Should have been a 100+ point win easily.

Ill take the 4 points and the % boost though.

Needed someone to stand up and show the way. It was Oliver.

It was ugly, it was tough to watch and the skills in the conditions were not flash.  But in the end we rock and rolled them by 9 goals and, had we said we would win by that margin earlier today, everyone would have taken it.

There were some real positives tonight.  Petracca returned to form in a big way which was great to see.  Did some really classy things but he also worked his backside off around the ball on the defensive end.  Had 5 tackles to go with 28 possessions (just needed to kick his goals!) and that's excellent.  Now he needs to keep it up.  Clarry and Gawn are stars, Salem and Harmes continues to improve and Gus is having a terrific year.  Bayley Fritsch looked a cut above in the conditions with his clean hands and silky skills.

I thought the changes we made worked really well.  Stretch did some good things and used the ball well.  Jeffy, while not having a huge impact, gave us some pressure and zip at the fall of the ball and seeing him lay 6 tackles was really good.  He will only get better from that.  Frosty was excellent down back, albeit against average opponents, while I thought Spargo worked himself into the game.  It's good to see Goodwin make the right changes and it showed tonight.

Obviously, we still need to work on how we use the ball going forward.  We look terrific when we lower our eyes and have space for the forwards to lead into.  We still bomb it far too much, although we were still able to have 37 shots on goal.  Turn that into, say, 23.13 and we have smashed them off the peninsula.  Our defence was better tonight as well as we stifled their run.  I was a little worried their outside runners could make us pay, but we were far more organised and it showed.

Let's take the win and see it as a way to get our season back on track.  It was also good to add more to our percentage which is still the second best in the competition.  Yes, this was easy opposition but after last week we need to ensure we get these wins, and we did that tonight.  It's nice to be back on the winners list, even if it was a little ugly at times.

Thank god we won.

My concern apart from our kicking for goal is that the players look rooted.

I am not holding out much hope for a positive result next week unfortunately.

The sooner we get rid of this Darwin game the better.

Innacurate but a great win. Listening to the players interview afterwards the ball was as slippery as a wet game so you can excuse some of the misses but still bad. Otherwise it was an awesome response from a poor month.

We had lost the last three. Very rare for a side to have it all go right after that. It was a matter of getting back to winning ways.

Heads must roll for the kicking

good win but, now time some some froffies out on the town!! ???

Okay difficult conditions but we still over do the handball.

The letdown of all the missed goals made it feel frustrating, but otherwise that was an absolute drubbing. It was also greasy - the boys post match compare it to wet weather footy.

It’s hard to say given it’s Freo, but hopefully we’re back.

I think it's something we don't give enough credit for.  It's not easy playing up there at night and the ball is really hard to control.  Obviously it would have been nice if we had jagged a few more, but as you say, a 9 goal win up there is nothing to sneeze at.

As I am sure many will say let's temper any enthusiasm until after the Bulldogs game.

We played the 13th team without their two best players in deplorable conditions that will almost certainly impact upon us next week.

Did we learn much... I'll let others be the judge

Thought Frost did well in his return.

Frost was very solid, probably should have been in weeks ago.

Footscray played half a game tonight. Their 2nd half was awful

If that had been the outcome in a torrential downpour at the ‘G, we would be stoked. I’m content.

I have a slightly sick feeling in my stomach still though that I don’t think is going to subside until we get a few more solid wins on the board. Have I caught MFCSS?

Add Billy to that. Good to see him cut through with some speed and move the ball forward. All the changes played their part.

Freo tonight probably the weakest most disorganised opposition ever to face our club. Thank Christ. Amen.

Liked Brayshaws game tonight.

We should sign him up ASAP.

After years of lazy players at Melbourne, it's great to watch Bayley Fritsch who never gives up.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.

  • CASEY: Collingwood

It was freezing cold at Mission Whitten Stadium where only the brave came out in the rain to watch a game that turned out to be as miserable as the weather.
The Casey Demons secured their third consecutive victory, earning the four premiership points and credit for defeating a highly regarded Collingwood side, but achieved little else. Apart perhaps from setting the scene for Monday’s big game at the MCG and the Ice Challenge that precedes it.
Neither team showcased significant skill in the bleak and greasy conditions, at a location that was far from either’s home territory. Even the field umpires forgot where they were and experienced a challenging evening, but no further comment is necessary.
