Had a dream last night. We just scraped into the finals. We were playing Collingwood. Everything conspired against me to get to the game on time or to get a score update. I finally get to the game at half time. The scores were Melbourne 1.16.22 and Collingwood 12.5.77. Then I woke up. Proof this club messes with my brain.

Your dream sounds a bit like a Stephen King novel

We will win 13 games. Will will beat G.C, Syd and GWS. Finish 7th knock off the Hawks then beat the Swans again away, then knock off the Tigers in the Prelim then give West Coast a bath in the grand final. Predicted 2018 AFL Premiers the Mighty Dees❤️

How can I pre purchase a copy of the grand final DVD ?

I don't think 12 wins will be enough, I think we need 13. If we can manage two of those against Cats, Swans or Giants would be ideal. ??

I hope this prediction is better than your Casey 'predicted' line ups!

No, 12 wins won’t be enough. In fact, given certain results 13 may not be enough though unlike last year our excellent percentage should help us in that.

My prediction? 14 wins finish in the top four and play the Tiges in our first final for 12 years. We would be a real chance at the G. What we don’t want is to finish third and have to play West Coast in Perth!

Can’t see the Hawks winning 4 games with their injuries but they have some easy games so you never know.

12 wins and big % is a decent chance of getting us in but I’ll lose some sleep along the way!

Fancy hawks having an easy run home after all their recent success, gets more puzzling by the day this afl admin

Nope 14 will do it

Sorry, that's nonsense. With our percentage, if we win 13 we are in.

i agree, could make it with 12

Finals schminals....people forget we should have played finals last year and were in the hunt the year before before capitulating. The stepping stone is overdue, if we miss, it's a massive failure.

So if we miss it's a "massive failure" but if we make it then it's not worth anything?

If it's a massive failure to miss them, then it's significant to make them.

Their repeat games are against Essendon, Geelong, Sydney, St Kilda and Brisbane. That's three finalists from last year and St Kilda, who many thought was a finals contender this year. It might not have turned out that way but it's hardly "puzzling", they were given repeat games against sides who you would have thought would be strong this year.

They also played a significant number of good sides early, which opens up the draw.

Meanwhile if you're complaining about our run home, just bear in mind we've only played 4 games all year against sides currently in the top 8. All of our finals competitors have played more than that.

14 you're in

13... you're playing rnd 23 Lotto ( again )

Have done the predictor this morning and with GWS' recent form, 13 and % will now do it. One team with 13 may miss out. 14 gets you in and a sneaky chance of top 4

Is this only if Keilty replaces Oscar Mcdonald?

12 enough we won't win 12, can't beat the crows in Adelaide, can't beat the west coast in Perth can't beat Sydney can't beat anyone good at the MCG can only see a win vs gold coast, only 11 wins, can see as going the same way next year as saints this year this club will never play finals again. sorry the only  consistent players we have are  gawn and Oliver and that is it and also t-mac, can't make finals with only 3 week in week out solid players.

Bad Medicine Angry ?

you need to adjust the dosage

I suspect we will bounce back against the crows and beat the suns. And I’m backing us to beat the swans as well. The last two rounds we are a chance as well. Season is a long way from over for us. But it won’t be easy

We will play finals with 12 wins if the following happens due to our excellent percentage. None of these results are outrageous either:

ADELAIDE (12 wins):

Melbourne  W

Port   L

GWS  L

North  W

Carlt  W

ESSENDON (12 wins)

Sydney  W

Hawks  W

St Kilda  W

Richmond  L

Port   L

HAWTHORN (12  wins)

Freo  W

Essendon  L

Geelong   L

St Kilda  W

Sydney   L

NORTH MELB (12 Wins)

West Coast  L

Brisbane   W

WB  W

Adelaide  L

St Kilda  W

12, no way.  I see no plausible way that 12 will be enough .... even taking into account upsets.

13 and a great % will do it.    Or in the case of GWS, 12 and a half wins maybe might get then 8th spot .

13 needed and I think it beyond this playing and coaching group! 3 More wins with

Adelaide, ( loss) GCS ( Win) Swans (probable loss) Buddy will tear us a new one WC ( loss) and GWS (Probable loss)

so possibly 2 wins I can see us missing out yet again.

Losses to Geelong X 2 And Saints coming back to bite BIG TIME!

about how I read it also

Crows finding form..and we get the wobbles...Not a good time to have to play in Pie Floater'sville

Suns...should be a win...but even they will put up a fight..I say...a win...not resounding but we get the chocolates

Swans...very big danger game...i fully expect them  to start getting back on track before finals

West Coast...perth...meh !!!!

and Danger Will Robinson come Giants.

if we can manage a win agaisnt the crows we might get a roll on....fail....and we're rolling the other way.

Geez we make it bloody hard on ourselves...this could have all been locked away...ages ago...but no...we're Melbourne

Sydney are vulnerable at the moment. They have Essendon this week at Etihad, then Collingwood at home. If they lose both, and we lose to Adelaide but beat GCS then it makes the Sydney game vital. Win that, and we go a game plus sizeable percentage ahead of them. All of the chasing pack, Hawthorn, Essendon, Adelaide, Port, play each other over the final rounds. I can't see any of them winning more than 13, more likely they will be on 12. Win against Adelaide this week, and I reckon we are almost there!

Melbourne v Sydney ought to be an absolute cracker.

Two Yo-Yo teams fighting it out for the Russell Cup !!

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
