We're in it until we're not in it.  We have the ability to beat any team in front of us, with the exception of the Eagles in Perth, which is a huge ask of any side these days.

It might be a mirage to you, but it's pretty clear to me.  This loss cuts very, very deep, but we aren't done just yet.

No offence to your personally but I disagree. We lack composure and guts

ill plot remainder of season

crows loss

suns win

swans loss

eagles loss

gws loss

Leadership and coaching cost us in the last 2 minutes. No question we should have iced the game. But the contest was good.

In what way is it acceptable to lose with a 5 goal lead going into the last quarter. We have every right to vent.

Just ignore him. He is the most deluded apologist going around.

This is a devastating, infuriating and potentially season ending loss. We can be as mad as we want.

This is an awful post. Lewis hardly put a foot wrong tonight and if you think differently you have no idea about football.

Jones also had an OK game. If you expect every player to hit every target every time you are living in a delusional world.

We didn’t lose because of these 3. We lost because the intensity around the ball dropped off and Hawkins got on a roll. Young players being relied on in the middle lost it for us. They will learn and this group will become a premiership group.

I am terribly upset but chill out with the huge calls man.

I am simply [censored] gutted

I was very close very, very close to ripping it off the wall.

Neither O Mac nor Frost could do anything about the forward entry, and he was just having the ‘read of the play’ of his life

People giving up on the season ahead need their head read - we are right in to win every game

We can take it up to any team, any where, any time...

NOW CAN WE JUST WIN A GAME FOR ONCE FFS

Honestly we would have to thrash Geelong (home and away) for the rest of my natural life to make up for the way I feel tonight.

And they say the game isn’t entertaining

I'm sure I will find the positives in this eventually.

But we can't keep losing these games.

We can't lose from 29 points up 5 minutes into the last quarter, when our opponent has only scored 8 goals in the first three quarters.

We can't keep losing games by undoing three winning quarters of good work with one losing quarter of bad work.

We can't keep losing close games when we don't seem to know what we're doing to score a winning goal or hold onto a small lead.

We're going to miss the finals on the back of the two Geelong losses. More than the St Kilda or Port losses, these were two games we had no business losing whatsoever.

And to not be able to find something within us when they got that run of goals on, to stem the tide, slow it down, against a side who'd already stolen it from us once this year, with everything on the line and our own reputation/pride at stake, is just soul-crushing.

The 'whingers' actually care about the club and long for success.  Losses hurt.

You are the fakest supporter I have ever seen.  And you are by far the worst poster here.

They are so good at literally destroying our club. 186 wasn’t enough.

We have a lot of young talent but no composure.

Tonight we needed level heads on and off the field in the last 2 minutes, to find a spot in the top 4.

We are no longer a part of that conversation.

Unsure what everyone is ashamed of?

They had a brain fart for the last 20 seconds.

If you think they aren’t improving you are delusional.

I am gutted we lost but a lack of effort is inexcusable and you could not doubt that.

the journey is a long and winding road.

We blew it tonight, disappointed, still in the 8, move onto next week

Seriously!

Go drive the team bus home or better yet, tell my 10yr old son to stop crying.

feels like the Port game, had em, and choked, are we the Greg Norman of footy?

I feel like it will come down to the final game at the G.

Whilst the Shark failed in the majors he was a titan of the game winning plenty of tournements

besides the 96 masters Melt down and perhaps the Mize (?) chip in and pavin us open (?pga sorry can't be bothered googling) he was epic . 2 British opens is way way better than the mfc

Lost in defence said it would be on Wed. We don't have a big bodied defender and we allowed Hawkins space to lead into.  Any team who concedes 8 goals in a quarter doesn't deserve to win any games

You don’t know what you’re talking about, we lost because Hibberd and Lever are out and Goodwin didn’t move OMac earlier, plus the umps were [censored] pathetic as per usual

You're such an accumulator DZ!!!

Was incredibly predictable how the last qtr unfolded. I called the loss after the third goal but to destroy the souls of supporters again by allowing another Last 39 second goal? You have to be joking. Enough is enough. This transcends any player, and coaching move or any umpire.

Future looks bright. But tonight it’s undeniable how bad that loss was. It’s near impossible to lose with a 5 goal lead in the last quarter with no breeze. The key was composure not barrels late in the game. That game meant so much for this season and we choked.

Have we moved O. McDonald off Hawkins yet?

I thought Frost was really good when he went to him. If hed gone earlier might be different but he did show something Frosty,

I blame Tom McDonald for missing that sitter in the 1st quarter.

Same. That was really costly.

Apart from the result that was the best game of the season by a mile.

Hocking and Dill should leave the game alone.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
