Training and on Game Day

that’s the credentials of a Captain...

.

Jones is a leader, but he's a bottom 8 team, leader.

He's the leader for a down out team that needs to climb thru honest hard work, and battling on.

He isn't skilled enough,,, in our skill-poor side.

He has been overtaken well and truly by Harmes and Salem, as a player.

Its time to look to the trade tables. seriously... Jones, Hogan, Petracca.

For what we can get for these players, and spend on others like maybe Lynch, May, and the draft.

Simon Goodwin, i remain unconvinced

If you're still unconvinced after 42 games, i think that says it all SWYL.

I'm dirty on this loss, but I'll let the rest of the usual suspects lose the plot, slash their wrists and do the usual ranting and raving.  Seriously, go right ahead.

We lost this game today in front of goal.  Sure, they cut us up during periods of the game with their use by foot and our willingness to allow them space.  But we should never have let them win this game of footy.  When Hogan goaled and we were 3.7 it should have been 7.3, as we missed a slew of easy shots.  If we were 6 goals up then they would have been dead and buried.  But they weren't, they got a sniff and, as experienced sides do, they made their chances count when we didn't and we couldn't haul them back.

I must admit that I was bemused at times by some of our decision making, and the implied pressure of the Swans meant that we rushed things at times when we didn't need to.  We had every opportunity to win this game of footy, but we didn't make it count, and that's down to composure and skill execution under pressure.  It's not down to leadership and all that stuff.  We just didn't execute well under pressure.

We certainly lacked some class at times and too many players went missing, but this isn't the end of the world.  Seriously, it's not.  We've got two games to go - win one and we're in.  Simple as that.

At least you’re articulate.

But so what if we get into the finals?

We’ll go out in round one.

Kick straight and we win. Bad kicking is bad football, no doubt, but outside of the second half of the second term we were generally a better side.

It's as simple as that.

I’ve heard this before. We could be second on the ladder. Instead we may not make the 8. It’s as simple as that.

I don’t care for should haves and could haves. I deal in facts. The fact is we are staring at 2 wasted seasons under Goodwin. This was the “easiest” of the next 3 matches and we blew it. Forget bad goal kicking, we shat our pants under pressure. We fell apart. There are no more excuses.

Petracca needs to be looked at as a trade option. Colin Sylvia 2.0.

Any game will be the breakout for the best 8 years.

Ah. Gotcha.

12 goals in 2 quarters to a team that struggles to score. Our problems in defence were born in the Paul Roos legacy protection era. Putting 18 men behind the ball doesn't help the individuals learn how to defend. Yeah it mitigates the damage but we have a group who do not know how to react to the contest in the back half.

Positive out of the last quarter was that we didn't let our percentage get smashed. 13 wins should still make it.

Jezus calm down. Was one of the game's leading ballwinners and was killing them until his ankle went bad. Came back on and played on one leg, as he has been doing for 6 weeks now. There's about 17 other MFC players who deserve abuse more than him.

And two second rounders? You're having a laugh.

You have dyslexia bloke? I clearly said 2 FIRST rounders.

If they offered that, considering how high those picks would be, i would take it.

Jones is finished at AFL level

He has never performed well against good sides

Or around the arc...if you cant find a target inside go around and at least retain possession.  The rated clubs do this.

We are far too predictable in so many ways once the ball passed mid field

Exactly, we stuff up in  the area between 80Mtrs and 40Mtrs, from goal.

We get a rush of blood to the head, under pressure,,,, once we cross the centreline.

We should try and squeeze all the currency out of J.Hunt that he has and try and get back into the first round.  He’s like the bloke from Mighty ducks, all speed and no idea.  Cannot hit the side of a barn.  SHow other clubs his 2016 high light package

He looked like he injured his ankle again today.

0-5 in games decided by 10 points or less

Very important stat right there.

We fold under pressure of every kind. On the ball pressure, perceived pressure, the pressure of expectation. With Lewis being here now for his 3rd season I thought we might have moved on but we have not.

Not wanting to drop players because of one bad game, but there are a few who consistently crumple under pressure - Jeffy, Salem, JKH Hogan (not all the time but often enough, and usually in front of goal).

Ran around on his own all day not making most contests trying to get easy possessions.

Swans were very good tonight, took their chances (bounce) and played team football.

Aside from our atrocious kicking, we held on for some time.

Ultimately, we failed, across the board, senior players that you’d expect consistensy from, never delivered.

2019 my friends!.....

Was always going to be a losing battle with Goodwin vs longmire in the boxes.

So many mediocre players on this list and lack of leadership and class is astonishing to me.

Hogan should be ashamed.

Vanders and pedo are barely vfl standard.

Mentally weak club!

9 point loss, how many points did we kick from simple shots? Not on the coaches.

Terrible composure, older players were really poor and you can only rely on the young blokes for so long.

The Pedersen selection is one of the worst I have ever seen.  He is not a backman, never was, never will be.

And yes I questioned it Thursday night too.

I’m sure if people could be bothered trawling through your posts you had said this once teams were announced.

Really. It is over. Just leave the sleeping dog asleep. We will finish 9-11th. Simple!

You can have a sook if you want. I'm going to keep expecting us to have a dip. Playing any finals at all is crucial for this list, as they're built for 2019-2021. Whereas missing could be extremely harmful to their psyches, and to certain players' futures at the club.

I wish i felt otherwise DD, but the repeat cycle has not changed against any decent opponent

It's so sad when the highlight of the last decade as Melb supporters is seeing a jackovich interview on a Thursday night.

This new generation of players give us nothing. It's shameful.

Soft underbelly

Front runners

Bathwater

No leaders

Poor kicking into 50

Worst defence

Laziness

Swans 2 players down most of the game

Aliir.....

Skill errors

Goodwins tactical nous

Jones MIA again when heat is on

in Melk, Out Spargo.

Yips, 36% accuracy

Lazy running

Umpires?

+17 i50's, Swans only had 43!

There are times when a zone works and it doesn't work when teams chip it around and weave through the puzzle like Swans and Hawks. Goodwin should know this by now, go man on man. I always thought the Swans were a threat all along, still some fight in the old boxer yet. Jones, well, once again missing, his kicking is putrid and he looks so lazy and disinterested. While we had a shocker in front of goal, I'm glad Buddy did too.

I think we'll beat WCE but we are a weak club who haven't beaten anyone of importance all year, that's the facts, not the spin. Swans wanted to play finals a lot more.

All the best to Alex Johnson, heartbreaking story.

People may disagree with me because it would have made us very tall but how about PICKING PLAYERS THAT ARE IN FORM

Keilty would have been risky, but you know what he brings, FORM AND ACTUALLY ATTACKS THE CONTEST

And if him down back wasn't working, you know what would have? THROWING HIM FORWARD WHERE HE AN ACTUALLY KICK A GOAL

Yes, probably a bad decision and I'm a little drunk and emotional but damn. Pick players that are in form. Wagner would've been better then Hunt.

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
