Kennedy-Harris has 7 or 8 tackles I think which is good but didn’t do much else imo.

Given his vfl form I was expecting more

Not sure if he keeps his spot next week.

Game high 9 tackles. A nervous start but aaa good on the second half. Will play next week.

Good second half. The cream rose to the top.

First half some of our battlers were really exposed. Hannan, JKH, Frost, etc. Hibberd not half the player he was last year. Lewis kept falling over. Lost too many one-on-ones. Atrocious kicking at times.

I'm still not sure about this side!

I've had Gus in my supercoach for over 2 months. This is just what he does now. Massively underrated player. He will start getting props off the media after tonight - but he has been in great form for a while now. His kicking appeared to have improved a bit tonight which is good

Content with that, without being excited. Gee the Dogs waved the white flag in that third q - great to see us skewer them with it all the same.

A Grade games from Gawn and Oliver. Outstanding. Brayshaw a B+ - skill errors still too frequent to classify him in the top bracket yet, but getting there. Knows how to find the ball!

I think we can win down in Geelong. If we do, we are most definitely back in business.

I haven't seen the game and only listened to snippets here and there after being out all day.

But I'm very, very content with the result.  It's been an important 48 hours for our finals aspirations, and with the Cats and Hawks dropping winnable games, it was very pleasing to see us win a game we should be winning, and doing it to the tune of 8 and a bit goals.  Our percentage is now above 130 and we're in fifth.  Right now I can't ask for much more than that.

Sounds like we got good efforts across the board from pretty much all 22 players today.  Maxy dominated, our midfield seemed to get better as the game wore on and it seems like we were much more efficient going inside 50 which is good to see.  Obviously a few of our issues cropped up from what I can gather, but it sounds like we were on top for most of the day.

Next week is the big one and I can't wait to see how we go.

Hopefully Viney makes a speedy recovery as well.

Next week will be the acid test.

If we give a good account of ourselves (not even necessarily win), then I reckon we are on our way to September. We stink the joint up and we are a 40/60 proposition at best.

The Doggies, like Freo, are playing a skeleton team right now. No Bont or Libba are really testing them. However, you can only play the opposition in front of you, and I was impressed after half time.

No, lets go out and give it to these pretenders. Its time to announce ourselves. Geelong have just as many flat spots/games as we do. As Pro Dee says the only top side is Richmond. Geelong and Sydney are on the wane, this is our time go to Geelong and put them to the sword, they have their big names but the rest are just average. Give them hell Demons.

Win next week and we can start talking about whether we can get to the 15 games needed for top 4 instead of whether we can scrape the 13 for finals. The worst part is there would still be a chance we'd not scrape the 13!

Its amazing how stats give no indication of a game at times. If I had been told before the game that we would win only one stat, (hit outs) I would be expecting a  heavy loss rather than a big win. They do lie at times. Keep it going Demons!!!!!

That was a hard game to watch in first half, dogs only good for a half, yes they will say we have got beaten anyone yet, but 2 of those sides we beat both have beaten the cats, great to see the hawks get smashed twice by a half good team.

Do yourself a favor. If you watch the replay, save time and stress and watch the 2nd half only.

How good was Gawn to Gus from the centre bounce in the third quarter. And all hail Clarry, king of the wormburners!

Browny on Fox made a very good point in that when we go is50 we need to make more of our opportunities if we are going to compete against the top teams and he said it when we stuffed certain goals up which I think was in the last quarter.

Strange stats indeed. We did have more kicks despite lower poss.

We were clinical in the second half.  And we didn't run out of legs which is something as bulldogs play a fast game.

The end to end play that Oliver had three possessions in the chain that ended in a Petracca goal was the play of the day.

It was good to see that we stopped competing with ourselves on the ground and in the air especially i50.

Our forward lead patterns and movement were the best I've seen us play.  For the record, Jesse had no trouble at all kicking a goal from outside 50!

And, we scored 8 goals from 10 inside 50's in the 3rd.  One for the record books!

I got a real chuckle from Gus' 'accidental' DOB (not paid by Razor) when they had a laugh and a high five!

Edit:  Corrected OOBF to DOB

Funny that cos dogs had more entries and we are averaging over a 100 points a game. (second highest)

Why?  That seems like a strange thing to focus on after an 8 goal win.

I know it was a terrible time for a game neither afternoon nor night and freezing as well. But two Melbourne based teams and only 30 000 in attendance.

Might just be that Dees supports don't yet believe.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
