6. Oliver - just wow. He must have a really sore back... From carrying the team so many times. 25 contested possessions and clearances, tackles quality disposals galore.

5. Gawn - dominated a quality ruck opponent in Sauce Jacobs

4. ANB - ran all day to support and pressure, tackles galore - stepped up big time. Can be much maligned by us Demonlanders (incl myself) but played a great game - no wonder he gets picked every week - easily ahead of Tyson in my books

3. Harmes - ripper lockdown job and racked up possessions too

2. Lewis - 2 crucial goals in clutch moments, great game overall

1. T Mac - awesome presence, great conversion

Apologies to Brayshaw, Petracca

6 Oliver - forget the rating in the HS today, that was done by a SA reporter. Three more Brownlow votes and Gawny should now feel worried he may not receive the Bluey medal.

5 Neal-Bullen - yes and I am surprised that there are no written apologies here already from those who have been wanting him out of the side the whole year. Vision and intense pressure - a couple of errant kicks away from BOG.

4 Jordy - Yes I know I reckon he's too slow, but the Crows are the only side in the comp still dishing up big slow forwards and that meant he wasn't exposed. As a result what was exposed was his kicking skills - two rippers from 50m out that kept us ticking.

3 Tracca - Another game where his imposing frame influenced every contest he was involved in. Bring on September.

2 Tyson - it was a bad night for us DLers. Another whipping boy stands out and a few of his handball gives were Oliveresque. Further to that it seemed he again had to play outside and work his way into the contests.

1 JKH - Ok, at least I will apologise. His best game since that fateful day at AAMI Stadium five years ago when we all thought we'd snaffled a superstar. The spark in the third quarter and a running man for much of the night. He probably just cost Baker his debut game this year.

In hindsight I probably should have given Harmes more votes.

To keep Sloan to 17 possessions (while getting 23 himself) all with a broken hand was huge.

TMAC was my NO. 5. My spectacles must have been foggy, again. Sorry

Honorable mentions to O Mac and Jetta. The defenders did a great job, given that when Joel Smith is on the ground his game immaturity shows. (Yes, I'm trying to be polite.)

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
