Not shifting Frost on to Hawkins earlier was a mistake

But everyone here (except maybe STMJ) said Oscar was going to be AA this year What a far king joke.

Wrong game. Wrong forum. Wrong.

Winning IS everything. It’s because it is everything, that we have been nothing for 5 decades.

You'll have alot of pain in your life if you believe that.

"Wrong forum", what are you on about? Are you tying to shut me up. Please don't bully me.

Many teams in this world have "nothing".

We are one of them.

Go Dees.

Yes, that was a knee in the back (or hip).   Goody is turning him into a 'neither here nor there' player though Wise by playing him up the field far too often.  He's becoming average (and sometimes sub par) at both, with the odd (but far to seldom) fine performance up forward (and on the scoreboard).

Only send him back or up the field when parking the bus in last few minutes of quarters or if we are a mid fielder down through injury on the bench.  Otherwise he needs to impact and score goals more often as a KPF.  Bring the ball to ground more often also for the small crumbers nearer the goals.  Just my opinion but i think this strategy from Goody is costing us in some of the big games and the close ones, like tonight, the first match against the Cats and the Port match to name a few.

Hogan is told, and like all good players, to take most of his marks from the front. When you run into a dirty, old bunch of has beens like cats, when a good young player tries to play in front, with no protection from a maggot he will get kneed and scraped all the time.

He is still learning the trade and will develop his engine.

I'll wait patiently for you to bring up the posts that suggested Oscar would be AA this year.

If those exist, the posters should be ashamed.  I'm a fan, but AA?  Nah.

If they don't then you're just being sensationalist.

Viney and TMac were out for the first 5-6 weeks. Between them coming back and the Fremantle game, our only injuries were Hunt (who wasn't playing seniors at the time anyway) and Lever.

Since the Fremantle game we've had Stretch, Viney, Hibberd in two weeks. So it's all falling apart but we lost games to Port and St Kilda when we had everyone we wanted available to play except Lever and Hunt.

But regardless, you're right, we're not alone. Other than Richmond (and they're copping it a bit now) every other competitor of ours for the top 8 has had injuries this year at least as much as we have, if not more. I just don't think we can use injuries as any sort of excuse.

Cmon mate the only excuse is mental toughness!

This camp they opted out needs to be questioned as why the players had so much say.

No, I’m merely suggesting that you’re on the wrong forum if you think anyone agrees with you that winning isn’t everything.

In life it may not be, but in football, it is.

If you’re not playing to win, then what the hell are you doing?

How many opportunities does Melbourne need to put a side away?

How many lessons does  this team have to learn?

Have we got what it takes?

Am I wasting  my time?

I don't know.

I will think about it tomorrow.

Maybe not.

Unfortunately I was at the game. JKH was terrible. The scar can’t compete one on one with big defenders. We should have had two or more flying for marks with Hawkins every time, like they did with Hogan. It wasn't just Hawkins though. Of course, he marked it and kicked the goals but their midfield lifted and was feeding him the ball while our midfield just stopped dead. Taking Gawn off partly led to this.

Had a family dinner so could only get back home with 5 minutes left in the 3rd.

Amazed to see McDonald on Hawkins. I thought Frost would have been a shoe in. Cost us 3 goals. This loss is on the coaches.

As promised in the game day thread, I said if we lose and Hawkins is the reason - then im out for 2018.

So this is me signing off for 2018. Membership is in the drawer and im not wasting another second of the year on this club anymore.

Sad thing is we dont even have the draft to look forward too - we [censored] that away as well.

See you in 2019. Maybe.

Good F off - barrack for someone else !

Agreed. Stood up well.

I’m no apologist. Just don’t rant at a young team and dump years of disappointment on them. We made some stupid mistakes but literally everything went right for Geelong in the last right down to Max’s blood rule. We’ll win the 4 of the last 5 and pump the Cats in the first week of the finals. It’s all set up now.

Mate, I'd love to believe this. I really would. But I just can't do it to myself after what happened last year. Getting my hopes up only to experience gutwrenching disappointment is infused in the MFC's DNA. I'm just about done enabling it.

My health is literally suffering as a result. It's a fine line between being obsessed about loving your club and having your life revolve around it to the point of misery. I had to walk out of a party and sit in isolation tonight after Geelong kicked 5 in a row to start that final quarter because I knew exactly what was coming. Why should I put myself through such embarrassing anxiety?

And of all the [censored] teams, Geelong. Only Essendon would be worse to lose to, honestly.

Can you explain the plan to us pls?

The plan is to be good enough to beat 2 teams in each round, we are very close to doing that and while it is painful, we are building to it.

This rubbish infuriates me. I read most stuff on DL and i reckon there has been maybe one post suggest he MIGHT make AA. One.

It goes without saying i'm a huge Omac fan - but even i have never suggested he would be AA - or even a star for that matter.

Omac was beaten tonight. By a player in rare form who is arguably the second best one on one forward in the the AFL. A player who is in his prime and is probably 5kgs heavier and much stronger. It happens.

He has just played his 50th game of AFL football. He has more composure than almost all in our team. In th efrantic last 90 seconds he takes a key contested mark and pin points a 40 metre kick to our number 2 draft pick. Who proceeds to bomb it long rather than go back and ice the game.

OMac will be mainstay of our defence for another 10 years. I hope you (and STMJ) enjoy the journey

We threw away 4 points today, but I don’t think the sky is falling in, just yet. We didn’t lose because of the umpires, or because OMac had a bad game, or our backline was poor, or because of bad coaching. We lost because we didn’t take our chances in the forward line. We missed at least 6 very getable goals, and we fritted away at least 8 other forward entries that should have ended in goals. Fix this and we can defeat any team this year.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
